Here is his infamous statement for those who never seen it,

"I hope Betfair does something about its increasingly pathetic forum, where one by one the shrewd, witty, insightful contributors have drifted away to be replaced by people who are not safe to be let loose with a crayon let alone a keyboard. How a respectable company like Betfair, which prides itself on the transparency of its product, allows itself to play host to such feeble, nasty, predictable, pocket-talking, barely regulated, anonymous viewpoints is utterly beyond me."

to have such a strong opinion and call the betfair forum "grotty" , he must read the threads regularly Laugh

BM , ask yourself a few questions

betfair eddie
dean mckeoooen
dave smith
etc

this grotty forum could see what was happening long before anyone lost there jobs , had investigations into what they were upto , etc

your paper did not and still doesn't mention all that is wrong within horse racing.

Wouldn't you think that a publication that purports to represent the interest of the punter, carrying out hard hitting investigative reporting into some of the obvious problems that racing has?

Apologies if I missed them I no longer waste my money buying it.

I have not bought the post for nearly six years now & the next time I buy it will be when there is a double page spread on how the high street bookie has totally failed the punter.

So that will be never I suspect.

Bruce,

your paper will stand up for the punter when it starts asking:

Why bookmakers care more about their FOBT users than their horse racing punters
Why bookmakers refer anything over £20 each way to their traders and won't take a proper bet
Why bookies are allowed to close down accounts of anyone they have to pay a decent bet to, or who show any sort of price savvy

When your paper starts its campaign for bookmakers to have to advertise (preferably on oddschecker) how much they will stand to every price they advertise, you will be the paper that is the punters' friend. Before then, don't waste your breath.

To suggest our agenda is dictated by bookmakers is absurd and untrue.

translates as we still need their advertising so can't pish them off

Maybe Betfair could organise a meeting with a small number of forum members, Bruce and some of his journalists to discuss the issues highlighted on here and the issues Bruce has with this forum.

The outcome of the meeting could be shared with forumites and reported in the Racing Post.

Refreshment at the meeting could be a half of lager, roughly the price of the Racing Post.Mischief

I haven't bought The Racing Post for over four years and will never do so again and yet I should be their very target audience as we all should be on here. A tatty, pointless rag which is just a vehicle to promote advertising from bookmakers.

"The Racing Post has always stood up for the punter and will continue to do so."

That comment is just way beyond contempt.

Cycling is probably the cleanest sport around these days, although its clearly had its fair share of problems. But at least cycling has gone through the storm and come out the other side. There are a whole host of other sports that will have to go through what cycling already has done. There are clearly horrendous drug problems in football, tennis and horse racing amongst others, but everyone from the fans to journalists to the governing bodies have their heads in the sand about it.

"He certainly seems to have an unusually strong dislike of this forum. Perhaps it's because it's the only place in the racing world where topics that his paper won't even address are discussed openly and it shows his rag up to be the bookie's benefit publication we all know it is. He must be a very sad little man to bring up the Betfair forum in an article on Twitter abuse. Pathetic really."

Well said Bilbo and that pretty much sums up my own views and that of the vast majority of us on here.

The audited net average issue sale of the Racing Post for August 2007 was 72,184 copies. This was down from 80,343 in March 2007, which in itself was down 7.03% year-on-year.

Racing Post average daily sale (Monday - Saturday) Jan-Jun 2013: 46,871"

How many betting shops are there nowadays and is it safe to assume that every one buys a Rancid Post?
I thought there were at least 8000 (probably nearer to 10K) and so that figure of 72,184 for that particular month) divided by 31 makes an average daily figure of 2328 (are the numbers right?
They can't ALL be for the shops - as nobody on here seems to admit buying it nowadays (I'm another that gave up about 6 years ago) so how viable does that make the limp organ?

Is there a chance they'll get buggered or do they make so much from the shíthouse bookmakers adverts they're comfortable?

Apart from the use of the word "grotty", there's nothing in his article which is factually incorrect. As for his apppearance on the Morning Line, he was correct, the RP costs the same as a half pint of lager. I do not understand why people who dissaprove so much of the Post just don't stop buying/reading it.

The ex kennel cleaner from Crayford has never explained his rapid promotion and as he is not a journalist I am agog at his rapid rise through the ranks...

My grandad joined the Home Guard in 1939 serving tea and by 1944 was in charge of the British Army on D Day and I thought that was rapid promotion...

But at least he had balls.....

In my day when I had more Posts removed from here than have been lost to circulation in the "Millington" years, there seemed to have been a lot more people defending the uneducated one.The Canary Wharf graveytrainers used to come here en masse with more alias's than the passport desk at Heathrow.

Where are they now as they certainly are not tipping winners....

Count me in.I would wipe the floor with him and his cohorts..

I would have to wear a mask though if it was televised. Not because I want to protect my identity but because I am facially challenged.Perhaps I could borrow the one that Bruce should be wearing - maybe not.....Laugh

Bruce had a right go at the Forum a few years back, with his famous statement "not fit to be let loose with crayons, or something along those lines?.
He was getting a little bit of stick at the time, but after the Forum got wind of his infamous article he's been torn a new one ever since.

Better off if he had kept his mouth shut as it had the opposite effect and backfired big time.

Can someone find that thread as I can remember the Canary Wharf tribe coming out big style and taking the rise out of me.Angry
