2 proposals for change september 2012, tattersalls pitches minimum 10K purchase price, daily pitch fee £500. Most tattersalls pitches, ain't worth a w*nk! |

barry has lived a charmned life with all the free publicty he got via c4 and atr not satisfied with that he would go to any lengths to get an advantage over his fellow bookmakers
By:
He is an exchange agent like many other course operators just on a much bigger scale,
By:
RR dont be scared just put a name to my backer that you know about, I'M WAITING.
By:
the only backers i've got are to the proposals and plenty of them.
10 years ago plenty wouldn't lay a £70/40 now they lay £700/400 and have £380 back at 2.80 and think their clever. |

Its called progress!

By:
Dear Mr D
Please can you expand and explain your 2 proposals as i can not follow your logic, with some contracts already signed at racecourses. Thank you |

I have had a pull at Barrys leg on more than one occasion, mostly because of his miserable visage when counting out readies.
However I have for many years agreed with him on many more occasions than disagreed on the subject of on course bookmaking. In todays climate and the way the big boys have moved there should be no charge for bookmakers to attend a meeting. There should be a ban on any bookmaker hedging with exchanges and at least a 50% reduction in entry prices for punters at every course in the UK. Any bookmaker wishing to hedge from offshore or UK based shops should be compelled to put it into the on course market. Fantasy you may say.........impossible to police........quite the opposite and at least a start to get the job going again. |
By:
GT-MOLE made a good living for 30 years without exchanges, would welcome hedging with exchanges banned, lets see em lay £700/400 then.
By:
Hi mr D
Perhaps you would be kind enough to answer my earlier question? |
By:
Barry,
Mick Howard, would lay a £700/400 Whoops, i've only forgotten the f*cking decimal point! £7.00/4.00 ![]() |
By:
the proposals dont need explaning, contracts aint worth diddly squat, money talks. wait till september and find out.
By:
there is a certain member of the SBPA, that layed £700/400 to a punter when they bet 7/4 each 10 bar, the punter returned within 5 seconds and said "you've given me the wrong horse I wanted the other 7/4 chance" said Bookie?????? replied too late I've already had it back
By:
Mr D
A polite question was asked, i would have appreciated a better natured response. I did ask for an expansion of your comments. Be a decent fellow and expand on your comments. Thank you |
By:
pitches minimum £10K to buy, Daily pitch fees £500, what needs explaining.

Well i have given you the opportunity and you have not failed to disappoint.
Yes it is very clear. However, the wording asked for an expansion on these points. This appears something that you are incapable of doing. Please try harder to read and listen. Remember we have 2 ears and one mouth. i would suggest you use these in these proportions in future. |

Rape is an odious offence for which no penalty is harsh enough but it seems that racecourses get away with it with impunity.
Bangor and as I hear Chester want to run an in house book at 10% below SP,Barry and I disagreed on this subject the other night. He says those sort of punters dont care/dont know about value. That may be so but it should not make it right. Whilst supporting on course bookies in getting a fair deal, surely it is paramount that punters get an equal footing. No punters = no bookies.......no owners = no trainers......no horses = no industry. Free entry or at least 50% discount for disabled/over 60s........no charge for bookmakers to attend a meeting including staff replaced by a % of profit over a season based on meetings stood at regardless of position or meetings prestige.? |
By:
How can all Tatts pitches be considered to be worth at least £10k and worth a £500 daily fee ? The only explanation could be that it is a mechanism for reducing the nos. of books in attendance and hence the demise of bank holiday only layers. Could this proposal be a matter for the OFT ? If I am not mistaken it was not so long ago that the cry went up that the prevailing system was corrupt that prevented back line bookmakers graduating to the front line - I cant remember who shouted loudest
! If there is any truth in the Sept. 2012 proposal does it not hint of the deviciveness that existed in those dark distant days ? |

Having read many discussions on hear ,it seams to me ,that bookmakers biggest enemy are their fellow bookmakers in the betting ring.would i be wrong in saying there is a dog eat dog mentality in the betting ring.
By:
always has been swampy as far back as i can remember , but when we left the course we bought each other rounds of drinks in the pub
By:
in fairness there are a few now who would have to buy their own and stand alone in a corner

Democrat,I have never been or wished to be a bookie. However my uncle who recently passed away was one of the first to own a licenced shop when the legislation changed. Also one of the first to sell out to Laddies.......circa 1967/8.Also had the dubious pleasure of my cousin being the youngest licenced bookie at one point.
In the post legal betting world Off Course John Banks one said "A betting shop is a licence to print money"..........no on course bookies suffered as far as I know when off course betting became legal. Decades later the no tax on course gave the bookies yet another injection to help them along and of course the tracks.20+ years ago I tackled Manny Bernstein and many others about allowing mechanical machines into shops. Predicted exactly what would happen on and off course and the cuckoo has come home to roost unfortunately. Both sets got greedy and consequently everyone has suffered. However........the on course books only got greedy in terms of their position and flogging them to the highest bidder.........thereby hangs a tale of some people buying a business they had not a clue about.More to follow.......maybe. ![]() ![]() |

By:
this mick howard who got a mention i was under the impression he was a good bookie as all he ever does is tell people nobody else is capable of bookmaking also does he ever go the correct place terms

By:
Was nobody interested in Adge's post about a press conference today re. jockey club. Adge is the deal public knowledge yet?

By:
PS,FOR CHESTER.
By:
I hear that the oncourse betting shops are doing well,as they lay each way at correct terms.
By:
ONCOURSE BETTING SHOPS ARE RUN BY THE "big firms"HENCE THATS WHY U CANT TAKE A PRICE,OR GET A BET ON.
By:
Who said you can't take a price,of course you can.No restrictive practice in operation. No problem getting on either.
