As the Racing For Change week is here can we all please make a concerted effort to stick to proper EW terms, dress smartly, be polite and approachable and make the betting ring a place that people want to come back to?
There are going to be a lot of newcomers attending racecourses for the first time this week and it offers and ideal opportunity to show people what a good fun day out racing is and then hopefully they will want to come back.
Think long term of the future of all of our businesses during this unique week.
Also on my wish list is to see a real live Dodo and frankly I think I've more chance of that one coming true.

YES..and bookmakers forming their own opinions rather than follow the machine.
Was at Ripon yesterday and virtually every price on every board was the same. ALL PUNTERS ARE NOT ARBERS If your books dictate that you can go a 1/2 or a full point above the excahang price then do so... LAY ALL YOUR £5IVER, £10ENNER and £20WENTY CUSTOMERS!!! Turn away the arbers and traders who come in with the bigger chunks. AS WELL AS HAVING A MINIMUM STAKE HAVE A MAXIMUM STAKE TOO HAVE AN OPINION and become A BOOKMAKER!!!!! |

Gone are the days when......." punters are coming up out of the ground with a monkey in each hand" to bet on course.
Its mainly a fiddlers market these days. Mondays evenings at Windsor still good, Tuesdays are a waste of time. Sundays only attract the 50p. e/w merchants. |

Ideally AD yes, but as the majority do as you do it would be unrealistic to ask (and the mathematics of 1/4 1234 is all wrong anyway but thats another story). I would hope not to see 1/6th odds this week, particularly from the individuals who think its ok to do it every race. Racing outsiders often view us with trepidation - lets convince them we are the honest trustworthy hardworking professionals that the vast vast majority now are.

ribero1 - with the exception of Goodwood where all the tickets (10,000) have gone, they have said they dont expect anyone to be turned away if they arrive without a voucher. Presumably they will have them at the turnstiles, like I know they are at Huntingdon.

Free racing week gets under way on Monday By Jon Lees 5:32PM 25 APR 2010 A PIVOTAL week for Racing For Change, the project tasked with broadening the appeal of horse racing, gets under way on Monday with the first of nine race meetings over the next six days to which the public can go for free, in designated enclosures. Up to 30,000 people have signed up online to take up the free racing week offer, which is launched at Monday's meetings at Towcester and Wolverhampton. The fixture at Towcester will differ little from any other race meeting at the venue as its management have pioneered free racing, but among those visiting the other participating tracks, which include Ascot, Doncaster and Goodwood, RFC hope there will be many who will be new to the sport to whom they can sell the horse racing experience. It is using the opportunity to road test a number of consumer friendly initiatives such as a new display of photo finishes on the big screen, improved racecards and racecourse announcements, but the most notable will be a first trial of decimal odds in the betting ring. A team of market researchers will be dispatched to every racecourse to record the responses of racegoers. "It is an important week for Racing For Change," said RFC project director Rod Street. "This is a UK-wide initiative. It involves an awful lot of consumers and that is at the heart of what Racing For Change is about." Goodwood has sold out its allocation of free tickets to Saturday's meeting but those who turn up at any of the other eight fixtures having not completed an online application are still expected to be allowed in. "I doubt very much they will be turned away, the exception being Goodwood which is fully subscribed in the free enclosure," said Street. How many "New Racegoers" will be back, after £8 a time for burgers, £2 a can of coke and find afterwards that any bets they had in these free enclosures are a point under the odds.
Mind you, noted lately, a lot of people now have iphones or the like, so have access to bookmakers accounts on-line and can see the latest main ring prices....they are a lot more savvy than in years gone past. No matter how many initiatives, racecourses with their greed culture will always be a rip-off !! |

Haydock Sat Night.....At the other end of the Tatts Ring Bob Hughes,
and Terry Higgins were 1/4 the odds 1st 4.Most of the others were 1/5th.This part of the ring caters mainly to the Coach trippers who are new to the game,and those who came to see The Bootleg Beatles,who were very good,go see them if you get the chance.Better value than e/w terms offered by some people. |

The world is full of arbers i tell theeee, we are all doomed, fffs its bookies jargon for punters with brains ( i dont blame them for not wanting to play with certain punters, i wouldnt either) but this arber nonsense is just that NONSENSE!!!

not EVERYONE who bets more than £100 are arbers lads..

i see goodwood are as pro bookmaker as ever,on saturday the silver ring is closed but they will allow people in if the overflow in tatts is to big,silver ring books are welcom to turn up but must pay the tatts price for the badge.

if the fields are small at wincanton tuesday i might go to nottingham,ascot wednesday i think i will miss as i am back down south on thursday for 5 days,none of the others i will be going to.it will be a hard choice for those who have picks in tatts at newmarket and goodwood saturday.

personnally speaking i think after this week it will just revert to normal ..congratulations to people who show ideas and iniatative and i hope it sincerley works for you ,well done to goodwood and ascot but when theses new folk see the price of a burger and a bottle of water im sure that will have a lasting effect in the way there there pocket thinks....well done to huntingdon because they seem to be trying harder in the last 12 months than previously ,also the same goes out to nottingham who only charge a tenner to get in and now there opening there gates for free ,the other 40 odd tracks should hold there heads in shame ....good luck guys to one and all
