Phew. Bit of a struggle keeping up with all that! What a busy day! And what an excellent turnout to greet the new thread. Many thanks to everyone for joining in - and commiserations to those, the first-timers especially, who fell at the first. I sincerely hope it doesn't put you off having another go. One of you (shane knows who it is!) said laying is easy. But we all know how hard it can be and there is absolutely no shame in falling at the first. Otherwise I would be in an almost permananent state!

In fact perhaps the biggest surprise is how few were actually lost - just nine fallers. We've had that many in smaller fields before now. Anyway hard luck fallers (including me) - but thanks for trying. I'm the only former winner to go out. We've got two double-winners and seven other champions still in the race. This could be a hot one and I reckon whoever wins will deserve that gold medal (not that he/she will get one before you ask ).

Well done to all those who made it over. Must say when I saw five of you go for Dutch Old Master I couldn't resist, in zipper's words, lumping on myself! Knight Commander's lay of Juno The Muffinman stood out from the crowd in that the horse actually refused to race. Either it hasn't been getting enough muffins or it spotted that KC had laid it and realised the game was up!

Top layer at fence one, would you believe, was our old freind the "serious gambler" - or rather accomplished wind-up merchant, whichever way you want to look at it  - Ziggiesbarsbust, who got Pearl Bell beaten at 1.92. Very nice laying there sir! Not far behind was our old chum and former champion deadbrain59 with a 2.24 lay, followed by Virgin (yes you read that right), backer of rank outsiders but, it would seem, layer extraordinaire of extreme shorties - 2.6 today! Then came a seriously good 2.91 lay of Goldream by newcomer shanelee1966 (new to us but very well known to afficionados of the naps competition). Big well done to you all!

There were some close shaves, notably when Ardross66 and another newcomer, Monte Christo, took on Rivas Rhapsody and were left with a dry-cleaning bill after a photo-finish. But shane's dad (Nijinsky) paid the price of overconfidence in that encounter!

And it was hopefully not an omen that the first lay to christen the new thread was a winner that saw twomatchpoints (and that idiot Reged ) crash out before we'd hardly got going. Sorry TF, maybe I jinxed it! pumphol responded at the time 'first in last out'. Um, not quite P.

The very best of luck tomorrow guys. It's a crowded field - I predict some bumpy rides!

Oh, and i have double-checked I got everyone in, but in case I HAVE missed someone, please SHOUT!
