I know...

But doesn't Betfair limit Exposure of that size?

How come you went full bank? also if the horse was still running surely it wasn't trading at 1000/1 even though Thommo is useless

Does he know what it cost you?

Report roida September 2, 2015 10:50 PM BST
you can change your exposure limit to what you want...i had 250,000 in account and was laying for £150 @1000...it went 1000 cos he said it had fallen so everything got wiped out momentarily..he no doubt was informed it some stage of the implications...i dont blame him..colours were similar...my fault for taking notice.

It won easy and I think the price was about 9/2

I did something like it myself I set up my computer to lay horses when they were at a price in running my price would be the next price laid

What happened was the next price was 100/1 and my bank went in one go agggggggggggggggggg

Afterwards I thought to myself what a c*** I should have only left a certain amount in my account at any one time so it could not clean me out

Through ownership I met the person who copped a significant part of the lay trade. He did post on here but has not done so for several years.

Total respect for Roida, if you have the self belief and a method and discipline everything is possible to bounce back from in betting and life in general.

In another life I taught people about self perception, how you see yourself, how to live easily in your own skin. Everybody can, and most people do bounce back from adversity.

Swifty, the Peregrine Falcon race was @ W'hampton !

A guy put a ''back'' in of £200 on horses entering the stalls ( the horse went off @7/4 S P, one of Bravehearts!).... some bright spark put up 999/1 because he thought P G's stall opened slightly slower... so the backer ''copped'' £200k instead of about £350 ish... reported in the R P..... one of the biggest ''live'' threads on here ! Kristian Strangeway runs the popular Koo's Racing Club - a horse racing syndicate based at trainer Brian Ellison's yard. He is also a professional punter who got his big break when he won over a quarter of a million pounds in one race on Betfair. That win took about five minutes to achieve but it took just a bit longer for Strangeway to lose the lot.

Strangeway got lucky on one race. He was lucky enough to be in the queue to snap up one of those crazy in running 999/1 bets. It was a 2m6f race at Thurles on the 8th November 2007 and it was a race where a commentator had mixed up the silk colours of two horses.

One horse fell and the commentator called the WRONG name as the faller. This had the effect of pushing out the price of the incorrect faller to 1000.0 on Betfair. Strangeway spotted the mistake and instantly backed the horse for £270. Of course, the 'faller' goes on to win and Strangeway nets over a quarter of a million pounds.

The first thing to note is that this is not really the modus operandi of a professional punter - this is just a case of profiting from someone elses error. It is not like taking money off other punters because they perceive a price to be X value and you perceive it to be Y value. This is a case of a mistake was made, punters were fooled, and someone walks away with the money.

There is nothing illegal or wrong with this type of bet and it is one which happens often on the exchanges. In running horses do sometimes win at 1000.0 and in running horse do sometimes lose at 1.01. Strangeway just happened to be wathcing the right race at the right time where the commentator was watching the wrong horse falling!
Report dustybin September 3, 2015 1:37 PM BST
