Agree about the drug laden athletes but look at the jobs it has created,whatever money it costs will be recouped with interest.
Remember we are old and cynical but the younger people will get a great thrill out of the Olympics like we did when it was held in Tokyo. |

The Chair's salary of £365,507 is not to be sniffed at, especially as the Lord gets £500 to £1,000 per committee meeting he attends.
He made £7,000 from attending meetings, in the last year for which LOGOC filed accounts at Companies House. It says these payments are: 'Intended to recognise not only the time spent in preparing for and attending the meetings, but also the significant contribution made by Directors in carrying out their duties.' Lord Coe also earns a small fortune delivering speeches for up to £25k a pop. Topics include 'The Winning Mind', 'Taking on World Class Competition', and 'Maintaining the Appetite to Succeed'. 25k a pop for a few words at a fancy event...the world really has gone NUTS imv... people struggling to put food on the table and HE gets 25k to say a few words...DISGUSTING. |

I'm still quite disapointed at the Olympic stadia,accomadation et al, being built during the biggest recession this country has seen and it benefiting only the workers who's door step it was built on.

I havnt been down there for a good few years but when i was,Beckton and East Ham were the heartlands for the Eastern Europeans which is the doorstep of where the Olympics were built,is it not? |

you have not been there recently obviously, you can always check the demographics, newham is currently 30% muslim tower hamlets 40% muslim and these are conservative figures, so who will the olympic park legacy be for? because if it is for the local comunity it will not affect many english people thats for sure

You can't beat being there but this has to be one of the greatest ever rip-offs perpetrated on the British public and no way would I pay the amount of money that's been asked for tickets.That said,no one seems prepared to admit to where the athletics tickets have ended up.Does anyone know a member of the public who has got one?
I officiate at about 40 athletics meetings each summer and since the tickets went on sale have been asking fellow officials if they have applied for any.Only met 2 who have.I know several people who travel the World to the major Athletics Champs and only one(one of the aforementioned two)has applied for 2012.A friend who went to Seoul for the 2009 World Champs told me that his ticket for the entire games cost £250.Included was a free buffet at every session,morning and evening.The most expensive ticket cost £500.On Monday I spoke to the father of one of the athletes at my club who told me that he'd bought 2 corporate tickets for the anticipated final featuring Mo Farrah for £875 each  I don't know the bloke.Maybe he's wealthy,but £875,ffs,though if Mo wins it will give him,the bloke,unforgettable memories.I was at the Olympic stadium on Monday for the final day of the British University Champs.21 Finals.Cost £5 to get in with a free programme  At a guess I'd say that I was sitting in one of the circa £500 seats.It lashed it down and I got soaked.The roof isn't fit for purpose.If it rains during the Games the **** will really hit the fan as the Worlds TV commentating crews,to whom a vast amount of space is devoted,will find themselves and their monitors and laptops getting similarly wet. |
