lol how many punters knew that. i was there very few knew which way round they were going.

very messy by the end of the day. when will these woman realise it is april in scotland not july in the south of france.

Was carnage for the 3 books i spoke to,they had given up after the National.Everyone was wanting to lay Merigo ,it looked far to short ,how wrong could they be.

i actually backed merigo for a few quid :) but on here(mind you backed 3 others too). even i was surprised it won tho. can't have been an awful result. gone to lunch placing not great i assume but surely no bloodbath. friday must have gone ok for them too? mind you 4 scottish trained winners.

are bookmakers prone to exaggeration? surely not?

And we weren't ALL 1/5th the odds in thw scottish National. Try looking around a bit! :D

All bookmakers should be made to bet to regulation place terms on course, that should be a priority for thr racing for change people then punters would not get stiffed by the**bookies

It is because most punters haven't a clue that bookies should be far heavier regulated, to be fair most ring bookies are doing a good job and just want to make a living like anyone else, it is the bad bookies, the big office bookies who manipulate the markets and the hordes of unliscenced tipsters that blight the game. imvho of course

result last race 5s into 3s,only six favs today.Cant wait for hexham tomorrow!.On a positive note perth for the craic!

i had seen the rabbit betting at a trotting meeting 7-8years ago he was standing horses for a nice few pound then i seen him at kelso a year a go with an old bloke on the computer,i think he was a failed bookie and he was stoping rabbit from laying bets, mite of been the old blokes cash.

must have been very good in the new betting area round by the paddock.
No 1 in tatts took No 1 pick both days.

further, a gutless crew of bookmakers who do not stand up to the track when it moves the ring en bloc to earn itself more cash and sets a bad precedent country wide. sure i'dlike to bet on the 4th floor at Ascot, but it would kill the existing ring.

only problem with that truth is when they are usually shorter on here they are guaranteed tries and win so u end up doing ur dough

agree that what the ayr bookies have done has set a dangerous precedent but from what i believe the racecourse had made the ring so bad that they had very little option and dont think if pick1 doesnt go in then pick 51 wont either,oh and btw they dont pay £750 to then go and give the public a better deal they pay it so they can then bet to 2% a runner to make sure their investment pays off.

maybe roy and maybe not especially on big days,personally wish there were no new areas but there will obviously be more if the racecourses think they can sell them,dont blame anyone for going in them if they are there(wish i had last saturday),but just pointing out bookies aint going in them to give anything away so you could argue the racecourses are just as culpable by seeking a few extra quid in giving the paying public a raw deal.

I bet on the Scottish National at Newbury. 1/4 Odds 1234. Sounds like the only place it was 1/5th 1234 was at Ayr itself!!!

Even at Newbury they all wanted to be on the winner, all rates from 20/1 down :(

1st race at Stratford today I had to go win only, which I dont like to do, especially on a Sunday. Even though there were 7 runners it was 1/7, 8/1, 50/1 bar. I was going to offer 1/4 odds 1-2 and adjust the win odds accordingly but the book next to me went 1/6th odds 1-2 & exploded the prices. What can you do?

WASNOT..WOULD IMAGINE THE FIRST RACE WOULD BE A DISASTER FOR MOST OF THE BOOKS..

RR - 40/1 came in to silence. 16/1 well backed in the ring (£200 EW laid next door to me).

RR - we get on OK with Stratford, but we have some good midlands punters from our dogs days.

We also dont fk them about with 1/6th odds and the like.

roy certain pick numbers yes i.e the high numbers might have the effect of increasing the low numbers even more

how many bookmakers do you think would turn up if it was £1000 per pick to bet at AINTREE on grand national day

I think i see what you are driving at roy.. but surely if less books attend that would increase the value of the picks!

if the bookies start betting at 2% per runner this would give the punters a raw deal which could result in less punters attending the meetings, staying at home and using the exchanges

The same logic doesnt stop them stiffing the caterers who then have to stiff the public with food & drink prices. Difference is that they have an alternative to betting with the bookmakers. They cant ring for a burger.

Big rents good for those in good picks only. Majority of bookmakers go out of business, course worse off overall, punters MUCH worse off.

Which bookies Roy?

If you added up the percentages available in the ring at Ayr on Sat.. or indeed on virtually ANY racecourse on any day the total would be WELL under 100% in the win book. In many place books it would be nearer 90%.

The value for the punter is still very much on course. No commision, premium charge or repetitive strain syndrome. No £23 available at 36.00 when you wat a onner on! And fresh air and banter to booy!

How was Donny ribero1? Gave it a swerve as not getting on very well with it at the moment.

we didnt go either wasnot although i understand tatts was ok,much better than last year,24 in tatts,9 on rails which was useless apparently.

Last year was hopeless rib, hence the swerve this year. I'm going a week on friday for the Racing For Change effort, but going to swerve it on the Saturday again.

cue 40 books in tatts in 2 weeks time in fairness to donny they seem to be trying re the admissions,£13 in tatts yesterday for a decent card,£10 on some friday afternoons,lets hope last night is the sign of things to come.

Must admit that the so called Scottish senior bookies who are trying to create a Scottish association to look after the Scottish books appear to be very shalolow and hypocrytical if you ask me.Only a couple of weeks ago they were downing tools and not attending Ayr racecourse due to the ring shifting towards the hospitality and new areas.These afore mentioned bookies were the first to pay the premier charge by the parade ring!!In some cases occupying two pitches??!Nice one lads!The word fickle and two faced comes to mind.Not only do they want to stop so called south of the border bookies venturing north,they also want to enlighten all other race courses that they can charge want they want on big race days and get the price they want.Nice one lads you cant beat sticking together!

One fun idea they had was kids races on the track. Under 10s and over 10s. Really fun, except the sprint was too far for the under 10s & the winner of the over 10s would have given Linford Christie a race :^0

we are not poorly led at all,kj and others are working incredibly hard for us all,they have absolutely no power to stop bookmakers acting independantly,sa i often agree with your comments although most are critical of bookies,dont know who you are but you are way off mark here imo.

It's certainly true to say it's often difficult to lead such a selfish group, but said leader and others who set themselves up as leaders, should be more vocal else they are so many sheep. we lack the strength at the top

I do 1/5 odds in 16-22 runner h'caps & I do bigger odds than those who offer 1/4. I get zero complaints from my customers and my turnover is increasing. The only ones who bleat are the stay at home "punters" one here.

I also have zero complaints about kj. If you knew the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes by kj, bj & rg you would get a shock. There are not many in this game you could trust with bookmakers livelihoods. I trust kj.

regarding ayr on saturday plenty of books bet 1st 4 1/4 on the national ,yet as ever this forum is lead to believe otherwise.

I have found KJ to be the fairest man in the job i have seen.It is probably a labour of love but the main thing i have noticed with him is that he has all bookies interest at heart,opposed to certain so called committee members looking after there own a*rse.As a bookie with average numbers there is nothing worse in my view,with people who are supposed to be looking after the majority do things for there own ends meet.In my view KJ sees the overall picture and is endevouring to look after all bookies objectives.

we agree to disagree lads, especially as it's apparent you offer a fifth on large field handicaps and the complaints of punters about the same hold little merit to you. Personally I see little future in blundering on with terms the public dislike- regardless of the argument that they are better off on the win book(and my win odds are no worse at a 1/4 than those betting to a 1/5). At the end of the day-only the bookies know how betfair prices a race up- and it's those same bookies hell**on taking every penny available to convey it on here that are the problem. I'll sign up to the initiative from RFC and we'll see how you match up then!
