My wife knows nothing about racing.
I told her this afternoon's story and she almost in tears...wishes I hadn't told her |

check out Baddam career earnings.

As I said, his filly should have kept the race for the reasons outlined.
The story was of fairytale proportions and the right conclusion in light of the filly whom finished first past the post. Newmarket stewards = very very poor. |

NM's winnings over the last 7 years...nearly £230,000 before todays race.
By:
probs compensation?
By:
£230k over 7 years will not have covered the purchase fees and the bills for the horses he has had.
Must have had a few quid from the start - just wondered how he made this? |
By:
my mate said it was drug money. i suspect his compensation was quite high from germany. i've googled it and found nothing.
By:
compensation for the neo nazi attack which left hinm crippled?
By:
So could it have been drug money? If so...
By:
like a previos poster put it on another thread earlier, why does no one ask the same question about david johnson and any other big owners , pretty sad really just a matter of cicumstance, and i am in no way aiming this at you sir talbot just assumptions that many people will make

pox doctors clerk ....
what a wonderfully evocative name |

glad you like it scuttle

I guess questions are asked because he was a construction worker in germany when he was attacked.
By:
Agree - I just read he was a construction worker too. I am not in any way pointing the finger or whatever. To the other poster, I have looked into other owners who interest me...always liked the Andy Stewart over the sticks so had a look at where he made his wealth.
Just there's nothing on the chap Martin. |

Shocking! Just cos he is a Jamaican. |
By:
I guess in my own mind, I wanted to substantiate if this was an near as we're going to get to a rags to riches story, has his horse won - or whether he was seriously minted and where today's win wouldn't in real terms have made a blind bit of difference.
By:
guys had it tough............deserves every bit of luck........pity about today but probably the right decision
By:
I thought he was British but born in Jamaica.
By:
Not the rigth decision - how stupid are people?!?
Watch racing day to day - this sort of incident happens at least once a week and as per owners comments today, results are never altered. It is complete and utter bowlacks - logical decision would have been places unaltered, jockey 3 day ban. Not rocket science, not difficult. Stewards a complete fking joke. |
By:
in the minority there ...right result imo.
By:
correct talbot , i thought it was a complete travesty too, if the horses had finished the other way round then i doubt very much the same would have happened
By:
and in the same circumstances, meant to say
By:
I am not in the minority - how stupid are people?
Watch racing, day and night, UK and Ireland - this incident happens not quite day in and day out but almost certainly 1/2 a week - NEVER does a result get turned over. I would say today's switching of result represents about 1 in every 25 decisions. Therefore, not representative of the day to day reality. What do we want to do boys? Have ponsey results for ponsey races to make ourselves look good globally? Or do we want consistency? I for one am all about the latter as this is the only way to breed credibility. |
By:
pox doc
why do you think the stewards would not have reversed their decision if the french horse had won in the same circumstances? |
By:
dont think i have to spell that out billy
By:
surely yr not suggesting the stewards pull out info on the owners to influence their decidion
By:
so rather than let the nicest man in Newmarket who everybody seems to love keep the race, they stripped him of the victory because of the owner......... in favour of the French??????
By:
moonbats are amongst us
By:
bumped the 2nd and carried across the track ..btn a nose with the winners jockeys whip in the wrong hand..............easy decision id say
By:
imo he should of kept the race,i remember when i backed rhinestone cowboy in chelt bumper an pizzaro bumped him nearly of track an he still kept the race!
By:
Its not a case of nice owner, Cecil, French Jenny Pitman and an Arab - it's about CONSISTENCY.
It's about when this next happens in a £1.5k claimer round Lingfield keeping to this letter - if not, then the system is a complete fking mockery. I would suggest, as previous, this kind of overhaul happens 1 in every 25 of these cases. In this instance what do we go with? Do we go with the 24 examples of that 25, or the 1 just to make us look good in the eyes of the International racing community? For me, the outcome was completely non sensical. |
By:
CD...........2 wrongs dont make a right
By:
That's right cardiff, and that's where the masses are completely divvy on this one.
The majority of the time the result would have STOOD. Not about wrongs and rights, it is about CONSISTENCY - its about being as CONSISTENT as possible in day to day decision making. How can people not get this?!? |
By:
I backed SD and im still not 100% convinced that he would had won without being bumped.

so rather than let the nicest man in Newmarket who everybody seems to love keep the race, they stripped him of the victory because of the owner......... in favour of the French?????? in favour of the French or poor old Prince Khalid? |
By:
Well said Sir Talbit , was there today and noel was very distraught. You see that kind of interference all the time and the result is never reversed. Sariska at Epsom , Ajaan a couple of seasons back at newmarket were far worse cases.
By:
Sir T
I completely agree that consistency is the name of the game. I also think that under the regulations that apply the stewards made the right decision. I do not watch as much as racing as you but have seen a similar incident happen over jumps and the result reversed, but I bow to your experience in that it happens one or two times a week without the result being changed. To convince me (and I am not being cheeky and anyone can answer) could you give me an example and I will watch a replay (will have to be an ATR meeting though) as I was of the opinion that stewarding had become more level. I must stress that I am not being facetious but would like to see an example - thank you Billy |
By:
there is no consistency in any sport at the min that is the prob ST i was just pointing out a e.g with that rhinestone race but that day he should of won but didnt get the race in stewards room then today similar thing an horses are amended joke imo ,but its same in football, rugby etc its ruining the sports imo

This is why this bowlacks about the LETTER OF THE LAW is indeed complete and utter RUBBISH.
The law is applied day in day out, from Ascot to Wolverhampton - today's decision was massively INCONSISTENT in the context of those decisions that are made daily. This is where the TRAVESTY lies. If I were today's owner, I would scour back over every race of the past 12 months and probably find 50 instances of interference like todays, within which there will be 1/2, maybe 3 reversal of finishing order MAX. Might get it on appeal if he can get the manpower to carry out this task, or atleast prompt a debate at a higher level into ironing out our laws of racing so as to make them C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-T! |
