I disagree Iris, Smad is a better horse this season he has a higher rating than RTR after these past two wins. I'm not saying he will win but he has to go for the GC after that performance yesterday.

Someone seeing their Ryanair voucher not looking so likely now?? Has to be Gold Cup - got to have a fair ew chance if they remain positive with it.

Actually I backed him for both races... but my point is I feel Ryanair is the right race... I expect to win... if he goes for the Gold Cup - one step too far based on KG running.

KG - Hutchinson was sooooo negative under orders from King - not saying he'd have won the KG but he'd have faired much better if ridden more positively. Its no coincidence his lifetime best RPR's are when ridden positively.

If he was mine he would go for Gold as a Ryanair means nothing.
He has sound e/w claims and deserves to be in the field. |

I will be backing Cue Card and Smad nearer the day. To say Vautor when Smad outstayed him is, well i just cant understand the reasoning. Both decent prices and both stay. Both proven on course,Smad the trip, both in form. Will go EW on both nearer the day. GL all

Massive improvement in Hennessy over 3 miles 2 and on Saturday over 3.1 on heavy. Outpaced over 3 miles at Kempton. All the evidence tells me his assets are jumping and stamina. Agree he should be ridden prominently but I don't think he would ever keep up in a Ryanair. He would struggle to keep up with Vautour on the first circuit of the Gold cup if V ran there but might catch him later.

He's a grade 2 horse, that will be a pacemaker in the Gold Cup.
Grade 2 three milers can win the Ryanair not the GC, |

Exactly jasey. Massive place lay in the Gold Cup. Big difference trying to hold off Don Cossack, Don Poli, Djakadam, Vatour, Road to Riches and indeed Cue Card. He'll be swamped turning into the straight when the taps are really turned on. Would look to be a straight forward task for him in the Ryanair. Would grind that opposition into submission but wont do that in a very high quality Gold Cup which it is this year. Crazy decision really. Can't get my head around it. Ok his has improved being ridden from the front but he hasn't turned into a superstar over night either. I'm a big fan of the horse but none of his wins scream gold cup to me. His win at Kempton earlier on in the season showed he has enough pace to cope with a Ryanair.

Also I think Many Clouds threw the towel in when headed again by Smad so the winning distance was exaggerated.

Lord was a grade 1 winner before winning GC but the others are from a different era so i would say going back 20 years is a negative.

Only two of those horses Mr Mulligan and Cool Dawn bounced out and made all which Smad Place will be trying to do. The fav in Mr Mulligan's race was One Man who as we all know with hindsight did not stay 3m2f around Cheltenham against the top horses. Cool Dawn but up a terrific performance. That cant be argued. I just don't think Smad Place can do a Cool Dawn. That's my opinion.

really can't see SP winning anything significant over less than 3 miles. The race he won at Kempton was a non event with Fingal Bay who wants 4 miles in second and the rest were very poor. He has only ever run twice over less than 3 miles over fences and the first time he unseated in his first chase. Even over hurdles he rarely ran over less than 3m. He look a ready made Welsh or Aintree National winner to me.
