Mick Fitzgerald and Hayley Turner being employed as "experts" ???? Expert at what ? And why is Plunkett in there ?
|
|
By:
Pleased Brough Scott is on board. That at least is a nod to the fans of the sport. The rest are ok but I wouldn't call them experts. The overall team is a fairly mixed bag. I like Matt Chapman, Richard Hoiles and Brough Scott with Jason, Luke and Brian also being alright. As for Frankie I'd say racing owes him more than anyone else for keeping it in the wider publics conciousness so him being there is fair enough. Not sure what Victoria Pendleton and Haley Turner add and they are there for the non racing fans......the Ant and Dec brigade.
Could have been better but I'm hopeful. |

they sayed they didnt want to take too much associated with the old C4 production [Luck, Holt] but the bits they had taken are the worse elements from it [Fitzy, Plunkett]

ITV....The channel watched by morons.....best of luck to any serious racing
afficionado....you will need it, i'm out. |

By:
Hayley Turner hasn't got a prayer based on what she has "contributed" to ATR and will probably be back riding horses round Chelmsford before the season is out.
|
|
By:
Jeez nightmare, are they serious? experts... Chapman, Harvey, Fitz, Persad, experts in self promotion. The cheapest they can get?
If RUK have any sense they go back to Luck and bring in Down and Holt and I will never go near ITV. |

Seems to be an exercise in 'box ticking' to ensure quotas are filled to get a 'diverse' team.
Mick Fitzgerald and Hayley Turner in particular are laughable appointments. |

ITV confirms broadcasting line-up
BY LEE MOTTERSHEAD 7:15AM 17 OCT 2016 ITV's director of sport has predicted the network's racing viewers will enjoy coverage enhanced by a team boasting "quality, expertise, insight and personality" as the sport's new mainstream television home confirmed its on-screen line-up. As previously revealed in the Racing Post, Richard Hoiles will take over from Simon Holt as the voice of racing after being appointed lead commentator, while Racing UK's Oli Bell gets a promotion to free-to-air television with the job of hosting ITV4's new Saturday morning magazine programme before contributing to the afternoon output. Like Holt, Nick Luck, the regular frontman for Channel 4 Racing, will not be making the switch on January 1. Sir Anthony McCoy is another not to have been named as an ITV acquisition, while on Saturday at Ascot Clare Balding bowed out from racing presenting after more than two decades as the sport's principal face for the BBC and Channel 4. ITV will, however, be employing a number of individuals currently attached to the sport's soon-to-be ex-broadcaster, with Mick Fitzgerald, in particular, set to be prominent throughout the year. Alice Plunkett, whose main duties will be in the jumps season, and Rishi Persad also join Hoiles in the move to an organisation that handed the last of its previous racing rights to Channel 4 in 1985. Also confirmed for the ITV team are Hayley Turner, Jason Weaver, Luke Harvey, Brian Gleeson and Sally Ann Grassick, while among new signings revealed was Frankie Dettori, who will be a contributor when his riding commitments permit. Victoria Pendleton is due to make appearances, while ITV weather presenter Lucy Verasamy will provide reports on racing programmes. In a link to ITV's racing past, former anchor Brough Scott will be a frequent guest. ITV had already unveiled Ed Chamberlin as its main racing presenter, Flat season co-host Francesca Cumani and betting reporter Matt Chapman. A wonderful sport ITV Sport chief Niall Sloane said: "We believe this line-up, which draws on a range of people from within racing and beyond, will enrich our coverage with the quality, expertise, insight and personality to bring home to viewers the full enjoyment and appreciation of this wonderful sport." Hoiles, selected for the most prized commentary role in British racing after BBC Radio 5 live's John Hunt opted to remain with the corporation, said: "It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the ITV team and have the privilege of calling the superb array of big races we will be covering next year. "Racing is a unique sport that offers beauty and drama in abundance and hopefully we can really bring that to life for the viewers, whether they be ardent fans or new to the sport." Bell said: "I'm hugely excited about this opportunity and really looking forward to fronting the Saturday morning magazine show. I'mpassionate about the sport and will look forward to the afternoon's action every bit as much as the viewers at home. "I can't wait to kick on now and work closely with the excellent team ITV has assembled both on-screen and behind the camera." The number of days on which that team will be appearing on the main ITV channel increased again yesterday. Last month ITV, which is set to show nearly 100 days racing a year, revealed it had switched six of those days from ITV4, taking the ITV roster from 34 to 40. It has now further boosted the total to 41 following the decision to upgrade Newcastle's Northumberland Plate fixture. ITV is believed to have paid in the region of £30 million for a four-year exclusive deal from 2017 to 2020. It hopes to recoup much of that in year one through programme sponsorship and bookmaker commercials, which the broadcaster will fight hard to defend if the government, as expected, considers banning such advertising before 9pm. |

whoever picked that lot must have been pi..ed at the time

|
By:
Hoiles
Bell Fitz Plunkett Persad Turner Weaver Harvey Gleeson Grassick Dettori Pendleton Verasamy Chamberlin Cumani Chapman Scott So just the 17 salaries to pay then, for a total of 41 afternoons when anyone will be watching. Presumably they can all stay at home for the 50-odd days on ITV4, when they might as well just show a test card for all the audience they'll get. I don't think that even horse racing has ever seen a gravy train this long. Particularly ironic at a time when it looks as though the locomotive (bookmaker adverts) is going to be shunted into the museum where it belongs. |
|
By:
I can remember when Peter O'Sullivan and Clive Graham handled the BBC coverage on their own.
ITV had 4 or 5 and I considered them overstaffed. Bad though Fitz is Harvey is worse btw. |
|
By:
This just proves doesn't it that the powers that be in this industry take absolutely NO NOTICE WHATSOEVER of the opinions on this forum (call me naive, but I though they might have done on occasions) otherwise they wouldn't be employing certain 'presenters' for this ITV attempt at next year's TV racing coverage.
We might as well all pack up and give up posting our opinions on here. |
|
By:
As long as the actual racing action is shown in high quality with decent commentary I don't give two hoots about all the between race fluff and nonsense.
Brough Scott is a very fine journalist but has never really been suited to live TV - Alistair Down is/was much better imo. |
|
By:
So just the 17 salaries to pay then
Make that 18, you forgot Johnson who is the 2nd commentator. I hope Ed's mates at Sky football have left a key out for him because ITV racing will be a disaster. |

give it a chance that's the problem to downbeat! new faces is always good and some you're only going to see half a year am looking forward to it

They should have brought World of Sport back.

thought it was a creepy clown list

By:
But we need to know who is responsible for making these selections in advance,as when the new program self-implodes in a year or so,these criminals need to be exposed so that they are never invited to partake in any other horseracing enterprises.
Please someone name and shame these clearly incompetent individuals as soon as possible, and get Jeremy Paxman to interrogate each to justify the reasons for each appointment. Surely Mike Dillon is not the only culprit here, who are his other co-conspirators. |

Lucy Verasamy is the only good thing in that line up (nap)

i thought yifter was getting a gigg
read 2 things in the papers this week that made me pish with laughter fitzy does homework before his interviews and he likes to take a few days off a week to improve his performance, LOL was suprised to read in richards hughes column bigging up balding and fitzy, that he loved getting interviewed by balding because she,d tell him the questions beforehand so he could get his replys ready and new he wasnt going to get hit with a grenade live on air, which obviously shows why her interviews were full of platitudes and ego massaging and completely pointless |

Fitzgerald/Turner/Harvey. A complete joke

Hard to understand why ITV have gone for such a big team, safety in numbers or something (?) A couple of names like Pendleton and Dettori probably useful to try and draw in a wider audience. Turner and Plunkett would have left them out, so overstaffed anyway, and sure viewers would like to see the same regular faces. Or maybe they are planning a smaller team in the future, see what works and what doesn't. It started so well with Ed Chamberlin and Francesca Cumani, betting reporter Matt Chapman was also a good choice. Anyway, give it a chance....... |

The extraordinary thing about the UK racing media is that even with 17 or 18 names on that list, there's probably at least twice as many again out there seething that they're NOT on it.
How did UK racing ever get itself into a situation where it haemorrhages so much money to so many talentless personalities? |
