Anyone got any links to what the losing trainer said after the race ?
Cant find anything on SL or RP. |
By:
Tabor was not "best pleased" to put it mildly.
However, the "Team" are far too clever to make public criticism of a truly awful ride. I expect JOB(who is clearly struggling with his weight) to be replaced at the end of the Season. |
By:
either way win or lose he wasnt going to win in the style of an all time great and the defeat means obrien cant kid the balls of people pretending the horse is a superstar, still hasnt had 1 performance that shoots the lights out

Swap the riders and Australia wins by a length or two. And you would be looking at a horse close to the credentials of Sea The Stars.
And before the `Sea The Stars would beat Australia out of sight` comments arrive, lets just remember that Trading Leather, Mukhadram and Al Kazeem would be 5/6/7L behind but all knocking on just around the 118 mark. Sea The Stars was beating the likes of Rip Van Winkle, Mastercraftsman, Fame and Glory. Kingston Hill looks like a Fame And Glory type to me, so i think the form of Australia is still close to Sea The Stars at the same stage in their careers if we believe JOB cost Australia at least 2L in the Irish. |

By:
If Australia trounces the Arc field like Sea The Stars did then they can be mentioned in the same breath.
By:
A_T
You mean show similar form as beating Youmzain, Cavalryman, Conduit by a couple of lengths? Yes he was in a pocket and won well, but i would fancy Australia to beat those horses in similar fashion. |

It was a good post Thunder

STS was a great going into the Arc ,had won everything and needed to win to prove beyond all doubt ,there is no STS in this years field .
STS won the arc from a bad draw after sweating up badly ,he also nearly got caught in a pocket . Before the Arc dont think STS had sweated and although he pulled a bit he settled in his 2k and Derby so the Arc win was very impressive after a long season . 2k, derby ,eclipse, international , irish champion and arc ....no STS in this years race . Always wondered how far STS could have won the arc but i did not appreciate the state the horse was in ,his class carried him through ,this is what separates the good from the great and thats horses and trainers. was chuffed for MK as it was close to being a disaster and us punters would not have swallowed the sweated up ballux ![]() |
By:
STS would not have won this years 2000G
All those number 1`s against his name do not prove he was any better than Australia. |
By:
Dear God,there are some clueless morons on here

By:
I suppose you have Rip Van Winkle down as a better horse than Australia then racingstar? you know the horse that STS just touched off?
It`s easy to get carried away. |
By:
I was referring to the OP's opinion that Australia was a 5/6 chance
![]() Due to a ride of monumental incompetence he fluked his Lay. Then idiots tried to say the ride made no difference to the result ![]() Will they do for starters? |
By:
Apologies racingstar, perhaps if the OP had mentioned that jockey incompetence was evaluated in the 5/6 then we could tip our hat to him.
![]() Put any other rider in that race on Australia and he wins. Put Ryan Moore on and wins more comfortably. |
By:
I never said he was better than Australia AG ,i said there was no STS in the race this year, let the ratings sort that out BUT i think STS is better fwiw
as in a horse who had already stamped his authority and was in the race with everything to lose ,winning the Arc stamped him as a great imo . and winning after sweating and taking a fierce hold also said a lot about the trainer and jockey . APO ran a herd against STS in the derby ,they all had a go from the front and back .....dont forget taht he beat RVW off there as well ,anyhoss who can beat 6 of bally-D,s in the Derby is worth a second look ![]() |

By:
APO had half the field of 12 against STS in derby
By:
racing star, so with a clear run would Australia hosed up like a 1.3 chance ???
By:
Sonko
It did have a clear run. It was the racing line that was all over the place. |
By:
I never said he was better than Australia AG ,i said there was no STS in the race this year, let the ratings sort that out BUT i think STS is better fwiw
Put Ryan Moore on board and i have them both as equals, STS had the assistance of Mick Kinane, Joseph should be riding with an allowance against these two. |
By:
STS had almost the perfect 3yo season. He beat every horse who might have been considered a rival - nothing could get within a length of him over a mile, 10 or 12 - he never "touched off" any horse he won comfortably every time.
Australia's one of the best Derby winners of recent years - but he's not in Sea The Stars' league and will need to do a fair bit more to be considered so. |
By:
Galileo had the assistance of Kinane when he got beaten at 4/11 in the Irish Champion.
By:
By:
Of course he is in the `league` A_T it`s just that Joseph is not in the same league as Mick Kinane.
For example read this. It`s the post race analysis from the Eclipse Seas The Stars won, when beating Rip Van Winkle. Held up in 5th, smooth progress from 3f out to lead 2f out, ridden and hard pressed 1f out, dug deep and fended off challenger last 150yds Put JOB on board STS here and the result may be different. |
By:
Galileo had the assistance of Kinane when he got beaten at 4/11 in the Irish Champion.
Does that prove Kinane was no better than JOB? |
By:
Australia isn't even the best 3yo this year - let alone of the same calibre as Sea The Stars.
We'll see if he can improve his reputation next time he runs. |
By:
It proves hotpots get beat in the Irish Champion Stakes.
The Irish Champion always throws up something amazing and this year's race was no different. Joseph didn't ride a bumbling incompetent race, Moore pulled off something amazing on the Grey Gatsby. |
By:
Galileo didn't improve his reputation the next time he ran after the Irish Champion Stakes. I wonder whatever happened to him?
By:

Australia has it by 1lb over Kingman A_T on official ratings does he not? |

Hippie
Galileo seemed to be a 12f horse, so when pipped by Fantastic Light it was no bad thing. Both rated 130. Galileo then couldn`t keep up in the Breeders Cup Classic over a fast 10f. Then he was retired and the rest is history. |
By:
Galileo won more races over 10f than Australia has.
By:
Galileo won two 10f races.
His 2nd & 3rd races. The latter being a Derby Trial. Fantastic Light had won the Hong Kong Cup over 10f. Tattersalls Gold Cup over 10.5f Prince Of Wales Stakes over 10f Man 0`War Stakes over 11f All Group 1 victories, before he took on Galileo in the Irish Champion Stakes. Looking back, is it not fair to say that Galileo was taking on a specialist 10f Group 1 champion? So when Galileo was just pipped he actually ran a great race. |
By:
The Grey Gatsby is a Dante winner and Classic winner over 10f. I'd say that makes him a specialist 10f Group 1 champion. Australia was pipped on the line so he must also have actually run a great race.
By:
and 50% of Galileo's career runs were over 10f.
By:
Yes you could possibly say that hippie, but the problem with the comparison is that
a) Galileo had not previously shown any dominance over 10f against Fantastic Light( only over 12f ) b) Australia had shown dominance over The Great Gatsby over 10f in the International Stakes at York. Did anyone accuse Kinane for poor judgement in defeat? i can`t remember, but i doubt it. Fantastic Light was prolific at around the 10f distance with a rating of 130. The price was all together wrong, but people expected(or hoped) Galileo to be as dominant over 10f as he was at 12f. |
By:
and 50% of Galileo's career runs were over 10f. - this will trip you up hippie.
8 Career starts. 4 over 10f - 2 of these G1`s and both defeats. 3 over 12f- All 3 of these G1`s and all wins. Seems like a G1 winning 12 furlong horse to me hippie. ![]() |
By:
However saying this Frankie did take it up 2f out on Fantastic Light when you would have expected the horse with more stamina to be stretching them from the front at that stage.
Hindsight is a great thing, but i think it proved over 10f Galileo was compromised by being ridden the same way as when racing over 12f. |
By:
Fascinating reinvention of Fantastic Light's career.
By:
He finished with a OR of 130.
With 6 Group 1 victories. Hardly a reinvention hippie. |
By:
It was more the recreation of him as "a specialist 10f Group 1 champion" I was commenting on.
You seem rather adept at interpreting facts to suit your argument. |
By:
He was very good over 12f but no match for Montjeu or Galileo.
Yet over 10/11f he won 6 G1 races from the age of 4. Nothing beat him, Kalanisi couldn`t get within 2L. He was the best 10f horse around. A Champion. |
