My tip is don't back shorties and let it go, back it when the money comes, watch it get backed in, green up and get out.

These things happen but why don`t C4 just admit Hughes made a bollocks.

The horse got checked in its run by the 2nd and then had to stop-start and pull around the other two and was just bad luck in running but that's race riding. If the 2nd stayed straight it wouldn't have been a problem but no doubt according to some shrewdies on here it's Hughes's fault for er "putting" his horse in a place to be be checked.

Presumably merely having your horse on the course itself can lead to that unless people want jockeys to be psychic too?

I agree with Easygold. You have to expect trouble with a huge field like that. Getting a clean run through all those runners is vitually impossible.....especially on a tight track like Gooodwood. I mean, what a crap ride the winner was given.BlushConfused

won its last race with a clear run in the final 1-2 furlongs.  why did he think he needed to keep him covered throughout the whole race.  clown

If you get to understand...... pace and tracks, and taking form from one track to another, split decisions at 40mph. U blame the jockey,

The horse was just not speedie enough to take the gap, Sandown vs Goodwood, there is ur answer. Opinions, no one can change them.

As yes, I have a problem with Hughes not trying for the place........ this is a total different scenario.

Winners done it well no complaints ,but if that's the Best Hughes can do ,he should be fxcked off out of it ....

No ima he should have been in the clear well before, as he was sitting holding on to his horse behind his beaten stable mate.
Had he switched earlier as he should have late in the race with ground to make up he wouldnt have been beaten.  Brainless ride
cocky or stupid I'm not sure!

Going between horses at any course can always go t@its up,at Goodwood it's almost a certainty it will go t@its up. He should have just switched out wide. The horse needs 6f so any hampering and being stopped in it's run was always going to prove fatal

Finished like a train when it was pulled out didn't it? Can see why people are sure he'd have won.

May or may not have won, debatable. That however, is not the point.

When: 29 Jul 14 14:52
The problem with the likes of Hughes and Spencer is that they are NEVER happy just winning on a good horse they have to try and look clever, its an ego trip, Beacon head and shoulders the best horse in the race and he gets it beat, owners must be livid.

i just think jock messed up overconfident
as for winner only won by 1/2 a length
so result is questionable

Nothing went right for Hughes and I think he was on the best horse in the race, though that is only my opinion.
You can't finish like a train in a 5f sprint if you are hampered twice in the final furlong, so that comment was fatuous or ignorant.
Maybe we can debate that too?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with that formboy but it's easy for us with the benefit of hindsight once we know how things pan out but jockeys don't have that luxury.

The point I was making was not what he could have done but what he did do and I didn't think he did anything wrong and would have ridden that race plenty of times before and come through the gap when it hasn't closed on him and wasn't checked in his run and it was that alone that cost him the race. Had the 2nd stayed straight it wouldn't even be an issue but I don't really want my jockey riding his race worrying about what might or might not happen with another horse.

Bad luck in running via not being psychic as I said.
