Frankel one of the best I have seen , from 1950 onwards when I first watched horse racing .
The problem is that the very highly rated horses tend to race at over a mile , and ratings are very influenced by horses who gallop others into submission over distances in excess of a mile . Secretariat has to be the best ever going on triple crown and speed figures . He was a monster of a horse who raced not unlike Frankel , albeit over longer distances so far . But we tend not to trust horses who have the "advantage" of performing under a less stringent jurisdiction than we operate in Europe . People also forget that a certain southern hemisphere country was where substances capable of improving a horses performance ( illegally) came from to UK racing in the sixties . Nijinsky was the last winner of our Triple Crown , which makes him the most versatile horse of the last 60 years , but a completely different type of horse to Frankel , plus he had the genius aboard . Along with Sea Bird , Mill Reef , Brigadier Gerard these horse set the standards , and I am not sure Sea The Stars was better ( or as good) than any of those . We will never know , thats one of the best thing about debates over generations . |
