Doesn't like going right. Ground not right for him. Just ran a big race at Cheltenham. I think not. Probably needs a summer holiday.
He Seemed ok last month. He didnt enjoy going Right today

to be honest a could never bet denman but winning the gold cup on bottomless ground was awesome
He can only win handicaps now, best keep running him in top level races to see if they can get a few lbs off his mark for the Devon National next year, or maybe the Midlands won if the ground is soft enough.
If it is the end you can blame connections. Aintree last year - shouldn't have run. Newbury this year in race he unseated - no need to run. Punchestown today - certainly shouldn't have run. You're talking about a horse with a heart murmur, who needs soft ground, and who runs himself into the ground...

I don't think we should be too hasty to right Denman off.
But I think the owners and trainer got this wrong, they should have let him rest after the Gold Cup...

Wel mike,I've just written Denman off.He'll be eleven next year.
johhny, i sort of see where u are coming from but its a racehorse so its entitled to run now and again.to call denman an outright dog is of course unfair but hes certainly becoming unpredictable. i think its fair to say he looked a bit mulish before the race and whilst capable of very very good runs hes becoming increasingly liable to underperform. one things for ure hes certainly not a horse to back at a short price.how could you price him up next ime he runs. he produced possibly the best performance by any horse in the henessy, followed by a poor run when btn at 1/8, next he runs a cracker in the gold cup and then today hes run below par.put it this way i wouldnt be backing himever at a short preice.

Denman won 15 of his first 16 races (2nd in the other one). He has now won once in his last 7 races. He looked reluctant at times and ran in snatches today.

After running possibly his best ever race in the Hennessy, Ruby said "I'd love to put some blinkers on him."

Why retire him, just run him in the right races. Horses are not machines no matter what he had in hand you will find that he did quite well today on a course and ground he did not like.
What a load of clowns you all are, Denman totally different clsss, dosent go right handed Kempton run should have told all you judges that. Would have won a distance on any left handed track these other horses wouldn't live with him

There were scary similarities between his run today and Best Mates final run at Exeter.
There's not acting right-handed and there is downright mulishness and Denman's increasingly erratic displays make it difficult to have a bet in anything he runs in next season (assuming he will never go right-handed again).
Reports of him becoming more difficult to handle at home follow evidence from some racecourse gallops that he has shown reluctance to keep galloping. Add to that Ruby's recommendation of blinkers after winning the Hennessy on him plus his awful crash into that fence to unseat AP and you have a horse who can win most staying chases when he feels like it or just as easily throw them away.
I thought at one point today he was actually trying to run out and might well have done so with a lesser jock than McCoy. I recall taking 66/1 against him refusing in the 09 Gold Cup and you can be sure those odds will be much reduced if he turns up there in 2011

After reports of him taking months to recover after his GC victory, I suspected he would never be the same again - whether his problem is physical or mental, who knows, but I very much doubt he's enjoying his racing.

Don't see anyone slating Barber's Shop & Notre P's performance - both top class horses too - or for that matter Cooldine.

Probably didn't have conditions to suit today, but frankly hasn't seemed the same horse since his heart scare, which is understandable... .
Oh dear. Looks like a lot of the idiots on the 'denman' thread have moved to the 'denman the end' thread.
There are still plenty of races to be won with him, but my feelings are that he is on the decline. That is not solely based on todays run. I would love to see him be aimed at the Grand National and totally miss out Cheltenham next season.
The fact the horse managed to finish as close as he did shows he still retains plenty of ability imo. He looked really wel behorehand but clearly wasn't impressed by going right handed,would've won by easily against the same opposition going left handed. Far from the end, only 6 weeks ago it took an awesome performance by Imperial Commander to prevent him from retaining the GC
Regarding his run at Cheltenham, he had everything in his favour, even Kauto Star was out the picture and he could work himself clear. Although a good effort, I believe it was well below what he had shown in previous years.
