just texted my journo mate - it's all over for Folkestone.Course needs refurb , can only be funded by housing redevelopment and the council have been beasted for supporting the development. Will take 5-7 years anyway.

RIP Folky

haha you are deluded. they have been saying it on here already, you didn't need to text your journo mate, who doesnt even exist.

It is very sad to see these courses closing but in reality the sport needs to shed many more to survive imo...

There are a number of tracks in serious jeapordy based on this.

The real reason of course is that admission to small courses is irrelevant. Its the TV money that makes the dough. Hard nosed businnes but why operate 20 venues when you can get the same income from running 8?

Screw the local racegoer.

Great point money. Because I get an enormous level of kudos on thee forum by inventing a friendship with a £22k pa senior reporter on the Folkestone Herald don't I?

Utter mug - clearly if you knew her you would regard that as something that bigs you up and makes you look beetter? You must be a f@cking bin mann FFS

haha, why are you seething so hard? i was just making an observation. why are you seeking clarfication about an issue that has already be substantiated on the forum, from a person that doesnt exist?

Very sad news, enjoyed my visits to both these tracks, lovely restaurant overlooking the finish at Hereford I seem to recall (not that I was eating in there!). Also a nice paddock area at Folkestone from memory. Anything that takes away from the diversity of British racing can't be good but it seems to be the way of the world now with cutbacks everywhere you look.

Still hoping Great Leighs will open again as along with Ffos Llas they were the two courses I never got around to visiting. Though sounds like the grandstand needs repositioning somewhat at the Essex venue from what I have heard!

Not that Ffos Llas is closed obviously lol but that is the other track I have not ventured out to yet (I'm based quite along way away from it!)

we have got to look after the immigrants, they would look after us if roles were reversed; you know that.
mind you the chap who was given £750 to f... off back to his own country (after serving a four years criminal sentence!) was somewhat remiss to sneak back in, shag a brit and then claim Human Rights becuz they had a baby.
he WILL be receiving a 'racing for change' brochure as part of their opportunism drive.

No county in England should be devoid of a racecourse,Folkestone should forget about improvements and just race on,the real racing enthusiast goes for the racing not the facilities.

Mr Banks thread sums the situation up perfectly. Transfer fixtures, close venues, lower costs.

How will they get out of the last 17 years of the lease at Hereford though? They will legally be obliged to pay rent for that period unless they have a plan B to flop a certain part of the company.

I'm personally gutted.

Although I only bet on the Flat seriously there's nothing better than a day out jumping.

Both tracks I've always found friendly and a great day out, I really worry now about the like's of Worcester & maybe even Plumpton & Stratford.

All 'they're' interested in is filling up Saturdays with 3 or 4 big meetings.

40 years ago, even 10 years ago we had 1 big meeting on a Saturday, now we seem to have bloody Chester every weekend, then York, Sandown, Haydock etc, piss poor.

It's a good job my grandad is dead, this might have killed him, he loved Hereford.

Pappy took me there lots of times, absolutely shocking scenes and yet another childhood haunt is finnish.

Can't believe - this -  where was the warning ?. How come the RP have been completely blindsided by this - are all their journalists incompetent. There would have been much more of an outcry if we;d known about it.

I'm not too sure the racing industry will mourn the demise of Folkestone.
I remember taking a trip down there about 8 years ago, I went in the box
stables for the horse were a disgrace, old wooding boxes, knocked up quickly.
Everything was bedded down on paper. Food for the lads and lasses, was barely edible
Not a nice day out, If I'm honest

down that way Sandwich, Deal, etc I love that part of the country, I hope to retire

I went to Folkstone last year...only for 1 race. I just had to see Mike Smith live :)

Sad times but given the economic climate especially in British racing it was probably comming for some time.

Sadly might be more to follow.

The increased prize money at other fixtures is akin to Monmouth Park reducing their summer fixtures so they could guarantee $1mUSD every day in prize money.

My fear would be once Northern and Arena see the benefits of this (they may already have and this is a just a precursor for what's to follow) they'd try to shut a few more down.

wonder whose next on the hit list :(

Terrible news, I have never been to Hereford but have been to Folkestone a good few times and had a runner there one day. A very friendly track that is what it is and I for one always enjoyed going there. I have friends that live nearby and when I stayed with them we always went racing. Absolutely awful Sad

Hereford COUNCIL -

Now they that they were, "UNAWARE of Northern Racing's decision" ....

and that - "the first that they knew about it was at Mid-day."

Typical of Northern Racing plc.
