Aintree 2nd
Punch 3rd

Dont think anyone has ever compared it to cheltenham, why do people except it for what it is a half decent festival plenty of good horses on show just sit back and enjoy

not as good as Cheltenham but nothing else is either - Punchestown is a great festival, good racing, good crowds and a great craic

For atmosphere and the craic Punchestown would be no.1 but Cheltenham is the daddy for racing.

Easy answer tbh , gamblers who are not having a particularly good time of it will diversify and start comparing everything thus making excuses with a negative head , those who follow the sport as well as being an active punter take each meeting at face value and accept everything for what it is , a positive head.

This forum contains an obscene mixture of both but a general observation would indicate a heavy bias towards the negative mentality.

'mental' is more apt - imo

actually not having a bad time of it at all and watching the racing just saying like all gonna end up same in end so no point losing sleep about the inevitable

when's it on?

worst thing about punchestown is if you want to avoid the bumpers its a long hike and taxi ride to naas for a drink

Spot on duncan, a bit like deciding Stella tastes better than Bud from watching adverts.

i amsure the locals enjoy it and dont all the local hoi polloi turn out for ladies day but starting halfway through the afternoon cant be that great either,there seems very little festival atmosphere there today and surely 5 days is too many for any festival?in answer to the original question,no i dont care about it but im sure plenty of irish do so good luck to them.

Isnt punchestown better than all the flat racing thats on at present, its a better meeting than aintree and fairyhouse

Went a few years ago - thought it was great - No......absolutely brilliant in fact.......... just the travelling that puts me off.

Never back at this Festival. Its more like an afterthought and form seems to get turned upside down.

It is a strange one having the 3 major NH festivals in such a short period of time
