On the basis that Brig. Gerard won the most competative
Guineas of all, beating Mill Reef & My Swallow with ease
without even a prep run. And won the King George 1m4f.
The Brigadier.

Over a mile-dont know,nobody does.

What they achieved as a racehorse-BG.

I've seen them all since 1967 and Frankel has to be number one , his Guineas performance would have beaten Brigadier Gerard , Nijinsky and the rest , the only performance that compares is Secretariat's 1973 Belmont Stakes .

frankels guineas albeit v impressive to watch was a race full of inept tactical rides combined with agurably the worst field ever assembled for the race.

had a horse like even excelebration been in the race and had not let a horse like frankel et 5L on the field from the beginning then imo frankel wouldve been beat of would nto have won by more than a length.

beautiful to watch but the rest just allowed him to go on combind with the fact they were on absolute donkeys.

fwiw BG wouldve beaten frankel comfortably on that particular day, frankel was running in treacle at the end.

It's all subjective , and none of us will ever really know , I just feel Frankel's first 7 furlong blast would have been too much for any horse to cope with .

Jimnast,
Chief Singer,Lear Fan although excellent, hardly compare with
Mill Reef,My Swallow. Although I'd say Chief Singer & Frankel are of similar running style & ability.
El Gran.'s Guineas, second best field ever.
Frankels was without doubt the worst I've ever seen & the race was a complete mess.

Well i do believe that any contest is never certain, ask anyone that can remember what happened to all the punters that backed Goliath against David, many stadium bookmakers went bust paying out the 1,000,000/1 bets on David and they didn't have FOBTs in those days to make up for bad businessWink

Frankel ... it was slower racing in 1972, the breed has moved on enormously since those days, more fragile but a lot faster

Frankel for me........but wish HC had tried him over a mile and half. Would have easily stayed that trip on G/F.

Frankel. He didnt run long distance but we did see him at his very best unlike STS who only ran as "a boy/young man "

Frankel needed a V. O Brien, D. Weld or A. O' Brien to train him - A Hurricane Higgins a Ronnie O Sullivan.
Unfortunately he got H.Cecil, - the Steve Davis (safety at all costs) of racing.
Frankel's career - the saddest in racing, we will never know how good he was.

is that the same trainer who sent his 1987 derby winner to the st leger.

The Brigadier because he won The King George.
I DID see him and when beating second-raters was just as impressive as Frankel doing the same.

Jimnast,
Thats coz Frankel only one one miserly classic like BG as a 3yo.
Great horses win multiple Guineas,Derby's,King Georges,St Legers
& Arc's then retire job done. - They dont need to run as 4yo -
nothing left to prove!

Frankel.

I saw BG at Goodwood - he was magnificent - 5 clear all the way, galloping powerfully - one of my most cherished racecourse memories was watching him thunder up the straight. But I think Frankel could have shadowed him and sauntered upsides - and found enough to go past.
