So you are willing to risk the health of an animal for the pleasure of your betting?

Hmmm.

It's a bit like asking the difference between the organisers of the London Marathon and somebody who randomly assaults people in the pub.

The young girl killed by 4 dogs......should we put all dogs down to prevent such an episode or should we use common sense, something you seem to be sadly lacking .

This twaat would be more likely to favour putting down all young girls so the lovely dogs are not led into temptation.

Is it safer for horses to run on the flat, or over jumps?

This specimen is a danger to humans as his ilk have been through the ages, give them a cause and they will pursue it like the "FANATICS" they resemble and hell mend the consequences.

Dear Mr Angry
Assuming you are not on a fishing trip can I ask a question?
If you get rid of jump racing, what would you do with all the horses that are bred, which are not fast enough to be competitive on the flat.
By getting rid of jump racing you are committing far more horses to an early grave than the number of fatalities.

Is it safer to ride a bike or drive a car?

Let me paraphrase.  Yes, it is safer on the flat.

Therefore, horses are raced over jumps knowing the increased danger.
We accept that extra danger, because it brings pleasure.

And you want me to get off my soapbox?  It seems you are the ones with issues, knowing causing animals to suffer.

The same argument used by the Romans, no doubt, about their slaves.

Judge man by the way he wields his power.  We are wielding it to knowingly inflict suffering.

Nice.

You are causing me suffering with your twisted logic, on that basis I think you should be the subject of a lobotomy to see what actually makes you tick.

You see a man hitting a woman.
You see a man hitting a dog.
You see a man with power.

What is your opinion of that man?

You see a man hitting a child.
You see a man hitting a dog.
You see a man with power.

What is your opinion of that man?

IF you are a civilised person, witnessing these beating will make you feel uncomfortable.  We are witnessing the abuse of power.  The man could do anything with that power, but he chooses to inflict suffering.

Nice.

Most of those racehorses lead pretty privileged lives - assuming they're not amongst the unlucky ones who die or get seriously injured.  Certainly the majority of them live better and longer lives than most farmed animals - even freerange ones.   And, for that matter, I suspect they live better lives than most of the housing estate oiks who spend their days on here!!

Hardly...  I think if you compare the life and mindset of a racehorse to that of a Roman slave, you'll see quite a difference in terms of contentment...

"You can judge a society by how well it treats its prisoners"
Fyodor Dostoevsky

On other words - you can judge society by how it uses its power.

Society, currently, is choosing to use its power over animals to bring entertainment, just as Romans used their power over slaves.

In a hundred years we will look back and be ashamed.

I'm a member of no organisation.  And it seems to me that you are truly brainwashed, believing that forcing horses to race over dangerous obstacles or to exhaustion for the SOLE BENEFIT of your betting entertainment, is acceptable.

Mr Angry, A question, where would you draw your line? I assume that you are not too keen on shooting and fishing, even for the pot!. But dressage?, showjumping? greyhound racing? terrier racing? Crufts?

Of course, I'm a vegetarian.  I believe that in this modern age there is no need to eat meat.

However, if it's a case of life and death then I would kill to eat.  That's natural.  I also support culling of animals, where necessary.

Where it's not necessary, why inflict suffering?

Why inflict suffering for no need?  What does that say about you?
