Just got round to watching yesterdays racing, eventful end to the PP. You must have went through the emotions on that one Fab! Both your selections fighting out the finish, CC falls and then the MS stumble! Excellent punting. Great result for the horse/stable.
Mania riding really well, loved the way he pushed PTD out the way turning in, cool at the end after MS stumble - riding so well for a few years now. Good race which should be informative. |

Morning
See you have stuck up GAF .... It was the tongue tie that interested me in last years betfair. No show that day,but has had the wind surgery since, once they can breathe normally, any amount of improvement is possible. Just how long this surgery was being practiced, without being declared, sums up the sport in many ways.No matter how good you are form wise, there are always other factors. In the case of GAF,no hesitation in also pointing out the change in pilot, plenty need to be ridden a certain way, very very few are able to do this. Yesterdays PP would be a good example, the standard was appalling in my opinion.Plenty were out for the run,but they gave the leaders plenty of rope, very similar to last years race. The opposite to what you saw .... RM got boxed-in,in effectively a 4 horse race at that point, then almost tipped up after the last when well clear,on much the best horse. Every single time in race reports it will state what the horse has supposedly done .... yet there is meant to be somebody up top calling the shots.Every time I see the words hanging, made mistakes etc .... the jockey is first port of call, every single time, amazing how the same names keep cropping up. Certain stables have been in decline the last few seasons according to the press, again its just my opinion, when they do get rid of the guessers, the results/performances of the horses can change overnight.Plenty of examples this season already, but its a closed shop for many aspiring young jockeys, that has and always will be the problem in this sport,it most certainly is not about talent. Your doing really well .... keep it up,exactly what this thread is about. |

Yeah Mac, thought I was landing the forecast as well. If Midnight Shadow had went as well, I think I’d have lost it. Watched him do that with PTD, and made a huge difference, he’s definitely somebody I like on my bets.

Aye, I backed GAF lto noc, he won it well. He's got some weight in this but it's a compressed handicap; some luck in running always needed for this.
Interesting thoughts on the jockeys. There are plenty average ones about I agree, but I think there's some good ones also. For some reason the top stables don't have them as their No 1's. I think Sean Bowen is as good as any, his brothers getting there. Hughes, Mania both in their prime riding well. We have been spoilt a little in recent decades. |

I have that "Humpty Dumpty" feeling budd....your setting me up you rascal
![]() OK ...no smoke without fire, without the usual pocket talking I see daily, what am I saying ? NJH sends many of his to Henrietta for schooling, begs another few questions that one. There is a schooling video on line of her at work, she remains a joy to listen too regarding horses. One off the cuff sentence she makes sent a cold shiver down the spine ..... "Terry always maintained horses do not make mistakes, only when you add a jockey does this happen regularly." Eureka moment and all that, first time I,d ever heard anyone say what I had been thinking for many years on the subject of riding horses. Chelt 2021 .... we are all pointing to the handicap system, the trainers, majic carrots and all that, again is there something we are missing out on ? As for the 3 mentioned, they are +5,+3 and the other one you can work out for yourself, over fences that is. To clarify, the + means adding 5lb/3lb to a horses mark,in my world. Subjective ... that depends on your stance,if you think they make no difference, thats fine too. I never judge jockeys on horses I have backed,it will always be over a number of rides,at different tracks. I might send you over yesterdays revised PP handicap ..... Take it easy. |

Strangely enough, I have actually visited Hen Knights yard, years ago now, about a couple of years after Best Mate died. Loved that horse. We saw some horses being schooled in her field and in the loose school. She had a double decker bus, and you watched them on the gallops from the top floor, great it was. Her books are very enlightening, I remember that quote. Apparently, Gordon Elliot has copied her loose schooling completely, they measured it, and his is identical.
Your absolutely right though, jockeys can be detrimental to a horses chance, no doubt about it. Saying that, I'll always select the horse first then take a look at the jockey. There's times when that should put me off, but I'm bad for ignoring it. |

WP Sint .....£40 matched at 120 IR on the Captain, ouch for some. Something for everyone at Haydock, tough looking handicaps and the grade 1 has a few contenders. Plenty of decent northern horses on show, including that young stayer of Sandy,s Gi,plenty of potential that horse on the limited times we have seen him, interested how he gets on later. |
