If you drink drugs and have a problem it is now a disease?, but if you smoke, inject or sniff drugs and have a problem you are a no good druggie.

he's hardly a struggling apprentice those is he, surely he could afford the cost of a driver to take him to and from courses.

By:
there is no confirmation at present that it is drink driving related

David Easterby, assistant to his father, Mick, who trains Hoof It. "I'm a very big fan, I think he's the best in the north," he says.
"He's the right shape to be a jockey and nothing fazes him. It doesn't matter to him whether it's a Group One race with more than £100,000 in prize money or some race at Wolverhampton. "He wouldn't be able to tell you much when he comes back [after the race] but he will be able to the next day, once he's digested what happened. I'm not bothered about that, I can wait to hear from him. "There was a horse I wanted to try over some cross-country type fences, I'd only broken it in two weeks [earlier]. He carried it over every fence, no one else would have dared, it was brilliant. I've asked him about being a jump jockey and he says, it's a no-brainer, David. I get paid the same amount [on the Flat] and there's a lot less chance of being injured. Plus, when I go racing, it's always on, whereas 20% of the meetings are called off in the winter." Surely Gibbons would have to be a fair bit heavier to ride over fences effectively? "Well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind having 10 pints a day and two pork pies," Easterby says. |

By:
He could say he had a drink when he arrived at the course he must have been there 2/3 hours.
|
|
By:
when did he win a race with £100k prize money ?
must be very serious to have been cuffed at the track.....probably failed to renew his car tax or something similar |
|
By:
If he was cuffed must have battered someone, police taking no chances......
|
|
By:
He'd be handcuffed even if it was a non payment of a fine if it concerns one force arresting for another.
|
|
By:
only confirmation at the moemnt it's unrelated to racing, just said on Timeform Radio.

Graham Gibbons was questioned by police at Wolverhampton racecourse shortly after winning two races. Mr Gibbons lives in Wetwang, between York and Bridlington, and has ridden for several North Yorkshire trainers in the past, including Middleham-based Karl Burke and Mick Easterby, from Sheriff Hutton. He was wanted on warrant after failing to attend Scarborough Magistrates Court in connection with an alleged drunken incident in Castlegate, Norton, earlier this month He turned up at the race meeting after his name was included in the racecards published in the morning papers and was arrested. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested a 31-year-old man on behalf of North Yorkshire Police." Kate Hills, communications director for Wolverhampton's owner ARC, confirmed police had attended the course. She said: "I can confirm the police attended Wolverhampton and asked to speak to Graham Gibbons. "We understand it is not related to racing." The father-of-two was banned from driving for four years in 2011 after being convicted of drink-driving for a third time. North Yorkshire Police confirmed a 31-year-old man wanted for failure to attend court on a charge of being drunk and disorderly on April 8 had been arrested on their behalf and was in custody while enquiries continued. |

I personally would like to wish him all the best in his fight against his addiction ....in my book no better jockey to have faith in when the money is down....fighting alcoholism is a terrible place to be and if he lost his job riding horses he would be on an even faster downward spiral ....Ive witnessed it first hand in my family ,when my uncle a fantastic guy when he was younger got banned from driving when nipping to the chinese 8 mg over the limit (out of order I know),then lost his job as a contract electrician ,lost his girlfriend cos he had no car and no job, followed soon after by his house, well I bought it to try and help him out so he could get a flat ....he then continued drinking after seemingly beating the damn affliction after counselling ,stopping and starting until he couldnt take it anymore and finally hung himself
....All the best Graham ...this is the hardest final furlong your ever gonna face .....just hope you battle it as hard as you ride some of your finishes ...good luck |

good riddance
