What happens is people negotiate.
I think you will find the UK has always paid in more than it gets out. At the time the proposition on the table was rather obviously against Britain's interest. Thatcher ( correctly ) negotiated it down as would any other PM. She called it a rebate because she could make political capital out of that. Always happy to help political novices. |

I wish people would stick to FACTS. Supporters of Scargill just seem to say they hate Thatcher for what she did yet give no rationalle behind that assertion. Scargill for that matter sent his secretary Peter Heathfield to Libya to negotiate funds for the miners with Gadaffi, an international terrorist who supplied arms to the IRA, and later sponsored the Lockerbie bombing. Heathfield himself had doubts about Scargills strategy but was frightened to say. Scargill, for his part, was reported (not proven) to be negotiating with Moscow over financial support for the miners. Does asking countries like this,at the time opposed to England,( cold war)not give the impression that there were moves afoot to subvert this country. Do the supporters of Scargill et al really support this?

yeayeah she was such a "paragon of virtue" that she got MI5/CIA to try to blacken Scargills name on the ruse that he was getting funds from KGB,that he was mis-appropriating funds both lies,she spent £12/15 billion breaking the miners money that could have been spent on infrastructure to give people hope/work rather than destroying them,she set up that patsy Roy something or other from the Nottingham coal fields eulogising him as the type of leader miners needed got his day in the sun then was dumped like her unceremoniously on their a--es,I don,t have much if any time for union leaders who at the end of the day are wetting themselves to "get up there" along with those that are the perceived enemy sad really when you think of it but to make her out as a true and wonderful human being is way way wide of the mark.
