think about it if a punter wants a 5k placepot ,any bookie would risk it,you instantly think ,single line,6 races ,and remember - you ve got eveidence that most fail ,i.e all the punters each day not getting it up.
the fact they did the bet out of pool tells you they think that your not going to get it up- so they did lay it,but not for long. |

![]() Btw going back to the original placepot topic. In about 92 or 93 I did the PP at Newbury at a Billies shop.A friend who worked there copied mine and placed it with an Indy. It copped for over £19k,the largest ever at the time,I collected without a problem but when my mate went to collect he was stunned. They had a limit on payouts for the PP and for his 25p perm he collected just over £400. A lesson learned for the future for him regarding checking rules and betting with small indies not placing into the pool. ![]() ![]() |

good luck giggs .............and i wont come out of retirement to take your placepots . you have given a fairly persuasive argument that it certainly can be lucrative to the professional

I almost lost a friendship with a manageress over the bet a couple of years back, they were taking place 6s she did me a favour for a few months by taking them and i never really had a touch till a freak dividend came up and i took them for 25k.Think the place 6 paid 6x the ppot and they didn't go in the pool as i was having £400 on a slip to any stake from pennies upwards, taken her two years to forgive me.
At the time i was doing them as i could see freak divis were coming up but they were so random it was impossible to predict why. |

By:
yes and therein lies the secret to it. you dont need many hits . not like betting odds on . one careful study in a massive roll over and being a pro , you would see things that other average or " mug" punters couldnt se in a month of sundays , that would give you an edge . Of course the problem that the book has is that it cant get out of it ...not like a running canadian for example . the book is stuck with it !!!
|
|
By:
Like you said, 22 years ago, you could have 1984@2p no problem. Then Hills cut everything. They increased the minimum stake unit and cut the maximum perm. Ended up in Sheffield you could have maximum of 4 lines per slip to 25p minimum units
|

By:
I still have 20,000 lines on now,not as often as i used to and that all goes in the pool.

ok i will refresh the grey matter -can you remember getting a big placepot up at Fakenham a while back -bearing in mind you dont normally do placepots over the jumps -unless of course they pay big -and for the record for any follower of this goon whilst he was a member of a forum i was involved with away from here he was not able once to come up with one of these gargantuan placepot returns that he claims on a regular basis before the event -true or not giggsy
![]() -heres another clue re Fakenham placepot -i was on Holiday at the time in Egypt -hope this helps |

I read a book once about pro punters, and I hope you don`t take this personly but with that mindset you will never make as a punter or otherwise, here is one chapter from that book,
what makes a pro punter differ from a average joe punter is this,1st the pro will be selective and I mean selective,2nd the pro punter will take winning and losing with the same grace, the average joe will get to caught up with the whole oh I have £100 on this fav and if it dos`nt win then i have to go and tell the wife I lost the shopping money, this leads to pressure,3rd the pro as soon as the gates only knows in his heart of hearts that he has chossen the horse on a system he trusts and he can do nothing about it now,the average joe is holding on tight to his docket willing the horse to win, putting pressure on himself,if it gets beat average joe will BLAME himself and go looking though the race to find a reason why he should`nt have backed the horse, while the pro will just say that was as strange race leave it there and move on,finaly and probally the best line from the book is this, the average joe will blame himself for lossing money, and human nature says I WANT MY MONEY BACK A,S,A,P,then all hell breaks loose and he will go chasing his losses which leads to cloudly judgement and stupid bets, while the pro will lay in wait for his next pray and then pounce on it and get all his money back and more, HERE LAYS THE GOLDEN TICKET, ![]() ![]() |
