Pal of mine, 61 years old, doesn't own a computer, backs to decent stakes 2-3 times a week when he fancies something strongly.

Phoned and asked me which firm were best price on a horse in the 3-15. Told him Corals were 8/1

Only 3 minutes walk and the price was still there when he placed £25 on it.

Call to head office which took 3 minutes and he was offered the bet at SP.

Unbelievable.

It's high time, that somebody came on a programme, (for example), 'The Morning Line' and expose them, for what they are!

It's f*cking scandalous!

The Morning Line, and in particular Stevenson, are absolutely 100% complicit. Their agenda is ONLY to assist the bookmaking industry in commercial misrepresenation of the very worst kind...

Kenny did the horse win and what was the sp?

I got a couple of facts wrong batman50

The horse was Blue Zealot in the 5-25 Bath

The requested stake was £50 at 9/1

The horse ran 2nd sp 7/1

There were 2 nr, not sure if before or after bet was attempted to be placed.

Last wednesday phoned korals to place £100 on holland to beat germany draw no bet market at 11/10.Bet referred to trader, minute or two later a rather embarrassed telephone operative declared you can only have £30 at evens.Hence I declined there pitiful offer.Phoned Sadblokes for same bet, sent to bac came back with an offer to accept £90.Again I did not place bet as surely its just really poor customer service not to accept the full £100 bet.It does make you wonder if the people at the head of these companies know what these micky mouse traders are doing.I did finally get the bet on elsewhere, these pathetic trading decisions therefore lost there companies £100 and maybe this customer will look to place his bets elsewhere in future.

Masterpappa, I'm told that half the problem is that if these 'traders' lay someone warm a bet of any sort that goes on to win, there are consequences.

One of the aspects of the whole charade that still baffles me, is that they would genuinely prefer to p!ss off someone they don't want than get a horse/team they clearly want to lay into the book.

They want to get filled up at the price, but the money has to come from proven losers...

bilbo you have a lot to learn..

There is no liquidity on the horses in the morning especially on the place market....

As I have stated on here many times the only way to win  (in my humble opinion) is with an inflated  price on an each-way single..

In a 16 runner handicap the place price rules as it is obvious that the horse is at least (backing an outsider) FOUR times more likely to be in the frame than win....
Report bf_fananatic June 18, 2012 9:51 PM BST
The very fact that the place market is worse than the bookmakers e/w market points the finger at just who is arbing this exchange and watch this post get pulledWhoops
Report History Maker June 18, 2012 10:05 PM BST
I have a much bigger problem with e/w terms than bookies misrepresenting their prices.

It's absurd that the value of a bet that has already been struck can be so badly affected when a horse is pulled out of an 8-runner field.

We should switch to an American style win, place and show system, only with quoted prices, and deductions proportional to prices at the time the bet is taken. No reason that that can't be done these days. I'd even settle for a tote system.
Report pumphol. June 18, 2012 10:15 PM BST
Never could get head round the fact you are penalised twice for a non runner in say an 8 horse race.
Example you back two horses ew then they take out a 4/1 shot, one horse comes third, tough luck you do your money, other horse comes second sorry we are going to deduct 20%.
In my mind pay first three & deduct 20%

my local willhill has a notice on the window no id no entry
trouble is its counter is down a flight of stairs and to the left
you could easily walk in underage and watch your older mates play the machines
and even give them your money (the underage ones) and tell them what to bet it on
etc

It is getting to the point were there will be an EU investigation into Bookmakers practices...

This happened to me with koral, I 'phoned them to take advantage of their offer about COLOUR VISION for gold cup, their advert in RP, read 8/1 I asked for a double with THE FUGUE in OAKS EW,
THE FUGUE was laid at 7/2 as printed in RP but a reduction in price for COLOUR VISION from 8/1 as printed, to 6/1, I accepted their price, but for 5 (five) days later they advertised the price at 8/1, when I 'phoned them their top spokesman blamed the RP, I said that if I was to draw from the bet I would ask for all money to be sent to my account and I would never bet with them again, I have withdrawn my money and have no intention of betting with them.
