Afterthought.  Not sure the Bamfords have a great record spending lots of money on "hurdlers" from the flat. They spent £360k on that Goodwood syndicate hoss (Mirage??) off the flat. Did win but not much good.

What do you do with a £600k purchase that can't win a 5k Mussleburgh maiden hurdle where the top rated is 109?

The only surprise to me is that the usual lunatic Nico Bashers have not tried to blame him for getting beat on a horse that looks slower than a Trent Barge

His odds on shot for Friday might be balloted out! It would serve him right after persuading Southwell to put on a high prized race which was designed for one horse resulting in too many runners and potentially putting £25k in the hands of Willie Mullins. And to think that he could have run it in a low key race with no publicity against 4 opponents for £5k.

What about when the Mullins horse can’t get over because of choppy seas?

jimnast, re Kempton jumps. They are hoping that Nicky can save the track from the bulldozers so they would put on a whole card for him if asked. Still totally baffled by the Southwell race. Why would you give preferential treatment to an unraced maiden on the flat from a trainer who never goes there? Still don't fancy him at less than 5/2.

An enquiry was held into the running and riding of WESTLAIN (IRE), ridden by Lorcan Williams and trained by Jack Jones which hung badly left-handed leaving the start then being settled towards the rear of the field before being tenderly handled in the home straight to finish fifth of eight runners, beaten 20 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race and had nothing to report. The rider stated his instructions were to obtain a handy position and ride his race from there however he was unable to do so as the gelding was reluctant to jump off at the start, hanging left-handed surrendering his early position causing Williams to sit further back in the field than ideal. Williams explained that he had begun to improve his position leaving the back straight but felt WESTLAIN (IRE) was flat out before staying on at the one paced under hands and heels up the straight with the gelding having no more to give. The trainer was interviewed via telephone, confirmed the instructions given and was happy with the ride. Jones also added that in his opinion WESTLAIN (IRE) ran flat having previously run at Huntingdon 13 days ago on ground that was riding tacky and would likely be given a break following this run. Their explanations were noted.
