No way is Soft ground guaranteed at HQ.
By:
He's in both the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket and the Challenge Cup at Ascot and I'm leaning towards the latter with him. Will (Buick) got off him and said that a stiff seven furlongs would suit and Ryan (Moore) said the same thing after he rode him recently at Haydock. His owner is keen on trying him at seven furlongs as well so that's probably where he'll go.(H Palmer).
By:
Is the going often soft at Newmarket? I don't know where to check, but I have the idea that it's rarely
deeper than G-S and rarely harder than G-F. |
By:
FWIW (ie not a lot) I know for a fact that Ascription was very much expected yesterday, obvious now, and I only found this out after, so f-all use to me but hey, must have more to give.
By:
ascription will need deep ground and if he gets it is less than certain to stay...the one I like is QUEENSBERRY RULES of haggas's who is currently 25/1 with 365 ew 1'2'3'4'5...if only they hadn't closed my account
.stayed on well at ascot over a mile...then dropped to 7 furlongs ???? then stayed on at york over a mile when murtagh rode...the ground was pretty quick that day...the handicap mark has been nicely protected and the pedigree is crying out for a sterner test that the cambridgeshire will offer....the horses only entry. |
By:
Clon Brulee? Big price, not sure it will run etc but if it does the exchange seems quite a decent odds...Any thoughts?
By:
Hey lay n play.
The day Queensberry Rules lost at Royal Ascot I thought to myself 'Cambridgeshire'. Totally agree about the weird run over 7, looked like it was just for experience to me, Haggas has said he reckons it's got a big one in it. Main concern at the minute is lack of interest. I took 25s ages ago thinking it'd get punted, so far, nothing, but yeah if it turns up with a job jockey on i'd be more than hopeful. |
By:
im on qr too. backed it at York too and thought was a bizarre ride ( esp from murtagh )
By:
Willie Haggas has 7 entries in the race currently so it will be interesting if Queensberry Rules is his only runner.
By:
quite a few at the head of the market have been winning and going up in the weights....the old fox haggas has cleverly avoided penalties whilst keeping the horse ticking over....like this one as much as any 25/1 shot I have ever backed....just hope on the day the race is not too draw biased.
By:
I was very keen on the improving Educate, but that has gone up 4lb for the group 2 run which is a shame. Got a few quid on at decent odds on here in the hope that it would not run at Newbury but haven't topped up at 16s yet.
By:
anyone know if yeager has to win today to get in the field?
By:
I would think so, ash. 48 have tried in the last 11 years with 1 winning.
By:
Yeager is a fecking donk. Needs a labotomy.
By:
Rockalong very eyecatching today
By:
Clive Cox says Haafaguinea likely to run next week if he comes out of his Newbury win well enough.
By:
just starting my analysis, will post a short list when I'm done
By:
bloody loads of entries! I'm only on the 'Q's. Sheesh
By:
Have a shortlist of 5 - Queensbury Rules and Ethedaam heading the list
2 more to sub in if soft ground tho ![]() |
By:
I'm only at the 'eliminate those that cannot win' stage now, that's a long list! Fingers crossed the list of those who can win will be short!
By:
so I dismissed 105 of the initial entry as being incapable of winning this race. Once 5 day decs are in I will then go through those that remain in the race that are not on the initial dismissal list and start eliminating more.
By:
Prince of Johanne, or Sam Sharp for me at the moment, no doubt bet another even if they line up.
By:
Anyone know if Fury is injured? I have heard reports that he has been ruled out for the season but cant seem to find anything online. Think he is worth a punt if the ground is soft.
By:
Jacks Revenge at the prices for me.
By:
Dry and warm weather for the next 7 days so absolutely no chance of Soft - fast side of good I'd say.
By:
Really fancy Short Squeeze for this , anybody got any news about him .
Can see some of those in front of him in the betting coming out if they don,t get much rain even so Short Squeeze looks a horse who is progressing just at the right time for this and will win whatever runs imo. |
By:
^^ from 26th August
An impressive winner at York on Friday, Palmer has been informed that Short Squeeze will be going up 11lb in the handicap tomorrow. Usually a trainer would not greet that sort of a rise with any great relish - but Palmer actually wanted a pound or two more which would in all probability guarantee him a place in the prestigious handicap. Now Palmer is left with the difficult decision over whether to run before the big race to pick up a penalty. "Short Squeeze will go up 11lb, I rang the handicapper asking for 12 but he wouldn't budge," said the Newmarket handler. "It is unusual asking for more, but 11 takes him up to 93 which wouldn't have got him in the Cambridgeshire last year but it would have the year before, so it will be touch and go. "He's a big-framed horse and is going to be better next year, so I won't be asking too much more of him as he's had a few runs already. "He's better with four weeks between his races so I'm loath to run him again to pick up a penalty because if he wins it will probably cost him his chance in the Cambridgeshire as he won't be fresh enough. "The Silver Cambridgeshire is obviously an option, and that has only been won by three-year-olds, so we'll just have to see." Dont think he'll get in myself, will need a lot to come out |
By:
Thanks BJG , obviously this is the race Hugo wants , just needs to make the cut now.
By:
Wouldn't want a very high draw either.
By:
I have finalised my shortlist and out of the confirmed 122 I reckon I have narrowed it down to 8
I have not yet drawn any conclusions and I will be doing the whole process again to make sure I have not messed up and missed some that should be on my list |

By:
was Haafaguinea supplemented? was not in the original entry
By:
He was in original entries
By:
dunno how I missed him then coz he was on neither my dismissal list nor my long short list
hmm? anyway, back on the short list now |
By:
Definitely in it cuz i av em saved d day they came out - wont put em up on here cuz that will lead to all sorts of confusion
![]() |
By:
no I have a spreadsheet of the original entry and he's not on it... hmm confused now and there was this quote on Saturday after he won
"HAAFAGUINEA, was never far off the leaders. He picked up well in the closing stages, won a shade cosily and is a handicapper on the up. The step up in trip brought about significant improvement and there are more races to be won with him. He´s in the Silver Cambridgeshire on Friday" |
By:
Have to b entered in the Camb to get into that - its like the ayr gold/silver cups
Ones that dont get in the Camb get in the silver one etc |
By:
yes must have messed up, anyway he's back in my analysis but I don't think he wants quick going
