Yesterday was the first time I have watched CH4(for months) Dewey,Mick was totally out of his comfort zone.
National Hunt I have no problem with Mick,he might even have thrived with the old line up given time. With this new shower/his old muckers.........disaster. Chimps have been trained to use a touch screen better than that lot and Mick just does not fit in and never will if they carry on a sterile,self serving show like yesterday.Worse than the old but at least Mick would have found a niche eventually with them,once Balding shows her fat,supercilious a£$ they might as well all pack their bags. I will offer anyone evens to any money CH4 viewing figures rise for a month and then plummet bar the "Festival" meetings. |

Think we can safely assume that Mick Fitzgerald's script for the program was to be a Sea The Stars fan and would have watched a re-run of the Arc prior to going on air - in fact, perhaps just a re-run of the last few furlongs as no mention was made of the task that Kinane was faced with trying to settle him in the early stages, which was one of the lasting memories of that race.

I think that looking at the overall response on this topic it is safe to say that the vast majority dont like the new set up! Words like " bland, boring and painful" seem to be the most used description of this dire programme. Many a reasoned argument put forward on both sides, but as we are ALL racing fans I reckon "SWITCH OFF" is definitely NOT amongst them. It is a racing programme and is there primarlily for racing fans. Therefore "switching off" is an utterly negative response. I want to see the programme back to something like it used to be. Everv since the Guest Test slot ( as I call it that period) when the programme took one almighty backward step into the abyss, it has steadily gone even lower. All this touch screen stuff?? Is that supposed to be what we all want?? I cannot speak for you but its not for me! It IS dross in my opinion , and I sincerely hope they go back to basics, AND SOON!

how could you make a programme from the all weather on kempton interesting? trouble is we on here are all die hard fans who know as much as those presenting and do not need the dumbing down which seems to always light the touchpaper

The Kempton aw preview ML shows the problem. For a start, the programme was cut in half.
Racing fans, many with jobs during the week, watch the Morning Line primarily for a preview of that afternoon's racing, and if Kempton is the only meeting, then the ML should cover Kempton and not turn up its collective nose because Ascot has been snowed off. The Morning Line's model should be Football Focus. Review the past week; preview this afternoon; emphasis on the latter. Do not "bring on the dancing girls" to try to convert non-racing fans who are not watching anyway. The afternoon programme should also ape the football. Show us what is happening; tell us what is happening. Do not assume that an audience which has tuned in to watch horseracing will be bored by the sight of horses in the paddock or going down to the start. Show us more: more camera angles; better, specialist pundits; more imaginative graphics. But remember we want to watch the racing. |

verbotene good shout re Sea The Stars. Fitzgerald still hasn't copped that the horse was purposely buried to settle it. Anyhow I'd much rather watch the old Big Match on Sat morning's now. No teamwork whatsoever on C4 racing, all trying to be clever and all out for themselves.

What the team needs is someone with vast racing knowledge,plenty of presenting experience and enthusiasm, plus a good rapport with the general public.The name Thompson springs to mind.

flyingbolt, you may be naive to the way this industry works, but whether you like it or not, these programmes are designed to keep punters betting and losing - that way the racing industry, that funds itself through a share in the bookmaking industry's profits, makes more money, and C4, a commercial platform whose objective is ONLY to make a profit, continues to receive betting industry sponsorship and advertising revenue. The broadcast exists to help its commercial partners remove the money of the people watching - it's not there to make punters' lives easier, which, I would suggest, is why it employs tractable bookmaker mouthpieces, presenters with family links to the racing industry, failed tipsters, and 'pundits' who couldn't make a profit from betting if they had until the end of the century to practice...
