FFS, how much more are people going to be expected to put up with before everyone starts betting on other stuff....... This sport has ZERO regulation, and not a thing is being done about it
Must admit my patience is waring thin at the moment, things do seem to be out of control all round and the gamble on Planetoid was really taking the p i s s,literally in the face of the BHA

10 days is simply a slap in the face to anyone who wasted their time/money picking this horse out & backing it........ Some gawp actually emailed ATR saying 'people make mistakes, footballers miss open goals etc' What he doesnt realise is that no footballer missed an open goal 'on purpose'........these jockeys are deliberately & wilfully easing off, it's not a mistake, it's unprofessional & it's even more unprofessional of the local stewards to be so f***ing stupid that they "cannot be certain the horse would have won"
Absolute p!ss take & it's getting worse by the day under Bittar who wont answer constructive tweets, but prefers to waffle on about what a good film Anchorman is......WAFPC

Agree with everything that's been said on this thread, the sport is in a shocking state regards cheating, non triers/improvers. The journos and commentators don't help matters by constantly making excuses for the blatant poor rides/results/performances day in day out. No wonder turnover on horse racing is on the way down, while sports betting is on the way up, absolutely no integrity in horse racing anymore, except possibly in group races, though even those trainers go well hooky with the lesser lights in their stables.

i will bet as per normal in decent races and not low grade stuff and you're right nothing new has happened, but that doesn't make it right in anyway, nothing wrong in a gamble just the way it's conducted .

It's NO worse nowadays than 20 yeqrs ago. The only difference now is that we can all see the races on TV. Years ago it was over the old blower and no one apart from people on the track would see what was going on.

my attitude to the game has totally changed......when i see one of my selections drift like a barge, i usually dont back it now and THEY NEVER WIN...........its ok when one drifts from say 4/1 to 11/2..........but when u see it kick out further by a point every 30 seconds, u know it wont win. flirtinaskirt was one such today. drifted to 5/1 at the off...........im not saying it was pulled, maybe it is just not that good, but when i saw that massive drift, i said no way hoosay.........and it couldnt move out of its own way.

The Racing Authorities treat your average punter with complete contempt. The majority of the Racing Media are unwilling to ask anything resembling an "awkward" question for fear of upsetting the people they are faced with every day at the courses, and as a rule I would say most of Trainers/Jockeys are loath to say anything of note either in print or on camera to reading/watching punters apart from the same old predictable sound bitesz we've all heard a thousand times before.
I fully accept the fact racehorses aren't "machines" ,but some of the stunts that are pulled and the explanations given afterwards are laughable at best, as are some of the punishements meted out by the Authorities.

Racingstar reports " nothing new happened" .......oh that's alright then we can all relax in the knowledge that the racing game is gash.
I hope he's not right when he says with some authority "the bleaters will continue to bet" as if we're all lemmings heading inexorably to the cliff edge..
Well Racingstar i've news for u this is one bleater who is betting less and less on Horse Racing cos i've seen the light, and have more belief in my fellow man than you.
Forget about fobts but i would guess year on year Horse Racing is playing less of a part in the revenues of the major bookmaking companies and in return these companies will be more and more careful about the monies they put back into Horse Racing.
Horse Racing authorities need to clean up their act and become a leaner, fitter and less rancid entity if it's going to prosper in the years ahead and not go the way of the dinosaur!

Well the racing authorities need to waken up Captain cos i look around a lot of the forums and read of plenty that have given up on British racing and look at the bookies these days too many of them and empty most of the time except for FOBT addicts. Times are a changing.

the authorities need to give proper bans. this is the issue. coastal passages jock was found not to be trying. he gets 12 days. it should be 6 mths. same today with that clown on petrol. should be 6 mths.

Ive been punting my whole life, and Ive had a fair turnover on here for nearly a decade and have watched tens of thousands of races during that time. In regards the integrity of the racing these days and in recent years is that it has never been worse, that's a fact whether people have the stomach for it or not. I don't know why racing has become so blatantly corrupt, but I suspect stagnating or lowered prize money has a lot to do with it, along with the poor global economy.

Bdj and basil there are a lot of unhappy forumites at the moment we need to see some more punitive measures put in place for the kind of race riding we've seen over the past couple of days and the media need to play a bigger part in this and make much more noise when this nonsense happens for the long term health of the sport imo.

Should get rid of a big chunk of the low-grade garbage, offer better prize money for what remains and deal properly with incidents like that stitch-up at Leicester. That is what should happen but the BHA is not only incompetent but subservient to the High Street Bookmakers so the above will never happen until the day the bookies decide they need to pay for wall to wall Horse Racing any more. I will give it 5 years, maybe 10-12 at a maximum.

Just put a big white pole up 20 yards past the line and say anyone who dosent ride out until after the pole will be banned for six months. End. ( Obviously injured horses etc are omitted from this rule )

while we are at it. Have the starter up on his rostrum ( in tape started races ) from when the horses arrive at the start. the assistant starter can organise all the girth adjustments etc . End of false starts sorted.
Have an outrider competent enough to pull up a loose horse that has bolted pre race. end of delayed starts.
Have an additional ambulance in situ to avoid any of them sort of issues.
Additional stalls handlers for big field maidens or any big field tbh.
Horses that have a proven history of being difficult to load have to go in first or not at all. give them two chances. one with out the blinds one with. Those that don't go in can go flapping.
Christ this aint hard to sort out.

Run them all in individual lanes (railed off from each other) without jockeys on board, tie a stick behind the horses heed with a carrot strategically placed 4 inches in front of the horses eyes, then we will see which is the fastest horse in each race.

Swardean: You could stop all this with a Tote Monopoly and getting ride of handicaps.
Coastal Passage's race was not a handicap. If it had been, then the owner's other runner would have been carrying the same weight as Coastal Passage instead of getting 10 lb. It wouldn't then have looked such a good thing for a forecast/place bet.

The big issue for me is the lack of awareness of how much damage those that are PRETENDING to run this sport are doing it, by simply not doing anything..... The BHA have gone down the road, hand in hand with their 'bookmaker partners' via Gross Profits Tax & are as a result terrified of doing anything that might see racings returns from this wholly IMMORAL deal diminish. Hence we have more chance of scoring the winner in the Cup Final than seeing things like horses weights, sectional timings & anything else remotely useful to punters, because, by the nature of the deal, ANYTHING that would improve people's betting by say 4% would see the sport go bust..... We have stewards who are simply not up to the job, the race last night proves the point perfectly, anyone who wasnt in a coma could see Petrol WOULD have won that race but for Nolans actions, yet they choose a punishment at entry level, because THEY (& their ex-jockey stipes - I wont get into how insidious the employment of ex-jockeys at anything to do with regulation is) could not be sure it would have won......This shows them not to be up to the job, but what does it tell us about the INERT BHA, who just ignore it & expect us all to carry on regardless? We have clerks who water whenever the hell they feel like it & call the ground whatever the hell they feel like calling it, with no one in the media, or more importantly in authority asking WHY one day a 6.8 ready is given as soft, and another day it's given as 'good' because NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBLITY, they are all too cosy, too cosy with the bookies, too cosy with the participants, (Bittar tweeting to jockeys etc, f'kin disgrace) & they are all too frightened of doing anything to rock the boat, or damage their pension prospects. They lack the will & the faith in the sport to stand up to the bookmakers & re-negotiate a decent price for the product & if it meant a strike, now is the time, because much further down this road & the product wont be worth anything to bookmakers and they wont care. But none of the people at the top love the sport enough, they love the salary and swanning from track to track in their company cars & all the while the game can go to hell in a handcart for all they care......Every single one of em makes me sick.

The incestuous nature of the sport doesn't help, most of the people that chair the BHA disciplinary panel are related to some 6th generation Duke or Lord so and so, or their family have been involved with breeding of horses since time began.
In Ireland virtually every member of Horse Racing Ireland/Turf Club are owners of a stud farm.
The Stud Farmer breeds horses to sell to the owner or trainer, the owner employs a trainer or retains a jockey, the trainer employs a jockey to rides his horses, so in effect its all one big happy family.
And it certainly doesn't help when you have the most gutless media that ever existed, their reporting of horse racing is a stain on the good profession of sports journalism, head in the sand springs to mind?.

Well said Jonjo. The BHA only seem to take control when they feel like it or when they're pushed into a corner, even then they rarely make much of an effort. It's an industry run by those in charge like it's a village fete.

"The urine of the horse was found to contain Omeprazole Sulphide, which is a prohibited substance. The trainer exercised his right to have the ‘B’ sample analysed at HFL which confirmed the original finding. The Panel was not asked by the BHA to consider a contribution to the costs associated with the analysis of the ‘B’ sample. After considering the evidence, including a summary of the interviews of Bell, members of his staff and his Veterinary Surgeon, the Panel was unable to establish the source of the substance, and could not therefore be satisfied that the administration of the substance was accidental and that the trainer had taken all reasonable care.
The Panel accepted an admission from Bell that he was in breach of Rule (C)53 and imposed a fine of £1,000 upon him. Under Rule (A)74, the Panel disqualified THE MANX MISSILE from the race.
The Panel informed Bell that all the horses in his care may be the subject of examination and the taking of samples for analysis provided for in Rule (A)49 within the next 12 months."

So basically because they couldnt establish the source of the substance then it could well have been deliberate but yet Michael Bell walks away almost scot free with a paltry £1000 fine a mere drop in the ocean, hardly a deterrent for other would be dopers?.
