How can he get himself motivated for some nonsense race at Folkestone or Beverley for example when he has had the glory days?

what cos he's paid to do a job that's why for the owners and trainers. if he can't motivate himself as you say well then he should just do one or get sacked like us mere mortals would be if we wern'e motivated for work !

Jockeys like all other sportsmen have their day, Frankies in the same boat and while he still gets a lot of what should be quality rides his efforts are quite pathetic in many races.

Fallon was one of the true greats but does not get the quality of horse so much these days.
Great horses make great jockeys.

Most jockeys go on too long, as their reputations fade more slowly than their abilities with age, so they still get on the better horses, which masks their decline.

Seriously, what other top-level sport has so many leading players well past their mid-30s? Fallon is 48 years old.

Even snooker, now standards have risen so far since the 1970s, is a young man's game.
