Come racing, the great Geoff Banks tell us. And I would, Geoff, if bookmakers such as your good self actually provided better prices than those which I can obtain from the comfort of my own living room.
Geoff, I refer you to last Tuesday and Friday at Cheltenham. I visited your pitch prior to every race bar two. On almost every occasion your prices on my fancies - some favourites, some outsiders - were inferior to those at a certain High Street bookie, who had a stand just a few metres away from you. And unlike you, they offered plenty of concessions, particularly with offers to pay out on an extra place in certain races. As a result of which it was a no-brainer as to who took my hard-earned cash.
It's all well and good spouting about High St bookies offering false money-back offers, as I notice you have done during the Festival via Twitter, but what do you and other independents offer, Geoff, to entice ordinary folk like me to bet with you?
I can actually answer that, as I notice you offer refunds on, say, 2-2 draws in football matches - which is just laughable. But fair play to you, at least you add five per cent to every deposit on your (terrible to browse) website.
Instead of spouting your rubbish on Channel Four's Morning Line and believing you are some sort of Jeremy Paxman for rubbing up Ruby Walsh the wrong way - and that's for another post on another day - why not take on the High St firms by beating their prices? Isn't that what your old man did, offering something different?
Once I've paid for transport, entry to a racecourse and food and booze, I want some value. Sadly, I may as well stick with betting exchanges and punting at home.
I took the opportunity of opening an account with you weeks before the Festival after I had been quoted a price for a certain horse I fancied.
When I opened the account, one of your footmen then offered me a shorter price than the one I had been quoted just hours previously! And I would be amazed if anyone had backed that same horse with you as an explanation for the price drop.
Oh, and great job by hiring the ex-Page 3 model to work on your pitch at Cheltenham.
She accidentally put an extra £20 on my stake on the one bet I did place with you, an 8-1 winner.
Finally, no doubt I won't be able to get a decent bet on at the same High St bookie that was near Banks's pitch until Aintree!
Geoff, sorry I haven't replied any sooner but I've been busy all day.
Having said that, I guess the evening is the best time to contact you because you spend most of your nights at home with just your best pal as company ..... What's her name? Champagne or Chardonnay?
I did a google search on your father, the 'legend', John Banks.
It appears he was warned off racecourses for three years. Really? What happened? Do let us know, the floor is yours......
I hope he wasn't a naughty boy.
Tell you what I'll do....next time you get your roots done, I'll pay for them. Actually, I've changed my mind.
Unlike your father, there's very little of note which comes up when one googles Geoff Banks. You are a very average bookmaker and, yes, your prices are rubbish.

NGU - an extra £20 on his stake of an 8/1 winner is a return of £180, not an extra £20 on his return.
ThePin - are you going to actually pay it back, seeing as it will now be going to charity?

What kind of pathetic creature does that in order to pursue a vendetta against a former employer (or whatever else sparked the OP's sense of grievance)? This forum does attract some wierdos but the malicious communications of the OP take the biscuit.

Rydal 100% agree - if it indeed gets personal like this instance, the OP should put his actual name up on here rather than hiding himself. It's 1.001 that Banks knows him and that's probably value!

I`m not a race-goer, nor do I watch Morning Line, so I`ve no knowledge of Mr Banks. No matter, I just felt compelled to add my voice to the `pin is well out of order` camp. He`s clearly lost this battle but, even if he was winning, there`s no morality in winning unfair fights, such as this one, with anonymity on one side. Quite despicable, in fact.

In my experience- most bookmakers and punters battle each other with honour and a sense of fair play. I battled for standard place terms on racetracks in the face of stiff opposition from a few on course traders who felt they should be able to trade in any way they pleased. Many sensible firms supported the move - in favour of punters I now want bookies to offer a lay to lose minimum of £100 on any price or offer - that's in cash. Many will have no issue with this - I think the on course should lead the off track bookies and force change
I think many punters and traders on here still hold a sense of fair play.
Not this Pin character. You are Sir, the worst type of low life. You smear an honest girl doing her best to serve you quickly with your allegations, probably untrue, and you appear proud of yourself for stealing £180 - and you think people on here should support you?
I am Geoff Banks. Let's see you return the money and we'll pop it to cancer research - do something useful with your miserable life rather than hang about my joint smiling and acting all friendly with me and my staff and then coming on here anonymously with your filth

'I am Geoff Banks'. Blimey, someone has a huge ego. Anyone who refers to themselves in the third person has severe issues. I knew you'd take the bait and return here. You can't help yourself. And thanks for explaining what your old man got up to. No doubt you severely reprimanded him. I will see you at Aintree, G. Hopefully, the model will be employed again.i will wear a rose so you can shake my hand. As for being the worst type of lowlife, look in the mirror. Look at your dad.

Does anyone remember the 'wrestling' that used to be on ITV sport in the 70s and 80s? There was a comedy character called Kendo Nagasaki who everybody wanted to see unmasked.

It may be worth getting your solicitor to speak to Betfair about this. Taken together, the quantity and content of the posts, along with the the implied threat to stalk your staff at a future event, may constitute a case for action (perhaps under the Malicious Communications Act?). If the individual has form in this area already (and this type rarely stops at one target), it will improve the prospects of action. Good luck.

For regular verbs, it's normal to add ED to form its past participle. Unfortunately for irregular verbs there are no rules and it is just a matter of practice.

I think the time has come with untennable 'offers' and 'price boost' cultures to ask big betting to do what small betting takes for granted. To lay every customer a bet to lose just £100 £100 is the value of a spin on a FOBT. It's a reasonable figure to lay a customer. Although most people on here know I accept more risk from my customers- or I get rid of. In other words if I don't feel I should lay a particular customer I will politely desist from doing business with him/her - rather than offer a 30p bet
If all firms knew they would have to lay everyone £100 in real money - not free bets - they would perhaps take a different view on some offers or prices. i.e Sprintre Sacre 1/3 in a race- we go evens - every customer should be able to back that offer to £100. Would you make the offer then? Or would you perhaps go 1/2?
We have to introduce a bit of common sense to the market and fair play.

geoff , it shows you what a sorry state betting is in if you would like to see every bookmaker guarantee a measly £100 payout , £100
should be £500 at the very least
i don't think you can equate it to what happens on an fobt either . they are 2 separate forms of betting . one of which the bookmakers always wins in the long run no matter who plays , the other not quite so much in the bookmakers favour , hence the refusal of bets from certain players/punters

I did mean lay to lose £100. I fully appreciate this is lower than many would hope - but it has to take into consideration such as an even money chance offer- even the likes of paddy power would reconsider some of their 'money back ' schemes if it were to cost them real cash

As for overrounds and so forth, fine I totally accept an average of 2% is about what I work to. There are two principle reasons for this- anf this isn't aimed at the idiot who started this thread because if I announced I bet overbroke all the time- he would find fault.
I understand book percentages and how to convert prices so that you can total up and see how much the overround is. But I've seen a few comments along the lines of ' I bet to 2% a runner ... ' which I don't completely understand
does this mean that for a 10 runner race your prices would add up to a 120% book, 9 runner race - 118% book etc
or am I on the wrong track?

There is paying for inside information and paying for inside information...
If by paying for inside information you actively "stop" a horse that may be different than someone saying that this horse will not be at its best today..
I would doubt however in these days of automated trading that any alleged UK "Bookmakers" have anyone that would even know what a horse even looked like..
They are just numbers and ban anyone that does not meet the required losing percentage...
