All over Night of Thunder at 5/1 for this but my form is dire at the moment.
Not sure about the French runners participation, Ectot & Kara. |
By:
Cheer up sint it's all puffy clouds; they come and they go. But Night of Thunder; he is hard to win with now. I might be wrong.
By:
Possibly. Think he's been unlucky in his last two runs, esp in the QEII
By:
Following unlucky horses is on a road to nowhere mate. Some are more lucky than others; look at Speculative Bid.
By:
Look at Trip To Paris.
By:
He looked an eachway bet to nothing at 4/1 and above. Doubts about the oppo, could be 2/1 on the day.
By:
He is going to bee hammered. What would you lay him at? I wouldn't lay him at 4/1 now.
By:
I'm talking about Moohaarib and not Night of Thunder!
By:
Only time I've backed Night of Thunder was last years Greenham. On the bare form it would appear he came on a lot for that run last season so first time out may be a slight worry. Expect he probably will be the best horse in the race come the off. Come the finish who knows though

This looks the perfect race for Karakontie,I could not oppose if turning up, that must be enough for them too take their chance I should think.

From QIPCO site 2nd April
Alan Cooper, racing manager to Karakontie's owner the Niarchos Family, said: "Karakontie has wintered well and the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes is the race we are looking at. "We will obviously have to see nearer the time but we feel he is a horse who needs good ground so he may well make his reappearance at Newbury. We have also entered a pacemaker, Maximum Velocity. "Karakontie won very well at the Breeders' Cup and there was no fluke about his performance in America. After he won the French 2,000 Guineas, we got him ready for the Prix du Jockey Club but he did not appreciate the extra distance and it took him a long time to get over it. "He was not really sparking and it was not until the second half of September that he really began to flourish again. He got massacred in the Foret but kept improving and in California he was in top form. "The objective after the Lockinge Stakes will be the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Then you have got races like the Sussex Stakes and the Prix Jacques Les Marois - essentially he will be kept to the top mile races." I think he will peak from June, taking on Able Friend and Solow, to August and rested before Breeder’s Cup, although, the Lockinge is worth £350,000 this year and is recognised as a stallion making race. We will know more tomorrow after the confirmation of entry stage. |
By:
I suspect Ectot will be better over 10f this season but he did beat Kara last season. He'll most likely be taken out of the race tomorrow so the race could cut up a bit.
Mooharib needs a good cushion in the ground imo Madhu. Usually the Lockinge is run on pretty quick ground so that would be a worry. |
By:
sintonian, honest Mr Botti ATR interview-Video Features- ‘thought the ground could be a little too fast for him but he handled it well’ He talks about the family and how it improves for age. He was a very late foal (06May) as well.

RP-Trainer Marco Botti said: "Moohaarib came out of Ascot really well and the plan is to run at Newbury.
"I think all of us were under the impression that he needed a bit of give in the ground because of his knee action. We were a little surprised at Ascot because the ground was very fast that day and all the jockeys that have rode him said he wants a bit of cut. "You would have to be impressed with the way he won and he is improving all the time. He has got a pedigree that suggests he will get better with time and he is in great order at the moment. "On his run at Ascot, I would say he will be competitive and, although he needs to step up again, we are looking forward to seeing how he gets on at this level." |

Karakontie out, glad I backed Integral 6/1 last nite and 5/1 this morning e/w. Hopefully will show but this was the plan.
By:
^^horrible bit of work.
Seems to get off on shoving it up punters who may have backed certain horses for certain races, another classic here |
By:
Was letting people know horse was non runner re Racing post this morning, so not to back it.
Whats the problem with that. |
By:
What is the problem here harrycallaghan?
People/storm troopers gate-crashing a forum and being confrontational. Backing horses in the ante-post market is all about licking your lips when supposed fancied opponents don’t turn up. Let’s get real, I thought Karakontie was a false fav based on BCM beating of 4yo Anodin and 6yo Trade Storm; his French Guineas (3rd has improved in Australia as a 4yo) was nothing compared to Night of Thunder’s, and Johnathan Pease’s runners over here do not exactly get you quaking in your boots. As for backing Integral 6/1 and 5/1 ew this morning that’s not exactly shoving it up since she is still 5/1 with PP and Lads. People on here had already doubted Karakontie’s participation- as for the declaration/foot problem- all hype. Minus Lasix ‘super horse’ will get p issed on over here. |
By:
no problem here madhu and will leave it there as you spelt it out anyway in regards integral, he is just a serial offender imo, apologies for posting on this thread though
for the record i didn't fancy the horse, in fact he was helping make the book so wanted him in... i'll get back to the books and promise not to gate crash/storm troop again |
By:
I agree with Harry here. That's a horrible bit of smugness regardless of whether similar odds are available. The thread has been open for several days for Steve to say he's backed Integral.
Anyway..the forecast this weekend is due to be quite wet so I believe...Looking through the field most of them seem to handle soft conditions. |
By:
I only backed Integral when was stated should be running, sorry to offend Harry, was only pointing out Karakontie was a non starter. Not supposed to have an opinion sorry about that, if as madhu stated was gatecrashing ffs! Smug thats a new one was stating my bet thats all. Anyway will move on.

By:
My mistake all round, I see what you mean.
I apologise harrycallaghan, respectfully. Stevo1- I had thought harry had gate-crashed and was being harsh on you. Have to stop socialising in the afternoon before I come on here. Come on boys lets forgive and forget. As for the mare Integral, she is running for a place, Ryan Moore will get to the front with Custom Cut and they will try to dawdle and quicken up 2 out but Frankie on Yuften will have none of it and make a consistent pace up front. I don’t think Integral’s form in the Falmouth and the Sun Chariot against the classic generation is up to that of Red Evie or Russian Rhythm, the last fillies to win it. Even though she has won two Group 1’s, I don’t think she is as good as her mother Echelon who only won one, beating Red Evie. She won’t beat Moohaarib, he only has fitness and James Doyle’s riding of Night of Thunder to beat. In my humble opinion. |

tight betting heat this i have night of thunder top rated...the filly is very much respected although i think she is better on fast ground...i think its tight, will ponder some more and then stare at 13/8 night of thunder on the day and wish i'd played him at 5-1 ante post but was just wary of fast ground for him, looking good now though and this really is a good opportunity for him...
breton rock and the keen running here comes when really want soft but it will be tough for them to step up in group 1 company although i think they are both very solid group 2 horses...arod is annoying me as think he is good but he just refuses to drop the bit...custom cut is better on top of the ground imo but is solid just not sure about him here but he is a big improver its just whether you believe he can step up again anyway will wait till the day now as not much between a lot of them and i want to see the ground and draw, the market looks about right and as much as integral is respected and i was keen to back her, every last drop of rain is against her imo, even though she won a weak group 1 on soft...the race might yet cut up if the rain were to materialise as there is a few that want it on top...interesting race in all fairness and all down to how bad the ground gets as a few will not like it, if it remains good then it becomes tighter race for me betting wise |
By:
5/1 was steep and there was £1000 on here at 9/2 and above and there was 5/1 available at the bookies. And with Hannon's history.Hindsight eh.. But is he one of those unlucky horses? 5/2 now on here £280 or 13/8 on the day. Get in there boy!
By:
like i say am happy to weigh it all up come the day when i know the ground, draw...i'm not a big ante post bettor anymore unless something screams and even then it kills me to part with the cash without knowing the draw...like i say the favorite is solid that isn't to say that is the right bet come the day...we will see
you get in there boy!!! |
By:
No I'm Moohaarib and I'm still cuing up for Lads to except my bet on here for another couple of £££'s. But he is the one to beat.
By:
progressive but got plenty on here madhu...ive been following hors de comabat progress as thinks he is quite progressive but also think he has a level and at present that is listed/group3 level, i also think he doesn't put it all in...mooharib is clearly going the right way but he has to improve a lot in a short space of time to figure here...he maybe a horse for the group 2 at ascot in the summer which the trainers mull of killough was third in.

I really like CUSTOM CUT backed him at @16s yesterday

I have backed Custom Cat as well, really really wet in newbury today, good to firm my arris.
Liking the amount of runners too, G1 should not be left to the elite trainers. |

Newbury Racecourse
@NewburyRacing @Sam_D1234 Hello, as of 4pm today we are Good, Good to Firm in places from Good to Firm, Good in places following 8.5mm of rain. Met Office- Friday: After a chilly start, Friday will be fine, dry and warmer with sunny spells. Cloud will spread in from the west towards evening, giving some light rain in places later. Maximum Temperature 17C. Outlook for Saturday: A breezy weekend with some patchy rain early Saturday followed by some sunshine. Doubt it will be soft on that. Trainer Richard Hannon RP AM 14th May. "In the end we decided against giving Night Of Thunder a racecourse gallop, we worked him at home and he really impressed us." "He should be fit enough to win, although he will improve for the run to a point and we hope that he will keep improving through the season." "He's a Classic winner - he deserves the utmost respect for that - and he would be right up there with all the star milers that we have had over recent years." "Toormore will also improve for the run. He is less of a flashy worker than Night Of Thunder and though he won first time out last season, that was only a Group 3 so this is a much stronger race." "He came back to form on his final run of last season and if he were to repeat that he would go very close on Saturday. I hope that we have got him back to near his best again now." "If the ground were on the soft side it would suit both of them." With Custom Cut (2), Integral (9) and Yuften (18) there will be pace all across the track but looking at drawbias.com - results plotting winning stall number against the number of runners for Newbury One Mile Straight - middle to high will be favoured whatever the ground is. So I am very happy with Moohaarib (12). Good luck. http://www.drawbias.com/courses/Newbury/Newbury8.html |

Harrycallaghan- Arod is annoying me as think he is good but he just refuses to drop the bit...
They might just let him travel here and he may drop the bit? I started to think Arod is out of line 28 on here and 25/1 with the bookies. That is if it is still faster than good come Saturday.I've just taken the 29.12 Av Odds on here. Chapple-Hyam- http://course-specialist.co.uk/blogs/arod-set-to-drop-down-in-trip-for-al-shaqab-lockinge-stakes-at-newbury/: 13 May “Arod is very well. It was a good comeback at Newmarket and obviously a mile is a new thing for him. We don’t really want to see any rain. “We are going to give it a go over a mile on Saturday and see what happens. He raced a bit keenly over further last season and so that is why we are giving it a go. “The Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes is sure to be a tough race and there will be no hiding place. Arod is in the Queen Anne Stakes and the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, so Newbury will give us a pointer as to where we go with him this season.” |

By:
the trouble with this madhu is can the guy training him sort him out and i'm afraid he is hopeless, which is a shame cause the horse just needs taming to progress to the top table
a hopeless task which is proving very expensive tbh |
By:
I agree harry callaghan but the there is a Andrea Atzeni in the equation now and his positioning and handling could make all the difference and 25/1 is big when you look at the move in the Derby and based on his position in Juddmonte, much more was expected by the way he was ridden for a turn of foot he was disappointing. His run first time out might look much better in time/
By:
i don't disagree madhu but the trainer is horrible and when a horse is as keen as him i don't think he would drop the bit over 6 never mind a mile...don't listen to me as have done my doe on the creature... but on the off season the trainer has had every chance to make him a proper horse and he hasn't sorted him out so he will continue to be a cliff horse for me which is a shame because i think he is classy but now refuse to part with the money, also he won't want any cut in the ground imo

I don’t think there will be any cut harry Callaghan. Moreover although he has At Talaq in his bottom line, closer up, he has Lear Fan (10.3f) and he could only squeeze out 9/10f in Far Lane and Singspiel (10.4f) only got 9f out of Dark Islander.
I think with Teofilo (IRE) (10.6f) they were barking up the wrong tree trying to get a mile and a half and rushing him as he was quite a late foal(21Apr). |
