what do ya do though re the club hello that you hav followed since 70s - when i first went the club had wooden stands and its club shop was nothing more than a portakabin and even then it was politically motivated cos it was always a cash cow over anything else

with so many of so called big clubs struggling now may be time for fresh investment at toon it wont come form ashley , sucsess doesnt interest him only sales ,including pies as you say

giggilo was posting on the politics forum recently, I think.
Pro punters do do the placepot and other pool accumulators; there is a mathematical bias to be exploited. Works like this: In a field of (say) ten runners, where the fav is 2/1 and the others are 10/1, there would likely be an even distribution over the rest of the field while the fav would attract a disproportionately high % of the stakes; it being overwhelmingly the second choice in combinations. If the fav is unplaced, it turns a mathematical disadvantage into an advantage, and when it happens 3 or 4 times on a card very good dividends can occur. That seems to be part of the theory anyway - I have to say I'm unsuited to that way of betting, and never made a penny that way.  |

Giggilo still posts occasionally elsewhere, think poor health has stopped him posting regularly but is probably still the best analyst on the internet, yes we all know of his legendary post race stuff but its hard to argue with his pre race analysis a lot of the time.
Some recent efforts on same card. 22nd January 2020 Dancing rave 9/2 victor 4/1 hills It looks as though dancing rave may need a mile,was pulled in by stewards last time out,not quite sure why as was just slightly outpaced finished behind javelin and tomorrows favourite was probably a little better than that run,has first time pieces just hope they go quick enough as is best run was penultimate run when fourth in a better handicap at newcastle..Shamameya the favourite was second in the wolves race never got a clear run and comeback run after long lay off,the obvious pick and favourite,bint dandy veteran now is not a total lost cause a fourth over c/d off 69 in october and a third off 64 in decmber again over c/d and in this grade..A mark of 63 tomorrow,couldn't totally discount at 25/1. Dancing Rave won 7/2, Bint Dandy 2nd 10/1 Paddleyourowncanoe 11/4 victor/hills/ppower/sportsbook 3/1 generally 7/2 betfred Paddleyourowncanoe rated 140 over the sticks returns to the flat first run since 2017 852 days,didn't show a lot on the aw then was running off 59 and beaten,disappointing if can't run well in a poor race for horses rated upto 60 again three seasons on,top two in handicap amanto and nafaayes look decent ew alternatives. Paddleyourowncanoe W 11/4 3.55 Something lucky 11/2 victor Green door 8/1 victor Rarely win something lucky and green door anymore,green doors only won one race in last three seasons a seller in december,it looks like he's on downgrade but was only august when third to zac brown,recent form nowhere near as good third to chitra in this grade with something lucky a head infront..Both usually in the first four here,as long as decent pace to aim at obvious place chnces in this grade,cappananty con has same formline through chitra might try some speculatuve forecasts.. Green Door W 4/1, Something Lucky 2nd 7/2 3 winners and 2 2nds in 3 races,also 2 big F/Cs, others he put up for same meeting 2 came 3rd and the other 4th. All this race analysis is put up the afternoon before, when prices 1st come out, which if you are lucky enough to be able to get on is fine but usually ruins the prices for the rest of us, but don't think anyone can deny his ability to get to the gist of a race though. |

I can confirm much that that is posted on here. The placepot was a very popular "pro" bet which I made a living from between 1989 - 1993. There was a very successful group of us doing this near Epsom.
One reason was you could bet outside the pool but the really big one was you could make the 8 boxes per line into smaller boxes (4 or 8 per box) and have 30 selections in a race. That sounds mad but you would put fav in 10 times, second fav 4 times and cover the rest of the field. It was a little more complicated than that but you get the idea. The other thing was you could do 1p or sometime lower stakes allowing you to put in 1000's of selections. At the festival we would be able to lay out £500 to £800 on 1000's of selections knowing what ever the result you would get the pot in for 50p of the dividend. If fav's came in it maybe £2 or more...you just wanted the outsiders to come in. We won thousands some days but only lost a few hundreds if the results made the placepot £300 or less. I was told the bookies lost fortunes on the placepot in those days - that is why it all went into the pool eventually. |

I can remember doing a placepot at Market Rasen one Easter bank holiday, I had it up for £32 quid and thought I'd get a nice return, circa 1981 ish, it paid £1.50 !

I also had my most embarrassing gambling story around that time. There was a 19 runner race around a gaff track with an even money Pipe horse (which was a dog) so we put the entire field into the race. Trying to save a few pounds I removed the fav as I didn't fancy it all and also the two 100/1 shots. Of course I went out as the fav won by a furlong followed by the two rags. 16 selections out of 19 and went out a placepot.

i would agree with above , gig best ive seen on here regarding form and times , and real shame eejits wrecked the placepot thread it was definately one of best threads ever and if you were new like i was at time you learned an awful lot
put in a lot of work tbf but it paid off well for him i know that for a fact , very decent guy aswell |

Thanks sofiakenny, if I only get 1 place then I'll win. I quite fancy Pinch Of Ginger to run a solid race again but haven't punted it for the win. Good luck if you are having a punt in this race.

I do the placepots everyday, not a pro but do take it seriously since I retired.

About twenty years ago a retired couple used to go round the Scottish and North of England courses in a camper van with a Sky ariel on it. They basically only did the placepot with considerable success. I was quite friendly with them and they gave me quite a few racing books and a copy of the Raceform disc to evaluate. Sometimes son or son in law was with them but suddenly they stopped coming. I had their address and phone number but did not like to phone as I assumed that one had possibly died.
