I asked in a forum chat last september the following question and the answer they gave is below.

Hello

Can you confirm or deny the rumours that you are to change the premium charge requirement to  25% instead of the current 20%
You will understand that failure to address the question will of course only ignite further speculation.

Yours

Biscar Two from a mile back

At present we have no plans to change it.

I seem to remember them doing a calculation of the PC v a flat rate commission. I think it worked out about 4%. That would benefit small punters but by the moaning on here would also suit PC payers. I suppose people on less than 4% but not paying PC would be hit.

Without doubt a disgrace even though I am not paying PC.

Out of curiousity, what happens in the case of multiple wins which are supposed to be 'tax free' which tax are they free of? All tax the 5% but should you win big you get shafted for 40%?

Never ending comedy this gambling 'malarkey' everything in bookies, casinos favour and that isn't enough!

Everybody keeps quoting 5% commission, but even I pay less than that and I am nowhere near paying the PC ( and I am in profit ). Surely people paying PC are nearer 2% than 5%. Betfair are going to take what they can get. As they are a public company they have a legal duty to run the enterprise for the benefit of their shareholders.
Possibly their calculations suggest they would be better off without the high-rollers who take money off the small players and possibly discourage them from staying involved.

Who will market make? Betfair themselves perhaps!
The lost liquidity will be devastating in certain markets and if betfair are going to start taking even more money directly out of the markets themselves they will be writing a suicide note.

Its not high roller gamblers that will suffer. Just people that win too often with their bets.

probably unlikely to affect the majority of the forum.
those that are affected have already been informed, yet most folk on here are complaining as if they have just found out from the forum posting, so unlikely that many of them are really affected.

some of those poor PC souls are now only going to make 200k or 300k per week tax free, so if I was them I'd rather stop betting here and go and try and make 10k per week somewhere else.

or they could just stay here and make a very good living with very little risk.

And all this begins from the 18th July, in just 20 days time. It appears they are in an almighty rush. I thought at worst they would have given you a months notice.

on the IPL this year the processing delay was insufficient, so hoovering was enivitable, this sort of pc structure encourages malpractice from bf, imo, and just saying you bet at your own risk is the thin edge of the wedge
