just another point wen we arrived on the hill last year 2 ice cream vans and a big lorry that they could not move occupied about 6 pitches wat r epsom going to do if this happens this year they did f*ck all about it last year

I am surprised that Epsom felt the situation needed to change on the hill, and the line on the AGT site about failing to discharge their duties is very iffy - procedures have always been in place - but of course it is simply a way to extract more money from bookmakers. Minimum bids I hear are £150 plus £17 AGT charge. When everyone bids £150 chaos will ensue. The other days are not worth a light. Amazing how pitches are taken away from bookies who have bet in the same places for generations without thought nor concern. AGT are going to administer 10 betting rings and drive the crane, fair enough but why did anything else need to change? GREED...

If the supply and location of bookmakers does not meet the demand of the public there will be murders and the public will vote with their feet the following year. If the authotities think that bookmakers fees are too low why not just increase those fees and make any necessary changes without the proposed total revamp ?

bet on the hill for the last twenty years travelling early am from the north east .now im voting with my feet and as a lot of books will do north of watford will say fxxx it !!! not worth the hassle now imo ,,,

I decided that last year dave d. Didn't miss it either. This year I'm going to Haydock & Stratford. They can stick the hill up their backsides.

The idea of seniority as a basis for allocating pitches was established upon formation of the BPA. Prior to that pitches were organised by intimidation. The Hill has never come under the jurisdiction of the BPA and as such no seniority has been established that I am aware of. Seniority is the basis of tenure. The Hill has always been viewed as 'Wild West Country' and a bit of a throw back to the bad old days. Just my opinions, of course.

But seniority does exist, bookmakers dont just pitch up at random, there is a line allocated on the basis of history - usually the joint man outs you in your slot.

Seriority according to the joint man? The BPA using seniority as a basis for the allocation of pitches featured in legislation and that is where the tenure asises from. The Hill was never under the auspices of the BPA. I'm sure Robin, Keith and Mick Williams will know better than me.

I actually think the joint man has a list but could be wrong. Are thr umours that the old built up joints are no longer allowed under H&S. Will AGT be putting anchorage points in?

Wasnot, I will also be staying closer to home this year as I expect a lot of northern books will. I have the choice of four other meetings on Oaks and Derby day,so a good opportunity all the southern lads to bid low.

The Lonsdale enclosure was only made an enclosure in recent years it was the same as the Tattenham Corner compound,where the Brighton people bet or Shysters ally yet they recognised seniority there same as Lower Tatts when they brought in the buying and selling.

Don't know about the built up joints. Anchorage points a million imo. The won't put them in the silver ring at Ascot so unlikely they'll put them in on the Downs which is public land.

Whitmarsh, we all had the opportunity to apply for the Lonsdale. I was in the Walton Enclosure at the time and decided to stay where I was. At that point the Lonsdale came under the control of the BPA.

Years ago there were ring officials out there.I remember Bill Foreman who was the Chief ring official and a man who got a commendation for solving a murder getting a black eye off a punter in a dispute out there so I think the BPA might have been out there.A lot of members bet out there Derby day including committee men.
