They are an absolute shower anyway the sooner they go the better, will at least save me £20 a month. Yeah great attitude, i hope ATR go bust too so we can have fantastic coverage from C4 and BBC2 every day! |

''They are an absolute shower anyway the sooner they go the better, will at least save me £20 a month''
if you feel like that, wee eck, take control of your life and cancel subscription instead of waiting for someone else to save you £20 a month. simple. |

they are charging far too much money.
I refuse to pay it and i watch racing from home everyday. Granted im tighter than a nun's but if i dont think its value for money i really dont know who does |
By:
cj - good post !
By:
Yes, would be great stood around in the bookies to watch racing. No more replays.
unbelievable that some people want them to fold. Racing Post article stated 40,000 subscribers. That don't sound too shabby to me. |
By:
geton 09 Apr 09:36 Granted im tighter than a nun's but if i dont think its value for money i really dont know who does I think it is outstanding value, compared to the £21 I pay to watch attheraces. |
By:
It was only £10 a month when part of Setanta, and you got the equivalent of ESPN with it. You now get less for more money, I think that's what is the grating issue with many people.
By:
Clearly Setanta were not charging anything like enough per month. That's why they went bust.
By:
almost too obvious that Muqbil but clearly not obvious enough for some
By:
if you didnt pay for it...be on atr free.....as it use to be........same as espn football......they all see you coming.
By:
how are u paying 21 for ATR?
u mean your paying 21 for ATR and every other free channel on sky? |
By:
'u mean your paying 21 for ATR and every other free channel on sky?'
Yeah, none of which i ever watch. |
By:
geton, I couldn't give a rats ass about 300 chanells of sh1t that I get free. Other than for racing, I could do without sky, period. I am forced to pay £21 to get atr, to watch racing I have no choice.
By:
RUK are overcharging. If it was half that I'd pay up but why should I pay the £10 supposedly for their website when I can get better elsewhere and don't want it. I can watch a lot of their racing on terrestrial or other sources.
By:
RUK obviously hooked a few mugs with their "Ruby treble at Cheltenham" offer.
They now have a year's subscription from each of them. All their adverts are for bookies (ATR free because of adverts) and bookies probably not happy that folk could watch RUK on Betfair instead of having to bet with them to watch it for "free". The bookies put the Sporting Life out of business by withdrawing their advertising and their mouthpieces like RUK and the Racing Post are well aware of how much they depend on bookies advertising to keep going. After all if RUK didn't have all that bookie advertising revenue, they would probably need to charge about £20 per month for their service. Oh wait . . . . |
By:
RUK reportedly say that they have more subscribers now than when they originally launched. The worldwide global recession has had no effect on them at all. As Fabricus said its only the cost of a nice bottle of wine anyway.
If £20 a month is a problem then you shouldnt be betting anyway. As for the skint merchants who have to watch on here I can hardly bring myself to denigrate them. If you cant afford something then get a better paid job. It aint rocket science ;) |

Correction Fat Al and Ramsdens lawyers did for the Sporting Lives

Great Whyte
IDIOT |
By:
I dont think so. RUK is clearly aimed at the punter who dont need to concern himself about a p0xy score. As Muqbil sed its a quality service and you have 2 pay for it.
By:
I realise that Duncan, but thank you for your condescending post nonetheless.

Clearly Setanta were not charging anything like enough per month. That's why they went bust. Setanta were doing fine until they overpaid for sh1tty premier league football. Plenty of people on here were delighted to see them go bust, just as some will be pleased to see RUK go. They'll basically be happy when all we have to see on telly is football and the boat race. |
By:
if they had racing every day...then ok .....but they often have blank days.........no irish either.
By:
Do you think that Chapman does any rehearsing for his stint in the booth. ANSWER NO
Well the likes of yifter and Lord Snooty probably do a day's work on their lines and it shows. All that off the cuff witty stuff dont just happen;) I remind you TIME=MONEY |
By:
Sad to hear about RUK
By:
RUK people's IR channel and one in the eye for the monopoly merchants, keep going lads ;)
Betfair need to properly team up with them and aquire the 30 courses' rights issues just like the bookies own the s hit courses and Ascot fook it lets have an all out bookie bashing war...man the guns :p |
By:
Racing UK have clearly overvalued their product. £20 per month for half of the coverage is clearly too much for the casual racing fan. Can you imagine Sky having the cheek to charge £20 a month for their sports package and then telling you that half the week you wont be able to watch half the premiership games because they are on another channel. I think it goes to show how out of touch the racing industry and in particular RUK are.
By:
I would imagine one of the big problems they're going to encounter is that everybody who wants to pay to watch racing has already done so. It's not like there's a wide uncaptured market of people who want to pay to watch horses race against each other.
It's hard to imagine any non-gambler suddenly gaining a huge interest in the sport. I used to watch occasionally when it was free (with something else I had, probably NASN) but £20 is ludicrous |

the farmer
they do its on espn |
By:
also we (our choice) have to pay extra 15 nicker at times for extra boxing shows,if i am not going to that show i am more than willing to pay it(even for amir khan)
By:
From next season ESPN will be showing something like 20 games a season, ans even then they will be rthe dross sky doesnt want. Hardly the same thing now is it!

The many posters on here who said RUK wouldn't last 6 months went it first appeared on our screens, and then went through the same sorry arguments when they went as a stand alone channel, are now left with two options. 1) Say "oops I was completely wrong there", or 2) say "I meant six months from now" every six months. Perhaps unsurprisingly most have chosen the latter. It reminds me of betting with people at school who lose and then say "double or quits" until you reach a point where they owe you several million pounds and you end up saying "tell you what, don't worry about it".
By:
The users of RUK must fall into 2 camps, the ones who just watch the race irrespective of how far behind live it is and those that want to bet IR.
For the former there are plenty of ways and means to see these pics and the latter...good grief if ATR offered a 20 quid subs service to speed up their picks think of how many sis etc subs would stop |
By:
the point of this thread was about betfair showing streaming ?.i agree with most about £20 fall if your a gambler .but if your on your laptop pc at work why change the goalposts....

when Setanta first bid on Scottish football, both Celtic and Rangers voted to refuse the deal on the grounds that Setanta didn't have any money and they were only scraping by from month to month.
The Old Firm were outvoted by the rest of the Scottish teams and had to accept the deal. There were football fans up there who had paid for Setanta because Setanta had told them it was not going to be available in pubs and clubs, but once they had their residential take up, Setanta set about selling their wares to pubs and clubs. The company probably knew that they were going to lose a lot of their residential business the following year so they had to look for other avenues of income. Setanta then targetted the much larger English market and bid money that it didn't have for EPL matches and then bid millions more for England international matches. They were probably hoping that a massive monthly uptake in subscribers in England would help finance their costs. Unfortunately there was much less uptake than they had expected with the result that they couldn't meet their regular payments to either the Scottish or the English leagues and subsequently went bust. The point of this novel is to show that it was the overpriced football that bust Setanta and it had nothing to do with them offering the bookie subsidised RUK for a reasonable price. (if the bookies had any sense they would realise that a free RUK would be watched by lots more people and folk who watch racing tend to bet on racing) |

Whilst it is on I will pay but if it went skint I would not give a Monkeys, compared to other pay per view channels imo they are very poor value. I will add one other comment come next Noivember I will cancel my subscriptrion unti April, what they put on whilst there is no horseracing imv is total dross.
