Regit - Good post, I think I agree with what you said. I dont think the exchanges are the real problem apart from the fact that they allow certain firms to trade who would otherwise have packed the game in.
Biggest problem I feel in the ring is liquidity, punters just don't have enough cash and racecourses are poor at providing ATM facilities. If you could channel all the marketing fees into hiring and placing more ATM's at racecourses then im sure business would improve. |

it's the whinlatter pass and borrowdale this morning and an afternoon in Keswick by derwentwater and then probably the shin beef cooked in guinness at a 16th centuary inn , together with a few local ales |

ah marketing fees I hope royal ascot are using our marketing fees well. I am sure if they can remind the locals the meeting is imminent they might get more to come,in fact perhaps an advert in the racing post to remind the wider racing public when its on would be a help.or better still do as the likes of Ludlow have done and sponser a race perhaps we could have the bet with the racecourse bookmakers st james palace stakes that would let the racegoers in the private boxes know we were there instead of just thinking betfred/tote were the only ones to bet with.

ok wildman.if your talking about the post above you last post it wasnt me it was jimnast and he stands horses so is one of your good guys.if its something i said earlier and the question was.its the temerity of regit that gets me.you probably dont know but as well as paying a larger number of multiple entrances to bet we also now pay a marketing fee.a one off payment at the begining of the season averaging about £100 per tatts pitch.some racecourses appear to have used the money to market oncourse bookmakers(doncaster showed a video for example)but others appear to have not done anything yet.BTRFED are definately a problem.in the hanger at the grand national meeting an area that the management had used for bookmakers for a number of years was now a btfrd betting shop and the books were pushed to the side.

hope you had as nice a day as me adge.fantastic weather.interested in the number of books at thirsk anyone.weather must have helped crowd.hard to tell from results whether a winning day for books.last result would probably have been better in the middle of the card.8 races too many.glorious morning and a few runners should bring them out at ponty.be lucky.

regarding btfrd jimnast he must be worried that racecourses dont all go down the chesterbet riponbet road.other racecourses will be watching closely.which bookmaker will be the first to take them on with a large sign on the front.

I look on it as a contest when I am racing,I am trying to get money off the bookies and they are trying to get same off me,that's the gamble so when bookmakers try to remove the gambling element by taking no risks they cease to be relevant.
Anyone betting in cash years ago always went racing but the constant refusal of bets the ludicrous each way terms and the new scourge the recycling of your bet on here has driven the cash punter away. David Power bets in England and Ireland he is usually under the odds but he will bet you to decent amounts,although if he is ever going best odds a horse you should no longer want to back it. |

I should think betfred are a bit concerned about the likes of chesterbet and riponbet,i am surprised they have not made a bigger issue of it due to the fact he paid so much for the tote in the first place {although he hasn't pulled it up yet }as a racecourse bookmaker I have no worries whatsoever about chesterbet/riponbet and would be happy to have ascot bet hexham bet and any other racecourse bet rather than betfred.re betting over I have no problems with any bookmaker who bets over lets face it we are there to win. |

10 in tatts,5 on rails,rlyl with 20% of them,he can have 100% next time there's an extra meeting,it was very poor imo,went before the last although laid the front 2 on here,something i should have been doing all day from home rather than at thirsk,another lesson learned,no more extra meetings for yours truly.

Wildman were jut going to have to disagree.i dont refuse bets(one of your countryman had £500ew his horse that won the first at aintree and remarked how polite me and the other book were when paying out.it was probably cos id hedged on here,not all of it and to me it was just part of my book)and i dont bet dodgy ew.when not betting i used to go racing 2 o 3 times a week but rarely go now.for me its the cost £25 petrol,£15 to get in etc. and the fact ive found other things to do.i think the reasons the ring has gone quiet are manyfold and just part of life.anyone who opened an internet cafe 3 or 4 years ago probably thought they had a businss for life but mobile phones have taken over.nobody knows where we will be in 5 years time but onethings for sure i will just be getting on with it.nobody owes me a living.

Fact----- there will be a massive increase in cases of Bookmakers with Repetitive Strain injury in the UK over the next few years as a result of the move neck behind joint check machine move neck back to front of the joint........
Not only are you giving a decent service to those punters left in the ring by laying a bet...... you can be safe in the knowledge that you will still be plying your trade long after the exchange agents have left the ring through RSI |
