1st Bondi Beach (IRE) 7/1 3-9-5 A P O'BrienSeamie Heffernan
On toes beforehand, chased leaders, closer in 2nd after 2f, 5th 4f out, improved into 2nd 3f out, no impression on leader entering final furlong, kept on well under hands and heels inside final furlong to lead final stride, not extended (op 6/1)
2nd short-head Bantry Bay (IRE) 10/11F 3-9-5 A P O'Brien Joseph O'Brien
Attempted to make all, narrow advantage halfway, still going well and extended advantage into straight, ridden 1 1/2f out, reduced advantage under pressure well inside final furlong and headed final stride (op Evs tchd 11/10)
the fav weakened badly as evident by how the 3rd and 4th horses closed 'rapidly' on it too after looking out with the washing,
Heffernan couldn't do anything else other than win 'cosily' as if he'd taken a pull, he'd have been handed a huge ban etc,
just chalk it as unlucky in this episode

[n]An intriguing maiden[/b] but the market got it wrong as the odds-on favourite was denied by his lesser fancied stablemate in somewhat strange fashion.
BONDI BEACH won despite his rider being at pains not to give him a hard race. For much of the home straight it looked as thought he was going to be a most eyecatching runner-up but he belatedly managed to get by the runner-up in the final stride. Seldom has such a narrow victory been so apparently comfortable. It looked as though the winner was far superior to the runner-up to the naked eye. He ought to improve plenty for the experience too and could be above-average.
Bantry Bay was all the rage to make a winning debut and, up until a furlong out, it looked like he would do so. However, he was almost certainly flattered by the margin of defeat.

runner-up did weaken timeless. 3rd and 4th were going nowhere and they started closing in. you've hit the nail on the head though as the very fact it was emptying out so quickly put the jockey on the eventual winner in a very difficult position ...

Wrote this on another thread, but presumably the horse does not sparkle in his work at home. SH did his best to lose today as well, but accidentally on this occasion
