Surely the product you go in the shop for is the markets, the prices, the ability to back and lay, not a specific version of the interface?
(caveat: I'm on record as saying I think the old site is ugly as sin, and I'm a big fan of the additional functionality in the new site for Racing). |

longridge - You always come on these threads DEFENDING the NEW site. -
- as you have on the General Betting Thread. You say that you like the NEW Site - and DISLIKE the OLD site - and want to see it go - as you post (on General Betting) ... longbridge • April 30, 2015 4:24 PM BST .... Personally I think it's ugly as sin and the sooner it's drowned in a bucket the better. ------------- Might I suggest that you are not a FULL ON HORSE RACING punter. You sound like the type who is happy to place just One leisurely bet half an hour before a race - rather than most of us - where time is of the essence CLOSE to the race 'Off' time. We are, therefore, talking FUNCTIONALITY here - and THAT is where the NEW Site FAILS - with bets being SLOWLY Processed - and, often then, DUPLICATED because people think that they have not been matched. As also posted on the General Betting thread - AND elsewhere for AGES gone by ... The NEW Site can quite often, dangerously, turn a bet of say, £10.5 into £105 - due to the S L O W processing. There will be RIOTS on here - if that occurs regularly to many, many, users. |

@onlooker
Well, these debates are less fun if they're one-sided, aren't they? Especially since some (not you, I hasten to add) have no greater analysis of their dislike than "it's sh*t, I don't like it, I won't use it" which is hardly illuminating. And yes I like it. And no, I'm not a "full on horseracing punter" - I have a few bets a day, usually not at the last moment, that's fair. As you say the comments about slow bets and stakes being mistaken have been posted on here for "AGES gone by" - but the betslip on the new site has recently changed (first for Racing, then for Football and today it now seems for all sports) and with that betslip I haven't seen those issues. I do think Betfair made a mistake at least once, maybe twice, by saying the new site was ready to replace the old when it had the issues you mention and many others. That meant a lot of people on here went over to the new, had a look, rightly concluded it wasn't ready for use and now are loathe to try again. |

i will be off to daq as well...i detest the new site...hard work.

One silly anomaly is that on a number of races there is an extra place available in place only markets on the new site. Yet on races where this is not available and there is a non runner reducing the field to 7 the places reduce to 2. I simply find the new site an awful mess.

"Yet on races where this is not available and there is a non runner reducing the field to 7 the places reduce to 2"
I've only seen that where the NR happened when before BF opened the market (so it only eve had 7 runners) and it's the same Place market on the old and the new site anyway - or do you see something different? |
By:
I can assure you that where a horse has come out earlier in the day the new site will have 2 places and I have switched to the old site and 3 places are available.
By:
For example the 1710 at Sedgefield has 2 places on the new site and 3 on the old site.

1710 Sedgfield New Site - 3 Places

I never look at the Sportsbook. Can you not see the example I have given?

I'm not going to try to explain any more about the new site sparrow, I just get accused of working for Betfair
if you cannot see the equivalent place market on the new site, then there is no hope for you I'm afraid |
By:
Out of interest i've just looked at the 17.10 newsite and it's 3 places...there's also a 2 place market though
By:
Seriously I fail to see why this SHOULD be an issue, why not keep both sites in perpetuity, why is this scenario such a problem

By:
So, on the new site, the 1710 at Sedgfield has a "Place" market, which is the one you also see on the old site, which has 3 places, and is on the link I posted.
And the link you have sent is the additional place market paying 2 places that Betfair have created on the new site only. Sorry, I'm struggling to see your point. The only 'anomaly' I can see is that usually BF create the extra place market to pay more places rather than fewer, but a 4 TBP market on a race already down to 5 runners isn't going to be a lot of fun. Apologies if I'm missing something. |
By:
I can only see 2 places on the new site and I have also tried the link longbridge supplied.
By:
I now see what you mean and I was not aware that 2 different place markets were available on the new site. My apologies.

By:
New site is slow, sticky, unresponsive, error-prone, illegible and epileptic.
It's a major task to line up a selection's name with its odds amid the brightly coloured blank spaces, flashing lights and casino adverts. Doing that several thousand times a day will be physically impossible amid the raging headaches the site induces. |
By:
longridge - Thank you for your reply - Both fair and honest.

Don't worry chaps Matchbook will have Horse Racing very soon I am reliably informed at 1-2% comm for all then then the incompetent fools can do all they want to try and drive people from their supposed Core Exchange Product to their more profitable Sportsbook and Casino games. The Exchange customer is a second class citizen as far as they are concerned.

The problem for Betfair management is it costs more to maintain two versions of the site, in terms of both hassle and disposable wage slaves.
By:
Exactly. So the answer is to dump the new version of the site, along with the disposable wage slaves who built it.

I'm scared of the new site. If you input a stake on one page and navigate to another page without cancelling and input a stake and place a bet on the 2nd page - it place both bets! Cost me £300 to find that out.
By:
And another time I placed one bet and it duplicated the bet and placed it about 50 times. Luckily I say this happen and was able to cancel.

By:
When I used it found about 10 such bugs in the space of 1 or 2 days. Never went back since.
By:
Also another big problem if any of you tw@ts from betfair are reading - it showed incorrect profit and loss on the cricket runs line and football daily goals.
By:
YOMOMMA - go back and do some more tests. Crazy as this sounds, things change.
By:
why cant betfair see the new
site not as good as the old is it change for change sake or to some people in jobs that they are not very good at |
By:
What swift-tuttle said - the behaviour with carrying bets between markets (which was there so you could build Sportsbook multiples on the Exchange betslip, of all things) has gone, and the duplicate bet bug was ages ago.

Like the majority here - I detest the new site and unless there is some major changes I really worry about my future on BF when the classic site is pulled. I dont use an API - I've mucked about a few times on gruss, but I was was nt as comfortable on it than the normal site layout.
My biggest gripe on the new layout is the size of the market view - (on both my PC and Laptop which have different screen sizes) The 3 boxes (lay/back) are virtually half the size of the old - and the amount of white space between the name of the selection to the boxes is ridicolous. Then when inputting a bet - the "What if" figure makes the boxes toggle up to fit the figures under the selection name. Try doing that inrunning of a 5f sprint - the screen bouncing up and down as u fire a few bets in and out. The market view needs to get sorted to something very similar to the old - and giving people an option to get rid of the junk on the right hand side. Also the timeform option. Every time I login I have to untick it - Why cant it just accept I dont want it, its just more junk that slows down the site when moving around between the markets. From yesterday Ive noticed on the class site - when you click on my account you now get an extra page which is alot more confusing than the previous. So if you want to see you P/l for the day - you know have to go through an extra page to get to the same place. How does anyone who works in management level see this as progress - everything is slower and less consumer friendly. I understand they need to close the old site down - but changes need to be done before this happens - and fast! |
By:
@wicklow
I make you right on the Timeform thing; I hadn't noticed as I like/use it so I have it on all the time, but just tried switching it off and it won't stay off. Not sure what you mean by 'the junk on the right hand hand side' - I only have the betslip there? Just remembered - I switched off minigames ages ago, maybe that's what you mean? Display Options (wheel icon above betslip), un-tick "Show Games Modules" |
By:
Cheers longbridge - that got rid of the games.
The other big problem which I just remembered. Say you click on lay all, say for a 5 or 10 runner race lets say. And try and type in say a speccific odd on the field, like 1.5 and say stake 20. I used to do this in lightning speed time on the classic (by pressing tab button) - but on the new, every 3rd or 4th, it doesnt type in correctly - instead of 1.5, it will be 15 or boxes come up blank as pure typos. Trying doing that longbridge and see if you have similar problems. cheers |
