Tim Thompson Jones started off brightly as trainer and then suddenly disappeared.
K Stone I think remember had nags in his stable called Qualitair this and Qualitair that. |

By:
Mike O'Neill who trained Ayr Gold Cup winner Joveworth in 1989. Jimmy Fortune used to ride for him.

Ken Payne a shocking ommision. King of the Sellers and loved running his nags in Scotland. A true character of racing in seventies. Situation lodged well in my memory banks. Got a brand new Capri thanks to that grand old horse!

If you are of an age, you may remember Gardie Grissell, who retired in 2003, then handed over to David Feek his son in law, who then moved to Australia, so Gardie came back again, but now his wife Di has the licence. Gardie is still very active in the business.
Their best horse was Royal Stag who finished 2nd in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, when Barnbrook Again won it. Their stable is at Brightling Park, East Sussex, which is a nice place to visit, of itself. |

Smoky , had a horse with Gardie and just lived round the corner . Rode my horse up his woodland ascending gallop a few times , luckily it got steeper at the top . He and Di were charming and had a fabulous marquee open day , Its a glorious part of the world and you can see the sea from his gallops . I saw Di had a runner at Fontwell this year . Our horse Jack Fuller was moderate but won 4 races and named after local Hostelry and MP ' Mad Jack Fuller ' .

Oh wow, that's great.. I don't remember your horse at all unfortunately, but we saw old mad Jack Fuller's follies that he built, so we picked up on that a bit. glad you had a good time there, and yes it's a lovely place to be, I remember walking around the area. I can't say we were local but not too far away in Eastbourne, so Dunlop's, Gifford's, George Moore - within easy reach.. |

Delyth Thomas a shocking omission....
There were a few Welsh trainers that emerged on the coattails of Evan Williams and Tim Vaughan. They seemed to enjoy a lot of success initially (attracting some cynicism) before things quietened down and they seemed to disappear. The recently-returned Alison Thorpe and Keith Goldsworthy are two who come to mind, but I think there were a few others. Steve Gollings seemed to disappear almost overnight. I think his main/only owner pulled all of his horses out of the yard, but I could be wrong. Fred Kirby is a small NH trainer that I can recall from around 15-20 years ago. Allan Dickman on the flat. |

Not disappeared but Peter Chapple-Hyam..... I can't work out why he doesn't get more and better horses. Very talented trainer with a decent strike rate. You don't win a couple of Derby's if you don't know what you're doing!
