I loved Gifford also but I still could see that having been backed fom 50/ 1 to 15/2 he had already lost when the leaders jumped the 23rd fence. If we take Foinavon out of the race Honey End would have been the luckiest winner in racings history. and that don't make sence.

tbh, such mayhem in the race couldn't be certain what would have transpired - I can remember yelling at the telly for fence after fence as it crept inexorably closer until, nearly hoarse, my mum was wondering just how much had I had on it and why wasn't I giving het more "keep" !

the unlucky horse i believe was red alligator ,who went on to win the national next year...he suffered more interfference than H N ,twice being seriously obstructed in that race whilst H N got away relatively lightly....red al finished third and then won a year later....i believe this poor old boy ended his life in the slaughter house??

However when I tried his coat on when a lad of 12, Ii saw he must have been only 4ft 6 inch,
