William Knight, just on racing uk, said that King of Dixie had been gelded last year when he was a five year old and it had improved him. It is about time we knew when horses have been gelded. Trainers have to declare blinkers, visors etc, why not this, which could be crucial.

do they not have to tell Weatherbys ?
Report Stark May 1, 2010 2:25 PM BST
Just check if it says "c" or "g" on the racecard.
Report Rider May 1, 2010 2:26 PM BST
the operation was public knowledge, not disclosing the improvement for it, well thats racing, as the time thieves would say, you dont have to bet

Bo11ocks really...

..or not?
Report annie. May 1, 2010 2:34 PM BST
I am sorry, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Of course I know whether a horse has been gelded by looking at the card, but what I cannot tell is when they have been gelded. King of Dixie was a six year old horse, how I am to know it had only been gelded recently and this was the first run after? Most horses are gelded when they are two, three and four - not six! Horses improve for being gelded so we should be told when it is the first time that it is running after being gelded.
Report Stark May 1, 2010 2:36 PM BST
Check Timeform?

"Horses improve for being gelded"

Not all of them.

Don't they note those who've been gelded since last run in the RP signposts table?

Perhaps if you leave you mobile # with Weatherby's they'll arrange to text you with each and every knackers removal, wind op, successful cover, etc? Will save you doing any research yourself.
Report ALLWEATHERKING May 1, 2010 2:41 PM BST
only one daily source of 'gelded since last run' imo.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 2:41 PM BST
Cruithne, the information is not is signposts.
Report 3753 Cruithne May 1, 2010 2:42 PM BST
The ex-William Haggis horse, Conquest, apparently took an awful long time to come back to himself after his gelding operation.

Understandable though tbh!
Report Cider May 1, 2010 2:43 PM BST
I realise it's not the point of the fred, but extremely debatable that King Of Dixie has improved for the cut.

'Check Timeform?'

What? For every horse?!
Report Stark May 1, 2010 2:56 PM BST
Haven't subscribed for a while, but black book used to state "has been gelded".

Why would you want to check an entire(?) card for new geldings?

Still, takes all sorts I suppose.

is?
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:19 PM BST
Come on, allweatherking, where is this source of information - pretty please :)
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:21 PM BST
Stark, I would not want to check a card just for new geldings, but I certainly would want to take it into account.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:24 PM BST
Cider, his trainer said he had improved for the operation and he should know. Shame we did not hear this before he ran and won. Although I do not expect the trainers to tell us if they have improved, that would be most unlikely, it would be nice to know that they could potentially have improved by telling us that they have recently been gelded.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:27 PM BST
Crawford, yes I would like to know when they have had a wind operation as well. As for doing the research myself there is no sources from which to find this information easily.
Report jmc27 May 1, 2010 3:29 PM BST
Was printed in black on white in the Racing Post the other day. There for all to see so you really have nothing to moan about tbh
Report Stevie Gerrard May 1, 2010 3:34 PM BST
it would be simple enough to put a 'g' in the place where they have blinkers or visors. this could also be kept in the formbook and then it would be clear to see when a horse had been gelded
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:43 PM BST
Exactly, stevie, it can have g', like b' for the first time it runs after gelding.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 3:45 PM BST
jmc27, I read the racing post every day and I did not see it. Can you tell me where this information was?
Report Stevie Gerrard May 1, 2010 3:51 PM BST
Definightly was another I believe was gelded since last season. again can't see anything in racing post about it. why should someone have to read the racing post trainer comments or timeform comments to find out anyway. a simple letter next to the weight is easy enough.
Report ALLWEATHERKING May 1, 2010 3:54 PM BST
annie as you asked so nicely: daily express under analyser. consistently throws up winners.

Thanks, allweather, although as I do not buy the express it is going to be difficult to find out! However, I will have a peek at it and maybe buy it in future. Thanks again.

ATR site Bill Knight stable tour Aug 2009

KING OF DIXIE
5 ch g Kingmambo - Dixie Accent.
Lightly raced but talented seven furlong/miler winning three times last over former trip moving from 90 to 109. Won twice on all weather early this season off 107 when race conditions suited and now 105 after finishing close fifth of eight to Premio Loco last run May 30 over a mile at Goodwood.
"He's been on a mid-season break and we've also gelded him to get some weight off because he's a big horse. There had been soundness issues and this should give me a better chance. He's a lovely horse that is more than capable of winning a stakes race and I'm getting him ready for October. I feel a mile is now better than seven. Doesn't want extremes and genuine good ground is ideal."
Report jmc27 May 1, 2010 4:13 PM BST
Heres the Sporting Life preview from the other day too

"King Of Dixie seems in good order and I'm just hoping the ground isn't too fast for him," said Knight.

"We had him in at Lingfield on Friday but I just thought there wouldn't be many runners at Ascot and it's a good prize so I thought it would be a good starting point to the year for him.

"He was third in the Victoria Cup at Ascot so hopefully he'll run well.

"He's had a few problems and isn't the soundest of horses so you've just got to chose your races carefully with him.

"He's a big, scopey horse and we've gelded him now to try and stop him carrying so much condition."
Report annie. May 1, 2010 4:17 PM BST
Thanks, jmc, but I usually do not have the time to look at the spotlight comments. Most of what is said in spotlight is in the form, so I would rather spend my time looking at that. In an ideal world of course I would look at the comments as you can find some good nuggets of information such as this, but I do not have the time. This information should be in the form for all to see.
Report jmc27 May 1, 2010 4:23 PM BST
Annie tbh all you have to do is click the horses name on any racing site and his details come up.
You said you read the RP every day and just check the form well over its form you will see

King Of Dixie (USA)
6-y-o (07Apr04 ch g)

Tells you all you need to know. Not trying to be harsh but your not really putting much effort in
Report annie. May 1, 2010 4:29 PM BST
jmc27, I am afraid it is you that is not putting the effort into reading this thread properly. I am asking that the information that a horse has been RECENTLY gelded be put into the form, the same way as blinkered first time or visor first time. Of course i can read the form and see it has been gelded, do you think I am stupid, but nowhere does it say WHEN it was gelded.
Report Cider May 1, 2010 4:30 PM BST
annie. wants to know when they are gelded. ie you can see the difference between horses' runs with and without blinkers or blinkers first time, for instance.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 4:32 PM BST
Thank you, cider, at last someone has understood the thread, as well as allweather king and stevie gerrard.

As if, after betting on horses for several years, I do not know the difference between a colt and a gelding. :)

I get exactly what she is saying she wants information spoon feed and wrote on the card all Im saying is her first complaint about the trainer was way off the mark, I even posted a stable tour from last year which tells the details and if she put some effort in she would have easily have seen all the info about King Of Dixie on the day of the Ascot race in the Racing Post she bought. Thats my 2 cents :) I think the whole thing has gone over your heads tbh
Report annie. May 1, 2010 5:37 PM BST

I did not complain about the trainer, only the situation whereby we do not know when a horse has been gelded.

Why should I, if I had the time, have to wade through stable tours, trainers comments and spotlight comments for every horse on every card on every day for this simple information that could be indicated by a g' where we currently have the b' and the v' ? Anyway most of the time this information is not there anyway, so there goes your idea.

What is wrong with spoonfeeding us information? If you are so stupid that you like getting this information the hard way then there is no hope for you.

Classic line well lets see the difference I backed the horse and I knew he was gelded.

You found out days later after buying a newspaper on the day that had it wrote in two different sections and you think theres no hope for me and Im stupid hahaha.

You would be better off enjoying a pass time like knitting Annie tbh.

You are stupid because you have completely missed the point of this thread. The thread is about being able to see WHEN a horse has been gelded in the FORM. Not in stable tours, trainers comments, spotlight comments etc. As stated before even if you had the time to read all of that this information is usually missing anyway.
Report annie. May 1, 2010 6:02 PM BST
It is pastime, by the way :)

annie. - I fully agree with your suggestion. I am a fan of King of Dixie but, for much the same reasons as you have given, I did not realise he had been gelded. As you know, a gelding is bodily lighter than a colt and needs less work to reach racing condition. Geldings are tough, reliable and usually consistent. You may have heard of the much quoted comment over the years from the late trainer R J Colling who said "If I had a stable full of geldings, I'd get the bookmakers on the run".
Report annie. May 1, 2010 8:12 PM BST
Thanks, newsouth, I was beginning to think the racing forum was full of idiots.

It was a race I do not usually bet on, just four runners I think. However I thought king of dixie had a chance but was surprised he had been well backed. When he won I looked at his form again and again although he was good I did not understand the extra interest. So when william knight said that today it all fell into place.

It has been a longstanding annoyance with me that so much that is of interest to us is denied to us. Wind operations, pregnancies, recent gelding operations etc. And, unlike several forum posters, I do not have the time to read umpteen pages of the racing post to MAYBE find this information out. It should be in the form, just like declaring blinkers etc.

Racing for change is always bleating on about going racing but it is us punters that keep the show on the road. Instead of spending on all this 'change' they should first put their own house in order. We have to drag concessions out of them, like pulling teeth.
