They all have their bad runs.

Has his share of winners and understands that each race is entirely different and their never will be a blueprint for picking winners.
Report Roger De Bris October 7, 2013 6:23 PM BST
what's the run at the moment?

he'll still make 200pts profit on the year..
Report knot in wood October 7, 2013 6:36 PM BST
possibly the only tipster i would take any notice off.
has a thankless task trying to pick value winners in the mornings these days,as the prices have collapsed the night before(go back out on hear later).
should jack atr in and go out on his own,or even join ruk.
he's just giving the bookies a excuse to shave 3/4 points at the moment.
did pick treve for the arc,but cannot put that type of selection up.(which he should)
Report timberman October 7, 2013 7:38 PM BST

Report windsor_boy October 7, 2013 9:07 PM BST
Do people not realise how irrelevant a losing run is? Incredible.
Report BlazingWalker October 7, 2013 9:11 PM BST

Report windsor_boy October 7, 2013 9:12 PM BST
So what?
Report moondan October 7, 2013 9:27 PM BST
Well I think its very relevant in as much when a quality tipster goes a week or two without a winner you have to believe he is closer to a winner.
I have heard so much nonsense about this game but 2 things are certain, you will have good luck and bad and usually in equal measure over time.
Some will delude themselves but rarely others for very long.
Report kenco October 7, 2013 9:42 PM BST
He's a tipster not professional gambler what do you expect,he wouldn't want to rely on his betting for a living as i'm sure he'd probably admit there are far shrewder people out there.Nothing wriong with that but you see the lemmings coming out of the woodwork once he hits a losing run blown all previous profit and moaning!Shocked
Report windsor_boy October 7, 2013 9:56 PM BST
Yet more clueless nonsense. People who gamble properly understand statistics and probability. An enormous bank has been built up that could withstand losing hundreds of points - this is an irrelevant blip.
Report kenco October 7, 2013 9:59 PM BST
I can assure you hugh taylor has no enormous bank in real money that's an absolute certainty!!
Report moondan October 7, 2013 10:06 PM BST
Well I have gambled for over 50 years and I can assure you that I do understand the laws of averages and probability.
To call other posters clueless when you have written what you have is like the pot calling the kettle black.

Windsor,

If you cut out the use of words like idiot, stupidity and clueless in your posts you wouldn't receive the constant flow of abuse you get on here. I'm sure you are capable of getting involved in reasonable debate, having said that your posting style indicates you have no interest in considering views other than your own.
Report hong kong fooey October 8, 2013 8:07 AM BST
Losing runs are relevant to the price
range you to back at. I don't follow any tipsters
I have also had losing runs of twenty or more
I failed to make a profit one season in the last fifteen
like someone said earlier, its a yearly race
Report djembadjembahighvoltage October 8, 2013 8:29 AM BST
Hugh's talked about long losing runs many times, it's just an inevitable part of backing the type of selection
he's interested in. He's a fantastic tipster and a real student of the game, you only have to read his column to
see that. However, he'd be the first person to tell you that the price is all important in his selections, I think
you need to be able to get around 80% of the price to make a long term profit. Unfortunately it's incredibly difficult
to achieve this as the price crashes less than a minute after it's published. If you do manage to get a selection at
the advised price, you wont be placing too many similar bets in the future with that firm. The column is definitely
a victim of it's own success from this perspective. You can get other people to open accounts for your use I guess,
change your ip address regularly etc etc, but if anyone suggests they are backing his selections regularly at advised
prices over a long period, they're delusional.
Report shambles100 October 8, 2013 9:53 AM BST
I back them almost every day to £10 stakes at the prices available. It can be done and there is a betting firm I am still able to do it with!
Report judorick October 8, 2013 10:00 AM BST
It's a difficult thing to do, make selections every day(especially when half the racing is low grade trash which is inevitably more unpredictable) and that's why you get long losing runs

I mostly bet in the price range 10/1 to 33/1 and manage to maintain a very decent strike and short losing runs... but that's because I am highly selective and only have a few bets a week in the big field handicaps etc

if I had to have a bet every day I'm sure my strike rate would suffer badly which is exactly why I don't even look at most of it

Losing runs are inevitable if you follow a tipster who is forced to tip every day

Good bloke is Hugh

Known him since alt.sports.horseracing days c. 15 years ago and a guy with more integrity and hard-work ethic you couldn't hope to find.

Any losing run he's on will be hurting him becaise of the people he thinks he'll be letting down - and he'll be grafting his crack off to turn it around.
