I'm looking forward to seeing Treanmor in The Chesham. He'd be the pointer for next season. Another Pinatubo or Coroebus. I did not know Coroebus suffered a fatal injury in The Moulin at Longchamp in the same season. RIP Coroebus!

If I get 1 from 35 this week, I'll be happy.
2.30 Carl Spackler .. I've been with Dancing Gemini all Spring but feel there is no outstanding miler here, and I like his jockey. 3.05 Military Code .. gave 11 lbs to Fitzella - took some doing. Maybe not the best form but he has the experience. 3.40 Mgheera - improved out of recognition being switched to Ed Walker.. a filly on a roll.. 4.20 Field of Gold - I can't see past him. Ruling Court trained for 12f. 5.00 East India Dock. Gone up in the weights and not sure he'll like the going but I'll stick with him. He's proved he stays well. 5.35 Haunted Dream - I've followed this horse off a cliff. I first saw him as a 2yo on Warren Hill, I picked him out then before he ever ran. I asked the work rider his name, he mumbled something, I had to look it up. Loved his white blaze on a grey face. Never thought he would reach this level. I used to ask Ed Dunlop about him when I saw him up there. He told me he was running at Ascot [Duke of Edinburgh], but was down the field. Improved leaps and bounds as he's got older with new connections. 2nd last year.. Heart not head choice. 6.10 French Master, they think a lot of this one. I think he's a group horse in a h'cap. |

Lays of the Day: 1620 Ascot Henri Matisse Likely to attract the money if O’Brien waxes lyrical during the day. Was able to have the French Guineas dictated for him in a large field. Has 2 potential pacemakers/troublemakers in the field but with only 7 runners their effectiveness is questionable. I’m of the view that this is another step up from the quality of opposition that he has faced. Ruling Court and Field of Gold both have stronger credentials for me, and it would be no surprise to see them fight out a finish similar to the Guineas. No stats here I simply don’t see it being as good as the other two. 12/12 OR 109+ 12/12 had won over at least 1m 12/12 Won 1 of last 2 starts 12/12 Won at least once in current season 12/12 3-8 previous career starts |

6.10 French Master, they think a lot of this one. I think he's a group horse in a h'cap. JOHN (& Thady) GOSDEN have some solid stats in staying races at Royal Ascot... J&T Gosden | Royal Ascot 1m6f+ | Won or placed 1 of last 2 | 2+ career wins = 7/20 | 35% | +£56.05 – W&P 11/20 | 55% S/R... FRENCH MASTER qualifies on that angle... JOHN (& Thady) GOSDEN have some strong stats at Royal Ascot with their LTO winners... J&T Gosden | Royal Ascot 1m-2m4f | 4yo -5yo | 3+ career wins | WON LTO = 13/30 | 43% S/R | +£65.37 – W&P 20/30 | 67% S/R... FRENCH MASTER qualifies on that angle... FRANKEL OFFSPRING wearing 1st time Blinkers hold strong stats... Frankel 3yo4yo colts & geldings | 1st time Blinks | C2 or less = 13/40 | 33% S/R | +£55.82 – W&P 18/40 | 45% S/R... FRENCH MASTER qualifies on that angle... My play(s)... FRENCH MASTER (J&T Gosden) as well as the positives stats he meets with above he also catches my eye on the following... J&T Gosden | Frankel offspring over 1m4.5f-1m6f | C2 level or less = 15/31 | 48% S/R | +£56.11 – W&P 24/31 | 77% S/R (E/W = +£64.29)... and I’ll play him as my one dart in this... Above stats are from NARROWINGTHEFIELD.CO.UK |

Thanks for the info Lucky can’t see how Henri falls on those stats. On RPR’s he has a lot to find sure. I’ve said elsewhere I’ve a worry about the stiff mile for him. He is all speed, broke the track record at Longchamp.
The trainer of Docklands (Eustace) just said that the ground is running quicker than last year so might pull his filly out of a later race. Half a length between FOG and Henri at Longchamp in the Lagadere, (ground which Rashabar also disliked). So not sure how you come to this conclusion? Luckyme , “I’m of the view that this is another step up from the quality of opposition that he has faced.” It’s not as if they’ve never met! Don’t like the prep either for Ruling Court and we are all guessing as to what his trip is. He was ripe for the Guineas. Odds on isn’t for me neither is layin horses but fair play for giving your opinion. I respect everyone who goes in with one. Come the SJP it’ll be baked ground, I’ll be listening to Gosden see if he mentions that. When he says it’s a negative it’s normally a positive! ![]() |

Don’t be modest Smoky you’re a good judge and it seems many here have had close links to racing, which I’ve not.
Closest I came to a throughbred was when I worked on the Show Larkrise to Candleford. It was filmed on Lord Fullers property where he had horses, Silver Patriarch was there ![]() He bet that me Four cans of London Pride that I’d not get the hotel frontage painted in a day, I did and was never paid out! Knock knock! |
By:
lol.. he owes you. I think I remember that Lark Rise to Candleford.. long time ago.
.. I notice Tricky Tel is an absentee in the Coventry.. they were really hopeful for that one too. |
By:
Haha yes! Four cans!
Was a great little show to work on for the beeb. Was like the town that Clint Eastwood built in High Plains Drifter where he paints the town red with lots of fake frontage. All placed around existing buildings by the stables there. I’d looked at that one because of the name! Let the action commence… hoping that we’re in for some crackers! |

HPD one of my favourite films..
Well that race could have done with a proper pacemaker.. Carl gave me a good run. I thought Rosallion had just got it. |
By:
Well that was like a duck shoot!! Another turn up with only Rosalion doing the Lockinge any favours. why they made the running with Quddwah who’s normally held up I’ll never know (yes he made his own running in France last time but that was understandable) but that formline with Maljoom behind him and Docklands then behind Romantic Warrior and Soul Rush looks good.

First ride at Ascot for the jockey! Made some of ours look ****!
![]() I’ll be calling Lord Fuller for my four pack now! ![]() ![]() Why are they all so scared to commit, preferring to sit and suffer? |
By:
Yeah,, bit ridiculous..
Well if that was Appleby's best 2yo, he hasn't got much.. seemed like he didn't stay as well. Gstaad reminds me of Chief Singer from years ago. |
By:
Cracking pick Do or Do Not and good run from Andab too.
By:
Treanmor in The Chesham on saturday could be the best from Appleby.
By:
A disappointing Coventry overall, so many promising types didn't get a look in.
By:
We're doing great so far..
That looked more like a gr. 2 than 1.. hope we see a champion in the next. |
By:
..we did.. !

Knew my goose was cooked when no money came for the Artist. Moore looked like he was going to the gallows too when he took a deep puff in the stalls!
![]() |
By:
Excited at the start of the day but the coverage has been terrible and races a disappointment.
ITV missed the start for the Kings Stand! ![]() |
By:
Ruling Court doubt that the ground had anything to do with it missing the Derby.
You’d think Toady could smile for the photo! What price for the Eclipse? |
By:
A top performance from Field Of Gold.
Looks like an above average three year old. Cracking race in the opener. Great start to the week. |
By:
No interview with Mr Gosden post the emphatic win of Field Of Gold was pathetic from ITV. But, I think his next destination is the Sussex Stakes given the support in the market; he's 8 here for The Eclipse. If he's up in trip then most likely will be The Juddmonte Int as it's sponsored by his owner.
By:
Gosden said that connection wanted to step him up to 10f, but he wanted to run here first.
I doubt there has been much support for him for the Sussex, just the bookies slashing his odds. |
By:
Thanks for your opinion on future targets Impossible I can’t see the older milers having to lump weight against him at Goodwood.
By:
Still he beat a non stayer and a pile of crap in behind so I’ll not call it a champion just yet! As for the rider well it was point and shoot nothing great by Keane. Let’s not get overboard until he adds to his CV internationally.
Backing odds on as I said before the race isn’t my thing, never has been so onto the next and it’s two seconds for the day on my ew acca. No big money lost - sorry to disappoint anyone who’d hoped my conkers were done on Henri! ![]() |
By:
Rosallion (9/2) and Field Of Gold (5/2) another double that went awry. So close, That's horseracing for you.
By:
Unlucky impossible why didn’t you do them in singles and double up ew on top?
By:
Haunted Dream had a potentially winning run there.. I'm not Barzalona's biggest fan, maybe not his fault..
By:
'Delashay', I cannot remember the last time I did an e/w double; I consider e/w as losing double money. I also had Field Of Gold, Opera Ballo culminating with Lake Victoria (Coronation) in a treble. Now all in with Fact To file for the X'mas King George.
No more Flat antes - not even Guineases 2026. |
By:
Nice win for French Master there, despite swerving all over the shop.. I'd like to see him step up to 2 miles. Perhaps the Prix Gladiateur at Longchamp in Sept.. gr.3 3100m might be for him..

By:
Seems crazy you wouldn’t add impossible or split the stake.
By:
Anyone tell me how you add a photo here?
By:
And hey Uncle can I tell you a story about the guy in your avatar?
By:
Don’t wanna mess up the thread

By:
2/7 yesterday and I reckon unlucky with the withdrawal of Mgheera and Haunted Dream getting a shocker.
Poor form from ITV missing the start of the sprint.. it was waiting to happen on this channel, too busy with other things.. I don't like going with O'Brien's.. too obvious and I think it spoils the fun, but sometimes it's difficult to get past them.. I've no strong opinions today, and One Look has been a favourite, but I know Appleby is very keen on his.. 2.30 True Love 3.05 Pinhole 3.40 Cinderella's Dream 4.20 Anmaat 5.00 Fox Legacy 5.35 Rainbow's Edge 6.10 Azizam |

Thanks for the selections, I’d be worried about the ground for Amnat great horse that he is. Burrows has always mentioned running him with give.
It looks a great race and I liked the way Ombudsman fought in the Prince Du Orange when he beat Map Of Stars. Who I find folds when in a fight. |

Here’s the story of Coogan, I was working on a show for ITV at a disused army base near Chertsey. It was used lots by film companies as it was cheap but wasn’t soundproof.
I got my mate some work and on the next hanger Steve Coogan was filming who my friend thought was the best! Until he saw him sitting there nonchalantly asking the runner to come light his cigarette! After days of seeing him do this, one time he walked over when we were on a break and he asked my friend for a cigarette! He had just opened a new pack and such was his dislike of his pre Madonna attitude he said no! Coogan looked shocked and walked away tail between his legs as my friend lit up!! |
By:
Lucky any lays of the day for today?
By:
Yeah, the ground might be against Anmaat and he's getting on a bit..
Interesting about Coogan, I wouldn't have thought that.. I have a relative who works in film industry, so he's told me a few stories, similar.. best of luck today.. an impossible card. |
By:
Thanks Smoky you too. I love Amnat and only the ground worries me. It should be a great race.
Yes it was an interesting time and my family go ways back in the industry, worked with the likes of John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Jack Nicholson would get my dad to put his bets on for him! Only played two races - the fillies race before and the POW. |
