Apparently the egotistical Oaf is currently appearing on yet another of those horrendous 'Reality TV' programmes.

This one being Coach Trip - a programme that I have successfully manage to swerve, so far.

However - at the very same time as that nonsense is being broadcast - and watched by the lower cell count of the populace - he is also 'representing RACING' on the BBC and SKY NEWS - and anybody else who will contact him.

What an arrogant, self-serving, [b] contrast
...
COACH TRIP - and the BIGGEST issue to hit RACING in decades.Sad

It's surely time for all factions of RACING to say ...

'You've had a good run Mac - and extorted  a good living out of the game - that to many, beggars belief'.

But sensible people in RACING can see straight through your 'split-personalty' - and, quite frankly, you have become an embarrassment ...

Be that either on a Coach - or, on the NEWS.

The vast majority in racing do NOT agree with your INSULAR opinions, and AGENDA.

why haven't the various racing channels he pedals his dirt for realise he is a massive own goal.He is a dinosaur and for mine has no place in modern broadcasting. He has done very well out of the game and his self promotion has no peers. However the time has come to say bye bye. If he in any way reflects a face or facet of modern horseracing then the sport will not grab any fresh young blood as followers or addicts.

Sir Peter

Comingupthehill, surely you must have realised that it is hard to respect people that want to foist their opinion on you without having the knowledge to know they are correct. If you are unsure about the facts on any topic you should keep your opinion to yourself,as you are not speaking in a correct way, just assuming. It's always the cold hard facts that count, not perception, not distorted views, but true knowledge on your topic.
When you are in a position of knowing what you are on about you get respect, when you don't know you get pulled up and, possibly, abuse.

the problem ,big business, bookies, the government do this all the time, they like me deliberately act thick(crafty daft),so they make a point ,but secretly they want to make that same point ,but for more sinster reasons.

you could try stating your case and have good reasoning behind your position ,so that us plebs can understand,

Completely agree with you comingupthehill, you should have been here yesterday. I dared to put across the other side of the argument and was set upon as a nutter ! I am still stunned so many here are pro wanting to hit a horse umpteen times despite all the press coverage about the whip doesn't hurt or do anything. If it doesn't hurt (absolute balls if you ask me)what's the jockey's big problem?

Imagine if you got up one day, felt a bit crap as many of us can, going out for a run and having something on our backs hitting us with a stick to make us keep going despite being knackered! We wouldn't be too chuffed, can't imagine a horse thinks it's great after trying their hardest.

What I took from yesterday was that too many people are stuck in their ways and can't handle change. They don't like the fact that they won't see driving finishes where whips are being used excessively, despite us all being told they don't actually hurt. I think this has a lot to do with people's habits not the rule changes as such.

I don't know what the answer is, perhaps a total of seven in the last furlong is correct, the prize money take away does seem excessive, but what happens if someone wins a big race breaking the rules while another jockey doesn't, where is fairness then. The runner-up is basically losing his chance of a big pot while the other takes the prestige of winning a big race, even if it means losing his money. No matter what the rules are, Group 1s are always going to be a source of such bans because I can't imagine that Tom Queally wouldn't have used more than his allowance in a driving finish if it meant Frankel's unbeaten career remained intact. The horse's stud value and place in history would be more important than staying within the rules on the day.

You don't need to be a horse welfare supporter to work out that a lot of the hype surrounding the whole issue is that plenty of people can't handle change. We've all seen jockeys over the years still win a race when dropping their whip in the final stages of a race, and we lorded them as amazing rides. Make it a rule and everyone goes nuts.
Report Celtic Son • October 16, 2011 9:13 PM BST
I'm still looking forward to the public cottoning on that the jockey's big problem is they want to hit a horse more, I am sure that will go down well with people who know nothing about racing.

Another typical pro-whip thread just slagging someone with a different view. As I said on the other recent thread I don't like him either but I happen to concur with most of his thoughts on this subject.

If he wasn't on the screens who else is offering the remotest bit of balance to the argument. That's right - nobody because RUK and ATR have produced nothing but pro-whip propaganda from the outset. Are they not foisting unsubstantiated opinions?

Report comingupthehill • October 16, 2011 9:25 PM BST
celtic, the real facts wont come out,its like i previouly posted ,theres private agendas and resons why they want to keep the old rules, and your jumoped on ,as they are deliberately on here to make sure their view and only their view gets listened to,it was so much easier when they owned the press/t.v,now this dam internet is allowing us peasants to dare voice our opinions, and unless you ve raced as a jockey you cant have a view.but surely everything jockeys do is so people will come and watch them, without an audience they ve got nothing ,and if the audience want less whips - then the jockeys have to do what the audience want ,telling the audience your all idiots and we no better ,so stay out of it isnt going to wash- frustrating for the people who are used to doing what they want, and never getting questioned about it,but if you want their money - youve got to dance to their tune,
Report Steamship • October 16, 2011 9:28 PM BST
Celtic- have you ever sat on a horse? I have no problem tweaking the whip a little, yes Kieran Fox hitting 11 times is crazy, but if the rule was 7 hits anytime in the race ok, I don't agree but ok. It's the way it has been implemented with the penalties. Paul Roy needs questioning over many things while he has been in charge of the BHA and yet, they treat the jockeys like naughty children. Answer this Celtic what happens if 2 horses are killed in the National this season, where do we go then? To use those that are against this rule as whip happy people is wrong.
Report onlooker • October 16, 2011 9:30 PM BST
All well and good, Celtic ...

But - the issue here IS -  McCririck being both seen by, and presented to, the General Public as the REPRESENTATIVE of RACING.

The Public see him as how he is portrayed by the TV NEWS channels - 'phone for a quote' Radio5Live - Talksport, et al.

They think and ASSUME he is the 'All knowing EXPERT' on ALL things Horse Racing - and, consequently believe whatever emotive outburst he spouts forth with.

Sadly - for RACING - that same General Public ALSO see him being obnoxious on Big Brother - Celebrity Wife-Swap - dressed only in his underpants, once, I believe, on some other non-descript afternoon 'show ... and now COACH TRIP.

How does that reflect on RACING?

His TWO Persona are NOT compatible ...

Certainly NOT to RACING'S benefit.

Steamship - have you ever run three miles across a boggy field carrying a proportion of your own body weight whilst simultaneously being 'encouraged' to give a little more by someone with a soft stick? I thought not so, using your own logic, you cannot venture an opinion.
Report differentdrum • October 16, 2011 9:34 PM BST
So the public's perception of Big Mac is important, but it's perception of whipping a horse isn't?
Report GEORGE.B • October 16, 2011 9:34 PM BST
I don't have a problem with McCririck giving his opinion on the whip to the general public - the problem I have is that it's the ONLY viewpoint put across to the public - and he paints a cruel picture, claiming that horses of being "beaten".

And the alternative viewpoint that the whip has been modified and is air-cushioned; there is scientific evidence to show there is no welfare issue with the whip; there is a penalty structure in place for jockeys who transgress the rules; and the whip is necessary for safety and encouragement (imo), is not being broadcast to given a balanced argument on the whip.
Report comingupthehill • October 16, 2011 9:34 PM BST

Report GEORGE.B • October 16, 2011 9:38 PM BST

Report Steamship • October 16, 2011 9:41 PM BST
Gerry once again you misrepresent me. I'm asking that because I think people need to be taught about the animals. Why bother following the sport or being on here if you have such a dislike for it? I take it that you have not just started following it this week. Just as Big Mac has made a good living on the back of this sport and he now sensationalises the usage of the whip and wants it banned. Also whon of the racegoers this summer want it banned most probably could not care less. If you have an issue with welfare of animals then get todays Express.
Report differentdrum • October 16, 2011 9:46 PM BST
George, as you are obviously familiar with it can you just give me an idea in a couple of lines - I assuming it is a little more substantial than the BHA have decided there isn't a welfare issue. If there wasn't a welfare issue there would clearly be absolutely no limit on how often you could hit a horse.

Apart from some sensationalist reporting over the few days after then I have not noticed falling attendances at the big meetings. Most people don't care so why are they changing things.

Gerry- I agree to many are in this for their own benefit with no long term thought. Its the way this has been represented over the week hat really gets me.
