coc roger osgood has suggested he is quietly confident of racing, covers have been down since jan 31st ,however there is quite a bit of snow forcast for the oxford/banbury area thursday into friday if that was to drift 25miles or so south they could be in trouble.

The question has to be what sort of temperatures can the covers withstand?  I presume they cannot prevent frost getting into the ground once the temperature falls below a certain level.  Anybody know what that level is?

QS STANDS UP HARD 2BEAT , BUT BOSTENS ANGEL NOW STABLE IN BETTER FORM MUST GO CLOSE . SYNCRONISED MUST SURELY BE THE HORSE TO BEAT ?

Yeah all depends what you made of the Lexus Chase, my opinion was it was a bloody awful race. He beat a horse i think is overrated and a non stayer in Rubi Light, Joncol ran a shocker and the rest just ain't good enough. Then there are doubts about him turning up. Luckily i backed Quel Esprit well before the money came for him.

Bostons Angel is interesting and at the prices now i'd say the value, as you say Jessies horses are in much better form now. If i hadn't already gone with Quel Esprit and was playing the race now i'd probably back Bostons.

Off out, gl today if you're playing anything Cool

I live 10 mins from course and until today I thought it would def be on but think it unlikely now. Hard frost last night and it's not going to be as warm as forcast earlier in the week - I hope it is on as it's a cracking day. Newbury often misses the snow when forecast, def more touch and go than the newbury exec are making out!

I know the BBC weather is rarely accurate, but they reckon there's a fair bit more snow on its way for the end of the week. Fingers crossed it misses Newbury.

Surely if it's off they will re-schedule for next week? I would hope they are tentatively already making plans. This would be too good of a card to let fall aside.

The betting on this is incredible. 6/4 to be off. Bucket of snow Thurs night, frost, daytime temp on Sat of 0 deg.

back it then walter.

Certainly have but it's a bit weird to back something you really don't want to happen.
By:

When: 08 Feb 12 15:45
Problem is Walter you're gambling on the Met Office Cry weather forecast being accurate which is bigger than a 6/4 chance on any given day...
By:
rocky ttotal
When: 08 Feb 12 15:46
walter, the snow is forecast to miss Newbury, and if the frost covers have done there job,( which they usually do at newbury)it wont freeze at 0 deg when finally exposed on saturday.Hence the 6/4.

Covers been down for over a week now. Richard Osgood was quite optimistic today. I'd go for a Saturday morning decision.

clerk of the course comes across as almost confident even though he does not want it to appear that way incase it doesent go ahead. If it is racable today no reason why it wont be in a few days also factor in how big this is if it is borderline it will go ahead no doubht.

Nicky Henderson upbeat on the going ahead of Newbury’s Saturday card:

'AP & I both walked round the track this morning and we’re happy. They’ve done a great job of covering and I don’t envy the job of uncovering!

The course looks in great nick and to be fair you could race on the Flat track today, which is not covered, it’s that good and there is a nice strip of new ground on both the hurdle an...d chase courses.

We’ve just got to pray the elements will be kind to us but you would say as of today that the going is good to soft all the way round and no worse. If anything and we do have the snow followed by the rain it will ease the going.

We’ve been starved of racing this week and really looking forward to getting going again.'

audi1 - the only reason the COC is confident is so that racegoers won't make alternative arrangements for Saturday and give the racing a miss.
By:

When: 08 Feb 12 16:02
anybody who has any interest in racing would not want to risk missing the meeting  one thing he or the racecourse wont have to worry about if the meeting goes ahead and that is getting a crowd it will be overflowing with people. I think it will go ahead no doubht about it.
