ps Millingtons views are whichever views are beneficial to the Posta finances.

Is that allowed, maybe you should call Mr Millington an

d ask him if he will allow that comment on BETFAIRS(not the Racing Posts)forum.

He was mentioned on the Irish forum, the post lasted about 2 minutes.
I remember this gentleman carrying on a personal vendetta against Peter Aliss that was long and concerted, can give it but cant take it.

How come the only person to get a look in on "chatroom" is Graham Smith who is on every day with views that correspond to those of Millington ? Also how come the only sports letter published in an age (yesterday)praised Millingtons column. It is like living in the old Soviet Union !!!

The abuse of Peter Alliss as stated above was shocking. He just kept going on and on about it.
If a campaign of hatred like that was to take place against him quite sure he would not be a happy bunny.[:(]

Not really interested in his views. We know which side of the fence he sits and its not the readers and punters side.

What annoys me is that he can use his tiny bit of power to intimidate Betfair to censor reasonable views of its members. If he wants to censor the Posts comment, then thats up to him but why is this forum now censored by him.Betfair should remember its us who pay all their wages and make them large profits not Mr Millington.

If their is anything that goes too far(libellous),then remove that post. Why remove the whole thread.Grow some balls Betfair.

homefortea -  I wrote a well written and well thought out CHAT reply along the lines that Graham Smith seemed to be getting a lot of publishing space with few views to the contrary and surprisingly it wasn't published. He's had six post published in as many days.

As for Millingon it is a sad day when the editor of out ONLY racing paper takes that stance on the whip. Has he no idea what racing is about? It's about trying to win and nobody loves horses more than people in racing.  Stable lads and lasses love their horses more than their own family. Does anyone honestly think they would tolerate their charges being hurt.

of course they are hurt when the whip is administered. Otherwise the whip has no point. The issue is about what is acceptable. Some argue for no whip at all - a defensible position but not one I subscribe to. A reasonable amount of coercion is appropriate in my view. on that basis a line has to be drawn somewhere.

The jocks wanted certainty.

They've got it.

Still not happy.

The problem is them and the effect that this new rule has had in making trying and non trying more apparent. They don't like that.

Little sympathy for 'em.

I agree the Graham Smith character is taking the rise (quotes ferdy murphy tdy)- and for Ferdy to talk about jockeys being able to count, well lets face it there are 12 months in a year and most trainers can count to twelve, but some might say some months appear missing from the Ferdy calendar.

Surely there's no one left now that thinks that this newspaper is trying to do anything other than make its readers believe whatever propaganda suits it and its business partners best.

There was a reader voxpop on whether betting should be allowed in pubs yesterday (obviously this would take people away from betting shops).

Not a single reader included thought it was a good idea...

parispike - the whip does not hurt the horse - you have obviously never seen a whip up close or you would retract that immediately. Half ton animals are not humans. It's not like Mo Farah putting in a superhuman effort on the last lap to try and win a gold medal. They need coercion for the last few seconds of a race to get the utmost out of the animal before they go back to their 5 star lifestyles. If a horse doesn't want to do something it won't do it , whip or no whip.

Nothing contradictory about your post! You state that if a "horse doesn't want to do something it won't do it, whip or no whip" and also that horses "need coercion for the last few seconds of a race to get the utmost out of the animal..."

Here's the definition of coercion.....

Coercion (pronounced /koʊˈɜrʃən/) is the practice of forcing another party to behave in an involuntary manner (whether through action or inaction) by use of threats, rewards, or intimidation or some other form of pressure or force.
By:
bilbobaggins
When: 14 Oct 11 12:18
What's wrong with that Gerry - by using a foam covered whip to get a half ton animal to run as fast as it can for about 10 seconds which if it didn't want to do it wouldn't.

Don't cherry pick. Nothing contradictory at all.

He joined the RP as a pontificater on football, now it seems as an editor he is a pontificater of something else he has little knowledge of. The paper has a negligible circulation, so in reality who would take notice of a pipsqueak who is never normally seen anywhere near the racing pages in his own discredited rag.
By:

Dear oh dear Gerry - resorting to insults does not do your argument any favours at all. You know you're wrong so go to default position - insult.

I'm not wrong! You are the one saying that a horse won't do anything it doesn't want to do and yet in the same paragraph saying that the whip is used to coerce (force) them into giving their best.
By:
bilbobaggins
When: 14 Oct 11 12:33
Don't spit the dummy out Gerry. Perhaps I should have put it clearer for you. Even WITH the whip a horse will not do something if i doesn't want to do it. It is used by jockeys as a reminder to the horse that this is when it needs to try it's hardest. It doesn't hurt it .

How many times have you seen a jockey use a whip on a horse and it basically starts going backwards, i.e. telling the jockey he's not playing the game and that's not going to work on me. If it doesn't wan to go forward it won't. Jockeys can feel that under them.

No apology for the insult?
By:
Gerry Gallbladder

You make a cogent argument for dispensing with the whip altogether bilbo.

That's a no about the apology then?

I pointed out that you had contradicted yourself. I then educated you regarding the definition of the word 'coercion'. I'll apologise for suggesting that you're not dealing with a full deck if you thank me for my free tuition. Deal?

Cosy little club and the last peoples opinions they want is real punters.Which is why they are so anti this forum, as it is the only place real punters can tell the truth.

Let them manipulate and censor the Post as much as they like,it has become a laughing stock anyway. But Betfair dont let them control the comments on here or i will be off to purple and so will a lot of others.
