Time Charter with Steve Cauthen up,

got 100/30 instead of 7/4 cos I didn't know anything about taking a price,

got really worried cos the jockey on mine didn't seem to be moving at all compared to the other jocks,

but years later found that to be a good thing !

Yes, years later I found out that there was a rumour about Henry Candy's stable having the virus and the horse drifted from 6/4f out to 7/2 etc,

but Time Charter was apparently stabled away and the rest is history :)

London Cry would be my first winning bet in the 1957 Cambridgeshire ridden by Scobie Breasley.
1/- each way at 20/1. My father always said low draw at Newmarket so as this was drawn 1 that was my selection. Simple game I thought age 10.

Mine was on some Lester Piggott runner in the 80's, was only in the bookies because a mate was placing a football coupon bet and Piggott was the only jockey I'd heard of.

Won at 4/1 and I thought racing was the easiest way ever to make money, spent the next 20 years finding out it wasn't :)

Funny story about a mate of mine who came to stay at ours one weekend and had his 1st bet - he'd never bet in his life so I fired up BF and showed him the next race and how it worked. He picked one out by name right out the bottom at 60s I think so I put on £2 quid for him. He had to leave before the off and as he's driving off I watch the numbers tick over on here and it wins! Not finished there though. Rang him straight off to tell him how unbelievable it was but he didn't get it really. Persuaded him over the phone to pick a number between 1 and 20ish for the next. He randomly picks another massive outsider and you guessed it - romped home! True luck story - wish I'd put more than £2 on though!

Thought it was so-oo easy.... :)

Dad always used to put a £1 bet on for each of us on the national.

One year my horse didn't start so we put my £1 on an 8-leg acca in Coral. Won £350
