An average of 2 selections a day for the last 15 days or so and not one winner. I back all your selections to modest stakes (thank God).                  Is this 'cold' run likely to end soon ?  I'm almost broke !

---Well guys,I decided to quit betting completely about 3 years ago now --(health and wealth reasons)--ie. my nervous system was imploding, and my bank account leaking cash-----------however, I still find horse racing fascinating, and all the characters and stories that go to enhance it.-----and amazingly, I still read this forum at least twice a week !( love the cryptic humour that surfaces from time to time).  I have also been following the fortunes of various "media tipsters", and bearing in mind that most of them probably know about 100% more about racing than I do,they are generally a route to the poor house.------now this particular tipster, Hugh, seems like a nice genuine guy, and his write ups on his tips are very compelling, and obviously follow hours of research.etc-----------however, I'm fairly sure that he has now selected 28 consecutive losers, which is really scary for his followers. ----------If nothing else , it proves beyond doubt that too much knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing in this game, and its probably simpler to follow stables in form, or types of races that trainers like to target.( or colours, numbers, or horses with pretty faces !)-----------anyway, all the best to anyone I have chatted to in the past, and TAKE CARE !--David
Report corbiewood • September 29, 2011 10:26 AM BST
He beats the price 99% of the time, you follow him at top price you win long term to a % of the edge you beat the 100% to.

The mug mentality is prevalent on this forum and increases when said tipster goes on a bad run, however this is inevitable. You win long term if you beat the price to 100%.

Ratpacks 'list horse' on the other hand........

£324 profit 2010 and in profit 6 of first 8 months of 2011. Yep, he's rubbish alright and you are very shrood [:p]

(btw in judging him as a tipster, it is irrelevant whether you can get on or not.....the reason you cant get on is he's overexposed but the prices were available when selected...if anyone on here put up the same tips and a dozen of us all got on (which we could if it was only 12 followers) they would be the KING OF THE FORUM).

Duncan, I agree he is very good, but you could make a strong argument that ANYONE could make a profit if they were able to have unrestricted access to the prices on offer.

These days value isn't all that difficult to find for most punters, unless you are some clueless sleepwalker like Mfordy, but getting on, there's the rub...
Report duncan idaho • September 29, 2011 1:51 PM BST
Millhouse, i agree getting on is the big problem if you are any good but i cant agree that anyone could make a profit at mythical morning prices...there's at least 10 tv pundits and many more forumites that i would confidently back to make a healthy loss even with the unrestricted access you speak of!

The only price you can judge on whether he makes a profit, is the price you can actually get. When i gave it a try about a year ago. There was nothing on here, even if you got the tip the instant it comes on the website. With the bookmakers they instantly cut drastically, say 7s to 9/2,even if you did manage to get close to the price and beat SP they would quickly make your account unusable.Although he is very good and at the prices recommended which he could get himself,(no doubt he has a privileged journalist account)he must make a good profit. But i doubt punters who have to take the real prices can.
Report ged • September 29, 2011 5:30 PM BST
The very fact you can't get the prices proves he's good.

If he was crap, you'd have no problem getting the prices.

As others have said on here, his 'usefulness' to punters comnes from reading what he writes, not what he tips.

Report toronto44 • September 29, 2011 6:33 PM BST

Report corbiewood • September 29, 2011 6:39 PM BST
toronto,

If i had a brain like yours i wouldnt be 'trying' anything so mainstream as a free tipping line like you eloquently put in your above diatribe.

You ve displayed in all your inane ramblings in the past that you have completely no grasp of the mechanics of bookmaking, prices, percentages etc etc.

No matter how much you scream and shout, nothing will change this fact.
Report toronto44 • September 29, 2011 7:01 PM BST
No need to get yourself wound up corb

Everything you post on here you do for 2 reasons. One to show how smart you are, which you obviously cant be or you wouldnt still be a bookies runner at your age.Two to be a bookmakers mouthpiece for everything thats bad about the bookmaking industry.

Still you are always good for a laugh like anyone who thinks they know everything when really they are all mouthy gob with the IQ of a mosquito.

As for taking advantage of free tipsters.I will try to make money where i can, whether its my own thoughts or listening to a good judge.Learning from others and making money from it is clearly not your strong point corb.

The very fact you can't get the prices proves he's good.

Completely untrue. the fact that he tips a horse is of no interest to bookies. the fact that they are taking huge amounts of money for a horse is. if 5 thousand people jump on sids site now to back any 1 horse the price would be cut in the same way.
He is a very good tipster end of. the fact you cant get on is of no consequence to his profit and loss. you are best to have a look at his write ups and decide if you want to take a lower price or not. backing everyone at a lower price will just cost you money.
Report toronto44 • October 1, 2011 9:16 AM BST
Agree but bookmakers are not taking thousands of bets before they cut the price. They drastically cut the price before they take any bets.
Report millhouse • October 1, 2011 9:21 AM BST
Indeed a great judge, but it would be better for ALL punters if this column did not exist, imo...
Report ged • October 1, 2011 10:46 AM BST
robin - are you saying that bookies treat his tips the same way that they treat any other horse? - ie - that they don't cut the price, or restrict people, until they've had loads of money for it?

..and are you also saying that they would still be taking loads of money for his tips if they were crap?
Report zilzal1 • October 1, 2011 10:58 AM BST
I'll say it again, for the punter who likes to look forthe value the concept of Pricewise and other influential tipsters has been one of the worse things that can happen along with Oddschecker.

Do your own selections and bet the night before is one of the ways to go

In this world of quick and available information its here to stay and sadly there who those who like to be led by the todger along with those who cream their pants over a £25 arb

This is raised every bloody day, id prefer to read contributions reflecting on ideas rather than read a selection by someone

Ged...They know they are going to take shed loads of money. thats why they cut them. they know that if they cut the price and still take money on it that they can show a profit. they cant afford to lay say 50k at 33-1 when they are only going to take a tenth of that on the rest of the field.
