Only a week away now and despite a few high profile withdrawals recently (Kyprios, Economics, Lake Victoria, Albert Einstein) there are still plenty of good races to look forward too.

As ever the going will be critical and the forecast looks set fair with bright sunny and very warm weather so fast ground looks certain unless the CoC intervenes too much.

Arguably the highlight of the week is the opening Queen Anne and while I would love to find one at a juicy price I really see it as a match between Rosallion and Notable Speech even though they were only 3rd and 4 th in the Lockinge. The former is preferred given his excellent Ascot record.

I’ll wait and see what runs and the draw before trying to repeat last years big price Coventry winner.

The King Charles is a repeat of last years running with only a couple of new players. Night Raider ran his first decent turf race at York and could be hard to catch but Asfoora was impressive last year so she will do for me.

The SJP is another cracker, especially now that Ruling Court is rerouted from Epsom. Still find it hard to get away from Field Of Gold.

The Prince Of Wales looks like cutting up, White Birch got to be doubtful on the ground, and so it looks like the first two from the Tattersalls Gold Cup will dominate the market. Los Angeles is hard to crab but he just doesn’t excite me (Giants Causeway mk2) and I wonder if Anmaat might bounce. I’ll see what else is running and see if there is a bet on the day.

With Kyprios retired Coolmore rely on Illinois but while 2m might be fine for him the extra half mile makes me prefer last years placed horses with slight preference at the odds for Sweet William.

The Commonwealth Cup looks difficult but I thought Time For Sandals looked a decent e/w bet at 33/1. I’d also back Ides Of March to small money if he runs.

In the Coronation I am hoping Zarigana will love the stiff track and fast going and win impressively, only the jockey can get it beat imo - 6/4 looks ok.

The QE Sprint is far from a vintage renewal but Inisherin has everything in his favour, unless he gets undone by the draw, whilst I would worry about really fast ground for the French favourite.

I’ll only look at the handicaps and two year old races once the final decs and draw are known.

His OR is one above what Vazirabad’s was when second at 9/2. He however had done the distance in the Cadran a couple of times wining and losing by a head.
Report Delashay June 19, 2025 2:12 PM BST
]Vazirabad was also a well travelled fully mature 6 year, had been to Dubai twice before taking in the Ascot challenge.

We have another race where there’s joint second favs, disgusting how the keep lumping multiple runners together and offering under odds at the top of the market. Like they did also in the POW yesterday.

Oh and the ride that Soumi gave was the most bizarre ride I’ve seen him give. Taking the horse who hated being crowed between horses when making his challenge.

As I type I see Princess Zara is there in the procession….

I've been waiting for the reappearance of High Stock since I rated him a decent figure at Chester. I didn't expect him to be aimed here, but even though some of these have been aimed even higher before I still have him running faster than any of them. You never know how such an inexperienced horse will be after being pressed to run so fast on only his second start, but he's had a 6 week break so hopefully he can replicate that last run and I've backed him.

Zarigana is friendless at 3.55 from 2.54 in the Coronation Stakes tomorrow. In contrast loads of support for Falakeyah into 3.75. The French horses have been disappointing so far. The fast ground for their lacklustre performances perhaps.

Delashay, yes the writing was on the wall with the big exchange drift. The Balding yard is very much one where there's a big difference between those whose prices travel north vs those going south, the final race being another example.

Impossible Map Of Stars was their biggest hope so far, there’s 3 to take on their filly in the Coronation tomoz and I see January has come in from 16/1, had form 1L and bit from Don with Desert Flower and she’s been saved for this, Moore has jumped off exactly who was beaten the French Guineas.

The horse in the Ribblesdale (Life Is Beautiful) didn’t do much for the Burrows fillies form earlier. Might have found that too far reading the notes.
Was also Bethan by Kon Tiki the other Supp for the race.

Another poor day for me yesterday with just a few  stakes savers coming in and my biggest bet of the meeting Akkadian Thunder at 22/1 finding loads of trouble (which to be fair was always on the cards given his run style) before storming home in the last at 7/1  - close but no cigar.

Today I need Shadow Of Light to win really though I have also had a decent e/w bet on Ides Of March and a tiny bet at three figures on Time For Sandals due to the draw in 1.

The Albany will probably be another Coolmore benefit but Gold Digger's race at Yarmouth has worked out well and som I have backed her at 12/1 and Awaken, (who was second that day) at 100 on here.

Mount Atlas is the main bet at 10/1 in the Duke of Edinburgh with a saver on Siege Of Troy at 30

Zarigana is my biggest stake of the week - got a tiny bit on antepost at 6/1, and a decent bet on at 6/4Cry and I've gone in again at just over 5/2.

In the Sandringham I somehow managed to back Miss Nightfall at 20.12 on here yesterday so hopefully the gamble on her (now 4.5) comes in. A saver on Alfareqa.

A token bet on Nightwalker in the King Edward at 14/1 and zero interest in the last.

January into as low as 9/2 when was 16/1 when first chalked up - steamer!
The comments from AOB backed up my thoughts that she’d been saved for this, he also mentioned the formline of the fillies mile.
Could she challenge for favouritism today?
Total difference in confidence between her and Illinois yesterday - Mattisse too.

Hadn’t noticed that Sky Majesty was a filly not a colt until I read Haggas is concerned about fast ground for her!
Still she was overpriced in relation to Babouche on the form lines mentioned.

Confidence seems big from Appleby regarding Shadow Uncle and he’ll be desperate to get one on the board now that the other Godolphin trainers have with very little ammo to play with.

I found this regarding the Shadwell filly in the Coronation:

"I can only repeat what his jockey told me (Ed, Jim Crowley)," continues Angus Gold. Throughout the whole spring, he told me that yes, she looks like a 2,000-meter filly, but she has a lot of speed. He is convinced that he would have been in the final fight of the 1,000 Guineas, if she had run. And one must listen to his jockey. However, I am not going to say that she is definitely a 1,600-meter filly. As for her lack of experience, what we tend to forget is that at this time of the year, we are still getting to know the filly. She doesn’t have as much experience as the others, certainly, but we know that in terms of pure talent, she is a filly of very high class. What exactly is her ideal distance, only the future will tell, but she presents herself with good luck.”

The horse he beat at Lingfield of Hannon’s - Nighttime Dancer was one who made ground in the Derby interestingly and Stay True is still in line for a crack at the Irish Derby I believe. (Been around 7/1 for that for ages)
Smith said that both hit the line strong at Lingfield and that Stay True would deserve a crack at a Derby, who of the pair Moore said he’d ride next time of the Lingfield pair.

I had planned on laying Zarigana, but looking at this desperate opposition I'll have to bottle it. I have Zarigana 7lbs lower than last year's winner Porta Fortuna, who was just an average winner of the race herself. That said, the only opponents who come close to the fav are Simmering on her Moyglare and Deauville runs, but she has gone back since last year. The other is Duty First on her Fred Darling win, but that appears to be a one off and she hasn't proved she truly stays this extra furlong. The only one who seems to have obvious potential for more is Falakeyah, but my time figure for that race puts her about 8lbs behind the fav so she really does need to improve. It's possible that Falakeyah didn't truly stay the 10f last time and would be a lot better at this mile, but that can only be a guess.

Hopefully something does take a big step forward, maybe even the fav, as on paper this is the worst Coronation Stakes I can remember.

Watch (on itv) Egan stops to have the strap tightened and Rossa comes by on the other one. Looks at him and Egan visibly shakes his head, then is vocal. I’d love to know Harvey what he was saying. Ryan looked concerned.

Play it back the work rider said he expected a big run from Arizona Blaze this morn.

Ryan rode his in my view like a scolded cat after having missed the break to try and mess up the chances of anything that stayed far side by going too fast!
Instead the strong pace helped Time For Sandals Laugh

The moral winner must the Aga filly who must have covered (guess the distance) extra ground by leaving that group with the winner and ending up closest to the stands rail of all.

Romans built straight roads for reason Mikel! (Head in hands) Plain

Question - was the strap tightened to keep all the others loaded that much little bit longer and waiting for the fancied Arizona Blaze?

I expect you all to laugh but it’s there for those who look back.

After yesterday's reversal of the draw bias from Thursday who knows what today will bring.

In the Chesham I couldn't touch a Charlie Appleby horse at the moment and the two Irish raiders don't look like superstars so with the weather being so hot I've gone for Humidity  at 6.2

Rebels Romance is a horse you can set your watch by and has loads of firm ground form. Even the Appleby factor may not stop him winning but as I said above I have to look for an alternative.
Can't have Al Riffa on the ground and Ghostwriter has big stamina doubts.
I've had a small bet on good old Al Aasy at 14 who should have things run to suit and a saver on Tabletalk at 40

In the QEII I have antepost bets on Lazzaat at 12/1 (laid off stake at 4/1) and Innisherin at 10/1.
I've added a tiny bet on Great Generation at 38. I do fear the Japanese horse greatly.

The Jersey looks a very poor renewal. I'd be happy to see Remmooz win impressively as he is the one who maybe could be top class but he's short enough.
I will throw a dart at Yah Mo Be There at 25

The Wokingham, like a few other handicaps this week, has a strong long time antepost favorite in the shape of More Thunder who has looked good at Newmarket and should be well suited to Ascot. He could win easily, like the other hot favorites did, but he his short enough so I'll just stakes save on him.
The one I really like is Jarraff, not exactly original being second favorite, but he has surely been plotted up for this having shown a love of Ascot last year, and at twice the price I have backed him at 9.2 with a saver on Completely Random at 38 who won well at Leicester two starts ago in the race where Akkadian Thunder caught my eye and he franked the form on Thursday.

Well done to the owners, trainers, backers of the Gp1 sprints this week, but it has to be said the quality was terrible. In the Jubilee Stakes I haven't seen a proper Gp1 winner since Blue Point. Even he was well below his best in victory, so I haven't seen a true Gp1 winning performance since Lethal Force.

Inisherin did me a big favour here last year but he didn't look like he'd progressed on his latest win. People who know more about these things than me have for some years been saying that the Japanese have some of the fastest horses around, but I'm yet to be convinced, maybe I will be today. I can see the case for Topgear as he ran a good figure when winning at Newmarket last year. However, it's the other French runner, Lazzat, that interests me.

I thought his win in last year's Prix Maurice de Gheest was ok but not as good as it may have looked. On his latest win I was very impressed. When rating times you need reliable races on the same card, preferably over the same part of the track. Having to rely on some crappy French races for comparison doesn't give me anything like the same confidence as rating a Royal Ascot card, for instance, but on the face of it Lazzat appeared to have showed big improvement.

He has drifted in the market, which often means a horse who hasn't worked great recently, usually meaning you're screwed. In this case, however, I suspect the drift is more about the ground. Nevertheless, despite the description, the times show that the ground couldn't have been any slower than the fast side of good last time. Maybe I'm seeing what I want to see in hoping that Lazzat is the real deal but I'm backing him.

In his favour Figgis which is my negative doubt re: Sajir is that Lazzat has won over 7f. I’d hoped Sajir would go for the Kings Stand. But who am I to Fabre this 6f might stretch him!?
He’d no doubt point out that his sire Make Believe won the Jersey! Before he’d won the French Guineas from New Bay so that drop back a furlong is what I’d hoped Sajir would emulate.

Montielle had ran in the Kings Stand and was beaten only 2 1/2
Lazzat put 11L on her over 6F

Beauvatier was 4th to Kind Of Blue in the champion sprint beaten 1L

Beaten 3 3/4 by Lazzat over 6 1/2 F with him going away

Last time out beaten 61/4 by Topgear with Sajir 2nd giving 2lb

It’s going to be about both Lazzat and TopGear getting those fractions right. If Sajir tries to compete I think he’ll get burnt, Spencer will be tracking from the back.

The others I haven’t looked at! Laugh

Sorry Uncle hadn’t seen you were on too, nice call and good luck with that creative double!

Lazzat really did have the perfect profile for the race and was in tip top shape as seen after the race!

I’m pleased for the trainer as he’s mobile and the drift I think was to do with the other French horses earlier this week and every pundit I saw thought that the ground would be too fast for him!

Great ride from Doyle saving enough and has happy memories of Rebels from the Breedrs Cup win on him.

Good to see Royal Ascot doing so well after the dreadful attendance at the Derby meeting.
Obviously the weather was great help.  Doubt 80% of the crowd had any knowledge of the actual racing but it seems to be the place to be seen for the well off bit like the sporting version of Glastonbury

I looked back at the finishes of all the races at yesterday and while there were plenty of obvious eye catchers they will be over bet next time. The one horse I added to my tracker was Stressfree who was very tenderly handled and will be interesting on slower ground in heritage handicap at Haydock, York or Newbury.

Oisin  Murphy was superb in the handicaps.
