William Knight, just on racing uk, said that King of Dixie had been gelded last year when he was a five year old and it had improved him. It is about time we knew when horses have been gelded. Trainers have to declare blinkers, visors etc, why not this, which could be crucial.

I am sorry, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Of course I know whether a horse has been gelded by looking at the card, but what I cannot tell is when they have been gelded. King of Dixie was a six year old horse, how I am to know it had only been gelded recently and this was the first run after? Most horses are gelded when they are two, three and four - not six! Horses improve for being gelded so we should be told when it is the first time that it is running after being gelded.

Perhaps if you leave you mobile # with Weatherby's they'll arrange to text you with each and every knackers removal, wind op, successful cover, etc? Will save you doing any research yourself. |

The ex-William Haggis horse, Conquest, apparently took an awful long time to come back to himself after his gelding operation.

Haven't subscribed for a while, but black book used to state "has been gelded".
Why would you want to check an entire(?) card for new geldings? Still, takes all sorts I suppose. |

Cider, his trainer said he had improved for the operation and he should know. Shame we did not hear this before he ran and won. Although I do not expect the trainers to tell us if they have improved, that would be most unlikely, it would be nice to know that they could potentially have improved by telling us that they have recently been gelded.

Crawford, yes I would like to know when they have had a wind operation as well. As for doing the research myself there is no sources from which to find this information easily.

it would be simple enough to put a 'g' in the place where they have blinkers or visors. this could also be kept in the formbook and then it would be clear to see when a horse had been gelded

Definightly was another I believe was gelded since last season. again can't see anything in racing post about it. why should someone have to read the racing post trainer comments or timeform comments to find out anyway. a simple letter next to the weight is easy enough.

Won twice on all weather early this season off 107 when race conditions suited and now 105 after finishing close fifth of eight to Premio Loco last run May 30 over a mile at Goodwood. "He's been on a mid-season break and we've also gelded him to get some weight off because he's a big horse. There had been soundness issues and this should give me a better chance. He's a lovely horse that is more than capable of winning a stakes race and I'm getting him ready for October. I feel a mile is now better than seven. Doesn't want extremes and genuine good ground is ideal." |

"King Of Dixie seems in good order and I'm just hoping the ground isn't too fast for him," said Knight. "We had him in at Lingfield on Friday but I just thought there wouldn't be many runners at Ascot and it's a good prize so I thought it would be a good starting point to the year for him. "He was third in the Victoria Cup at Ascot so hopefully he'll run well. "He's had a few problems and isn't the soundest of horses so you've just got to chose your races carefully with him. "He's a big, scopey horse and we've gelded him now to try and stop him carrying so much condition." |

Thanks, jmc, but I usually do not have the time to look at the spotlight comments. Most of what is said in spotlight is in the form, so I would rather spend my time looking at that. In an ideal world of course I would look at the comments as you can find some good nuggets of information such as this, but I do not have the time. This information should be in the form for all to see.

You said you read the RP every day and just check the form well over its form you will see King Of Dixie (USA) 6-y-o (07Apr04 ch g) Tells you all you need to know. Not trying to be harsh but your not really putting much effort in |

jmc27, I am afraid it is you that is not putting the effort into reading this thread properly. I am asking that the information that a horse has been RECENTLY gelded be put into the form, the same way as blinkered first time or visor first time. Of course i can read the form and see it has been gelded, do you think I am stupid, but nowhere does it say WHEN it was gelded.
