That's won with any amount in hand.

Will they ran him back quick?

Will he get in, even with a penalty?

33/1 I'm tempted to pay to find out.....

Good luck mate - hope he gets in if the plan is to run. Must admit I have never thought of WPM as the sort of trainer to run a handicapper twice in a week. And that race was on desperate ground too. I thought he was their County Hurdle horse to be honest.

Report Can't Catch Me February 8, 2016 8:11 PM GMT
Can't see that being an issue Harry. If they want him to run, he's as good as in already.
Report delsie777 February 8, 2016 8:13 PM GMT
Wasn't the point of running and winning last weekend to get him reassessed and into the County Hurdle? There's also the other matter of the owner also having Modus the plot horse?
Report Can't Catch Me February 8, 2016 8:25 PM GMT
I think it definitely was delsie. But plans can change I suppose. And seeing just how easily he won, and just how well in he is, coupled with just how well he handled the testing ground, they might decide it's worth a go. Massive pot after all, and a race JP likes to target.

Of course there may have been an elaborate plan all season and he's JP number one County Horse. Knowing him, he wil have a few arrows for that race though, and might be happy to give one of them up.

Lots of ifs, buts and maybes, as PN might also tell him Modus is catching pigeons and he expects him to win. But at 33/1, it was well worth the risk imo.

GL but Sternrubin and Zarib e/w for me
Report slowerthanjohn February 8, 2016 9:23 PM GMT
Have to agree with the comments about Blazer being readied for Cheltenham, personally didn't have definite target there as after WM comments thought the Coral Cup or Martin Pipe was a possibility? Unlike WM to run so soon and there was no money ante post till after his victory. Still wouldn't surprise him if he doesn't turn up but GL to everyone who's backed him, if he does run he has to be a major player.
Report SEATHESTARS....NO1 February 9, 2016 9:35 AM GMT
Learned my lesson facts, 95% of my bets are now in shop. When i want to get on one it's usually same price with a few firms so a quick detour and a google search online for the nearest shop does me. I have lost a couple of online accounts now to finding these kinds of prices etc and i fully intend to not lose anymore Crazy The only time i place an online bet now is if it's either day of race and close to off or a Chelters fez bet and even then my stakes are kept to a minimum and spread over the firms that are that price. Also in my experience (it may not be everybodies) festival betting antepost whether it be Cheltenham, Aintree, Royal Ascot tends to go under the radar a lot more than week of race on normal Saturday's.

I will wait until the day now and see who is 5 places and what firms want to 'get it' in the book, i might have a small play then. If it don't get declared on Thurs i will bet it small for the county.

JP MCMANUS'S two leading fancies for the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury were subject to contrasting vibes on Tuesday, with Barry Geraghty suggesting caution over Blazer but Paul Nicholls enthusing over the chances of Modus.

The duo, along with War Sound, are 6-1 co-favourite for Britain's richest handicap hurdle on Saturday, though Blazer is not yet guaranteed a run.

'A far more competitive race'

Geraghty, who rode the Willie Mullins-trained Blazer to win at Leopardstown last Saturday, said in his At The Races blog: "He enjoyed conditions and Blazer won well. It just may not have been that good a race. The form may not be very strong.

"The Betfair Hurdle will obviously be a far more competitive race. If he gets into the race and if he takes his chance, he will be carrying a 5lb penalty in a far more competitive race, so that will obviously be more difficult."

'Well handicapped'

Nicholls, meanwhile, said of Modus: "He was a good bumper horse and we bought him in the summer and sold him to JP.

"He's a much more mature horse and is getting better all the time. We like him a lot and it's good race for a novice in that you might be well handicapped whereas in a year you might not be.

"He's got a lot of ability, but one thing I think is he'll be a lot better on better ground. He can cope with the soft ground. He just lacks a bit of experience, but one thing he does do is jump well."

The champion trainer added: "I think there's a lot of improvement to come from him because he's learning to settle. I'm very happy with him and he's a high-class horse. He's a horse who's going to get two and a half miles in time, but he's not slow. "

Market mover

The main market mover on Tuesday was Richard Johnson's likely mount Sternrubin, who was cut into 10-1 (from 12).

Coral's David Stevens said: "Philip Hobbs is enjoying a great season, and his Sternrubin has been backed to continue his good run this weekend with more big handicap hurdle success."
Report dyno-layer February 9, 2016 6:41 PM GMT
If Blazer actually turns up then it will be dial the distance. So many negatives for plenty of his market rivals. Best just wait now and see if they declare him thursday. If he runs and all is well he will go off around 7-2 ... and win,
Report Can't Catch Me February 10, 2016 10:10 AM GMT
Seems a bit of an odd thing for BJG to say. If the form isnt up to much and they don't think he can compete off his current mark in a fairly weak renewal, he certainly wont be winning a County off his revised mark, surely?!
Report The Headmaster February 10, 2016 10:38 AM GMT
I'm not sure what anyone else read but all I saw was "please don't raise him too much Mr Handicapper, we think we've got a live one here and Cheltenham's looming...."

+15 maybe?

10lbs well in for a 155K H'cap Hdle.

And they're really not going to run???
Report slowerthanjohn February 10, 2016 11:17 AM GMT
Headmaster we both have differing views, I understand he could be 10lbs well in on Saturday in a much more valuable race but it's just very unlike WPM and JP plan to run one so quick. Selfishly I'd prefer him to wait for Cheltenham as I think the break will be beneficial and I've backed Modus. One of us will be rightWink I just can't believe if the Betfair was the plan all along there no money for it prior to Saturdays win?? Whatever the case GL HM and hope he finishes 2nd to ModusLaugh
Report dyno-layer February 10, 2016 11:24 AM GMT
I have a suspicion that IF Blazer runs here then maybe it will be Modus who is saved in the hope for better ground in march as Pumpkin has already sewn the seed of doubt about the dreadful ground not really being ideal for his flat bred horse.
Report slowerthanjohn February 10, 2016 11:31 AM GMT

Report The Headmaster February 10, 2016 11:41 AM GMT
